Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Wasn't his dad a just a wee bit older when he first played?  Plus that the new body type for players.

According to AFL Tables, Shane played his first game aged 20 years and 258 days; Taj was 20 years and 104 days.

AFL Tables also says Shane was 185cm tall and 83kg while Taj is 182cm and 81kg - but I'd suggest taking that data with a grain of salt. I have no idea when those measurements were taken (at the beginning or end of Shane's career, for example?)

Loved watching Shane play late 1990s early 2000s and was very sad when he moved to Collingwood.

I couldn't get to the game but from TV Taj looked composed and balanced - a very sound debut.

If he continues to perform well, any ideas on just where he will fit in (as much as there are any 'positions' in today's game)?    HB, wing, HF, mid?.

As I recall dad started as a HBF and was moved into the midfield after a year or two.

I've heard senior used to ask the waiter in restaurants if he could go into the back to measure his portions.

But we don't tolerate unsubstantiated rumours on Demonland..

I often go out back to measure my portion and am constantly disappointed

Spitting image of Ben Cousins, appearance,  size, skills,  the way he moves through traffic.

I was very disappointed at the end of the game, young guy beaming, standing beside the coach, got completely blown away, when the coach ran ten metres to Brayshaw for a man hug.

People skills need to be better than that coach.

He looked like he 'belonged' at AFL level. Certainly not overawed.

Good debut.

Interestingly, what impressed me the most is that his first two touches were turnovers, but he still managed to work his way into the game and do some good things. That demonstrated a good mental ability to play in the present.

I just love how our FD has overseen the rise and maturity of Jackson (RIP), Kozzy, Rivers, Bowey, McVee, JVR, Chandler and now Woey in the last 4 years. It says a lot for our development, our mental health team and our overall club processes.

I have complete confidence that the players coming through the door at the MFC these days are getting the best mentoring, teaching and care possible in a football club.

What a journey this club has been on over the last decade.

I was sitting above the interchange area during the game.

With less than 5 minutes to play, Goody spoke for a while with Woey when he was on the bench. There also appeared plenty of positive emotions towards him.

My guess is, Goody gets around to everyone, in his time, and with a natural, authentic, and unforced manner

No, I dissect the whole game from behind the bench, watch the replay, Joel, Taj, and Kossie required some encouragement, not the good old boys.

let’s not make stuff up mate.

You may vomit emoji at me, I think that shows your agenda. To Judge and point to others, that Goody is a poor leader.

I expressed what I saw.

There was opinion based on that and other things I've seen with Goody.

I also believe his strengths include his management of people.

So I go against your agenda and you vomit. Wow!

I haven’t seen the replay.

Though based on your reaction to MFC, unlikely I will be taking your advice.

Were you at the game?

Did you see Goody relating to Woey, less than 5 minutes before the end?

I did see him walk past Joel when on the field with them. Didn’t see Kossie. So, possibly the same issue, he will get to them in good time.

Sorry, this is a nonsense post. How the feck would you know what Goodwin says to the players? The answer is you wouldn't have a clue.

How can one ‘dissect the game’ while only watching the proclivities of the coach with the interchange?

Conundrum.

Pretty sure his next 2 touches were score involvements.
Spewin' he missed his late sealer.
Woulda brought the house down.

Has a bit of speed which we lack, thought his debut was pretty good

Is this actually really true anymore?

Kozzy, McVee, Bowey, Chandler and then aerobically, Langdon isn't slow. Trac and Clarry have great burst speed too.

I hope he kicks one on Friday. That really will bring the house down.

We were panned for not only our recruitment and drafting but also our development and nurturing of talent early last decade. We've come a very long way and I couldn't be prouder with the way we go about our business now, you just know every player that has their debut has been given the best possible start.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. The Dees take on the Blues and have the opportunity to win their third game on the trot to solidify a spot in the Top 4 in addition to handing the Blues their third consecutive defeat to bundle them out of the Top 8.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
