Classy debut

What a great debut by the young man #41.    Fits is so well already into the "defensive unit", reads the play well, is very calm and his disposal was generally very good and sharp.  I loved the baulk around Borat on the members wing.

Well done.

(Bowey and Rivers also did well, so when Salem does his week or two at Casey to get back into things I wouldn't like to be a selector.)

If we get a good run with injuries once Fritsch, Viney, Salem & May return, selection meetings could go long into the night!  Have we got at least 28-30 to pick from?

Not sure how the MC's operate these days but back in the day, the teams might have been picked on Tuesday's and then finalised on Thursday's

I suspect the make-up of the team is probably done by Monday night's these days (players with niggles pencilled in)

I’m really struggling with something from the game. The stats show we had 1 bounce for the entire match, for the life of me I can’t remember which player had our only bounce.

This could be a post-game quiz. You’re not allowed to watch the replay to get the answer.

Didn't Harmes or Melksham bounce the ball but then it went soggy and Trac and others all fell over each other in the goal square?  It ended up being a behind I think... 4th quarter maybe?

Somebody should take those 30 seconds and add the Benny hill music lol

Another crazy stat is we only had TWO contested marks for the game (the dogs had 9). On a perfect night for footy, save a bit of a swirly wind. Maxy clunked both (though i thought Sparrow took a nice contested mark on the member's wing)

Two contested marks? That has to be some sort of (unwanted) record surely?

Perhaps the number of talls in both teams was a factor?

he is also more effective than JJ who always stops and props

Judd is a massive upgrade

I noticed Chandler do this a lot.  Also when he marked he didn't seem to look for options instead going back to take his kick.  It didn't hurt us on Saturday night but it might in other games and it can slow or kill our momentum not to mention give the opps time to get their defenders back or set up.

After all the hype on here it's really time JVR banged the door down.

JVR has all the potential in the world but Goody alluded to the fact that he doesn't have the match fitness to play the role in the AFL. TMAC plays his role and frees up Brown to make scoreboard impact. He also did a great job linking up across the ground, I don't think JVR has the tank at this stage.

Ben Brown when he missed his kick in the goal square?

The crowd noise was pretty great the whole game, especially from the ordinarily reserved Dees fans... my comment was regarding how quiet the support for our AFLW premiers was during the half time lap.

Agree that the Bulldog supporters simply did not show up, but happy with the Dees numbers generally.

I was referring to the support for the ladies.

It was Spargo (who took one when he didn’t really even need to).

Massive win. Watched the replay twice.

My favorite crowd moment was when  the MFC faithful drowned out the boos for Lachy Hunter.

Just on this I watched the handshakes at the end of the game and there wasn’t a lot of love between Hunter and his former teammates. Was very interesting.

That was an issue last season but not in the pre season JVR came back very fit training in WA over the break. I don't think it applies to Goody now and I certainly have not heard that pre season after 4/5 mths of training.

Surely Jakes early marks some were contested? Strand stat this one.

Will  say that we passed to teammates a lot in the open or way out in their own.

The Dogs are a very bitter club and I think it starts at the top with Bevo. Always with the underdog, us vs them mentality. Their carry on post grand final was borderline insane and did nothing for their season.

After that beautiful feint/baulk on the boundary line (which was almost right below where i was sitting) I said to bloke i was sitting next to at the footy that he the trait of the really good players (albeit an awfully cliched one) - time.

Which now that i think about it is probably manifestation of quick thinking and perhaps also a level of calmness.

That little bawk(?) was a thing of beauty.  Very subtle but it totally wrong footed Libba who just dropped his head knowing he had been beaten.

A difficult one. You can understand a player who stops and props when he is off balance or not in a good position to accurately deliver the ball and/or a team mate is not in position to receive the ball.  However, it can hurt you in the manner you describe particularly against a really quick side like Collingwood.

To beat Collingwood you need to set up well defensively, slow them down between the arcs and beat them on turnover.  I could be entirely wrong and bombing it to the pocket might do the trick :) Remember, If it wasn't for some poor goal kicking we had them cold last year.

Has that unteachable ability for quick thought and skills to then execute with speed (and minimal error). Full respect to Jayden Hunt’s service to the Dees, McVee is a big upgrade.

You are dead right mate. He is an upgrade on Hunty (no disrespect to him) I hadn’t thought of that.

Yes if Judd can be that clean and be at pace with the game, on debut he will be a solid member of the team.
Very impressive

You can't let them run it out of their defence.

Subject: Disappointed with Tom MacDonald's Performance in Melbourne's Win Against the Western Bulldogs

Dear fellow footy fans,

I am writing this forum post to express my disappointment with Tom MacDonald's performance in Melbourne's recent win against the Western Bulldogs on March 18th, 2023. As a die-hard Melbourne supporter, I was ecstatic when we came out on top against one of the toughest teams in the league. However, I couldn't help but feel upset with MacDonald's lackluster form throughout the game.

Tom MacDonald is known for his prowess in the forward line, but during the game, he seemed to be struggling to find his footing. He missed several easy marks and failed to convert a few crucial goals. In fact, he only managed to score one goal in the entire game, which was far below his usual standards.

As a fan, it's frustrating to watch a player who is capable of so much more deliver such an underwhelming performance. I understand that every player has off days, but MacDonald's lack of form was particularly disappointing given the significance of the game. Melbourne had a chance to cement their position as one of the top teams in the league, and MacDonald's inability to perform at his best may have cost us the opportunity to do so.

Of course, I don't mean to undermine the efforts of the rest of the team, who played exceptionally well throughout the game. The likes of Gawn, Oliver, and Petracca delivered some impressive performances, which ultimately helped us secure the win. However, as a supporter, I can't help but feel upset at MacDonald's form, especially considering his potential to be a game-changer.

In conclusion, while I am thrilled with Melbourne's win against the Western Bulldogs, I can't help but feel disappointed with Tom MacDonald's performance. I hope that he can bounce back in the next game and deliver the type of form that we know he is capable of.

Thanks for reading,

This and also for god's sake put some attention into Nick Daicos. 35 touches at 91% efficiency, blind Freddy can see he's dangerous.
