David King on Sen just hauled Cornes over the coals for his comments around this incident. Said if it was any other club Cornes would have come down on them like a tonne of bricks (100% true imo). Went hard at him. Well played Kingy.

Turns out the club doctor is a close friend of Cornes. All he had to do was state this upfront and decline to comment on the matter. Nothing wrong with standing by a mate. Nobody expects an objective comment if talking about personal friends so best not to comment at all.

Cornes was absolutely up front about this on his SEN program.

Agree, but Kane was defending the character of the doctor as he has treated his family members in crisis situations. I do not think he was generalizing or making excuses for this person, just defending their character and integrity.

Appreciate your view and for the most part he has been just defending their character and integrity, yes.

I've just heard from him a lot this week on it and SEN on Wed night seemed a little too boys club for me. We're not going to gain much more hearing from ex players on the issue in my opinion.

I wouldn't put it past SEN and the way all those guys work to have had a meeting on Sunday night or Monday morning and Kane's said, well, I have to back my contacts at Port and that's my position, and King's gone, great, you do your spiel on Monday or Tuesday and I'll go you Thursday. And they've probably gone, great, no worries. Kane gets to protect Port and King gets to bring balance to the debate.

It really is that cynical the way some of this stuff plays out and SEN are real bottom feeders...

The irony of this post is that you're the one being cynical. (That's not a criticism, by the way.)

I thought I saw it was a 500K fine which would be appropriate imo but 50K out of a 7 Mil soft cap is negligible

I love the AFL controlled media driving the narrative too...  AFL coming down hard.  me bollocks they are.

Furthermore, that $50k hit is probably most of the doctor's wage. So he moves on and they're back to square one.

I was thinking of working with the AFL on one of my next films, but they're a completely corrupt corporate believe in nothing organisation.

Their legal advice must be, don't give the current complainants any ammunition by coming down too swiftly.

And where will 50k be cut?

Not in an area they think had a direct bearing on winning and losing.

At footy clubs it will be in areas like player welfare. Or comms.

So the players and fans wear The brunt of the fine. Typical

That $50,000 won't be much help to the AFL in the court cases to come. It won't help establish how concerned the AFL was about concussion back in 2023.  Maybe they think the $50K if wisely invested with Sportsbet will help pay the AFL legal fees.  Short-termism - may get them past this week but destroy the AFL in 10 years time.

Of corse that soft cap is going to increase by $250,000 in 2024 so not even a fine.

Does anything need to be cut? Can't clubs go over the soft cap and pay a "tax" as penalty to the AFL?

The AFL had the perfect opportunity to make a strong statement here and put the fear of god into cheating clubs but they didn’t. Basically saying if the match is important enough, go ahead and ignore the rules and face a flogging with with a feather.

And Port Adelaide are not paying 100% of their cap anyway, so basically it doesn't impact them at all.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me. I've never felt more of a 'scripted' feeling about the media more than this year. In wrestling terms this would be known as a 'work'. Guess it is sports entertainment after all!

And anyone who listens to them is essentially a 'mark', in confidence trick parlance.

Ah, media management.  The AFL says 'massive fine' and the ABC radio news just parrots the phrase.    At least the ABC websites simply state the penalty without commenting on whether it is 'massive' or 'pissweak'

Yes. Damage to the frontal lobe causes impulsivity and poor decision making. Look at the instances of boxers, MMA fighters and spousal abuse. These people have suffered multiple concussions and direct damage to their pre frontal cortexes, which is the thinking centre of the brain and helps us to self regulate, problem solve and provides us with a capacity for reflective thinking, thinking before acting etc.

There's also a great doc on Netflix about NFL player Aaron Hernandez called 'Killer Inside'. He had repeated concussions that led to brain injury, that then led to dark outcomes. You get the picture, but it goes into all this stuff.

Also former WWE wrestler Chris Benoit. Killed his wife and children in a murder-suicide. Post mortem scans of his brain showed it resembled an old man with dementia from repeated concussions. Horrible stuff

the point is the hypocrisy. We all know what Cornes would have said if it was any other club in the AFL rather than Port.

The AFL response to this is underwhelming to say the least and the way the AFL media have towed the company line makes me very cynical. I'd love to see a Journo start to ask questions including what was in Port Adelaide's formal response, the role of the AFL marshall in reporting the incident, what will happen if another club does the same thing during finals - will it be a $100k fine or something else.

Jesus. I just read a bit about this. Literally crying. Violence against children makes me even more emotional as a new father.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
