Disagree. Today was ordinary but been good this season and he doesn’t lack footy confidence at all..

I haven't watched Casey play this year and would appreciate the thoughts of anyone who has regarding Jefferson.

He has kicked 14 goals in 11 games this year, but not been named in the best players yet. I feel that a knack for finding goals is a good trait for a forward, even if he isn't earning them the traditional way (contested marks etc). Wondering how we think he is developing?

He's a work in progress.

He has often played with TMac, BBB and Schache in the forward line so his time upfront has been compromised.

Today he was ok without starring. Roscoe the Magpies fullback was very strong after quarter time

Hoping for glimpses at VFL level but the earliest I would expect him to challenge for an AFL game is second half of 2024

Hence why Schache isn’t getting a game in the seniors, what have we gained letting Weids go?

Schache wasn’t recruited to play every week and is a last resort.   Weed was no different, so the club gave him the chance to go play senior footy somewhere else.  It’s hardly rocket science

Was he a mystery injury withdrawal? I don't think he is a listed injury is he? And he has played recent weeks with Casey.

Not a withdrawal, wasn’t named in the team. Casey article said he and Turner were out injured, no details.

Won’t make it. I’ll get slammed for this opinion but that’s what I think. Today he had no BBB or TMac crowding his space and was largely ineffective. I’m yet to see any appealing traits bar a decent pair of hands. Plays with all the presence of a school kid

He’s 18. He is a kid.
I think he has a lot of raw talent and skills to work with. He needs a good pre season to put the weight on and get his fitness up. He will not debut before he’s 20-21 IMO and that’s ok.

We seem to have to many "non forwards" in Jefferson,Seston and the Schack and possibly B.Brown. Schack and Tomlinson (after he has been dropped )  need to alternate between forward and defence as we need another younger version of T.Mac . I would run Jefferson on the ball this will improve his engine. Casey winning a flag is not important but development is. Fancy our non afl players are amongst our best, their is something wrong perhaps the coach needs to go along with other coaching staff.

Schache had a great game last week playing forward and ruck (taking over from Bell) and kicking 4 goals. It was a good enough game to put his name in front of the match committee for tomorrow's game. Today he had a stinker. It shows the gulf between his best and non-competitive worst.

Disagree. Winning a flag is always important. You can't take that attitude to any sporting contest. If it isn't in Australia's constitution it should be. Not only is it particularly  important to followers and non listed players, the listed players should be doing their best in every game and to win the grand final. And it is fair to include general endeavour in their assessments.

Plus, have a look at the photos of the team after last year's grand final. Listed and non listed players were rapt.

i don't know how you have this opinion given what he shows - he marks it well, kicks it well, crashed packs today

he needs to build up muscle mass and work on fitness but there's a lot to work with because the most important thing as a forward is that he gets to contests

when the main forward he's hit the scoreboard multiple times throughout the season, much as he did today as the sole tall forward target as shache had to play in the ruck as farris-white and valentine were completely lacking the ability to compete against the filth's rucks

the biggest knock i'd have on jefferson so far is that he doesn't run hard defensively but i'm hoping it can be taught to him as there's plenty to like about his development

Bright spots on the Casey radar appear to be another consistent performances from 'Bones' Howes, Jefferson Ford hitting the scoreboard and Andy Moniz-Wakefield's performance after a recent return from injury. That 'rainmaker' snap he kicked for goal was also accurate. Boy has some x-factor about him.

NIGHTMARE by KC from Casey

Late in the opening term of their game at Casey Fields on Sunday afternoon, the Casey Demons were dominating and held a lead of 31 points over Collingwood VFL. Was it the wind advantage? The fortress is well known at this time of the season for the strong winds that can mess with a game but that wasn’t the case this time. The way the hosts were playing, it looked as if a Magpie nightmare was about to unfold.

But alas for Casey, that was not to be and rather, it was exactly the opposite as from that point in things fell apart for the reigning VFL premier. They were uncharacteristically held goalless in the second term, managed only one in the third and took until halfway through the last before kicking a couple of goals that were too late to avert another bad loss at home that has seem them lose touch with the top echelon of teams on the VFL premiership table.

The story began well before the opening bounce. With two key Melbourne listed key position talls in Harry Petty and Tom McDonald and rookie ruckman Will Verrall already out injured, the Casey Demons were struck a body blow with injuries to full forward Ben Brown, key defender Daniel Turner and ruckman Jack Bell and the unavailability of Matt Buntine forcing a major recasting of the side that left it undermanned and undersized.

When the Magpies made their comeback in the second quarter, their efforts were aided by the fact that the Casey Demons lacked the big men to go with the Magpies who dominated the air in the last three quarters.

That dominance began in the ruck where their super tall men feasted on a young light bodied learner in rookie Kyah Farris-White who recently has been plying his trade in the Coates Talent League. The youngster tried hard in the ruck but struggled around the ground and in the air. Teammate Josh Schache was also conscripted into the ruck and while he too worked hard in the ruck duels, he had his hands full with the Collingwood big men. To compound the situation, Magpie forward Nathan “Freddy” Kreuger turned things around and gave Casey coach Taylor Whitford a nightmare of his own with his strong marking and accurate kicking for his five goals.

For the Demons, it’s hard to fathom where they would have been without the return from injury of Jimmy Munro who finished the game with 21 disposals and 10 bone crunching tackles.

Early in the game youngster Matt Jefferson was dangerous up forward with the first two goals of the game but lack of opportunity kept him to only one more for the day. Another youngster in Andy Moniz-Wakefield was busy throughout and contributed a nice goal. He was unlucky not to get a second but it was touched by a teammate as it went through. Blake Howes was another young Demon who worked hard against the odds with 28 possessions that must see him closing in on an AFL debut.

Casey listed players Roan Steele and George Grey gave their hard working skipper strong support on the day and Ryan Baldi also worked hard.

The defeat sees Casey drop to 7th on the ladder, a situation that is not likely to improve in the short terms as the Demons have a bye next weekend.

Glass fully empty type....Wow that harsh criticism, and pure guesswork for his future.

BBB And TMac have not even been getting bags of 3 goals lately.

I would say you are going much too early on a kid who has a few years to develop properly.

Not every tall forward is ready to go at 18 or 19.

Another 6-8Kg next year and he will be much improved.

Stop bashing our kids...it is UTTERLY pointless....Just shows you to be particularly impatient or petty.

Glad i am not your kid!

Puts him in front of about 700 other AFL players on this front alone then.

I've watched nearly all the Casey games this year and have been extremely sceptical about Jefferson. Can mark, kick and read play. But so so easily pushed around and no physical presence. Hesitant in contest. This week he showed a lot more but still brushed aside. Some softish games coming up, finals and some months adding in pre season adding some muscle and I think the dees have a player.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
