Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

The big selling point from us is that McKay would be our undisputed #1 target.

Personally, I don’t like this.

I’d prefer we go for a more balanced set up (petty + McAdam + someone like a Lobb or a Bailey Williams as the 2nd ruck/forward) and evolve our method going forward.

Not sure my ticker could survive a season where our season is a Harry McKay form slump or Harry McKay ‘case of the yips’ away from getting blown out of contention.

swans picking up all the second rung mids - jj from us and dow from the blues

Yes they may be No 25/26 on their existing Clubs lists but by the time they have retired they are around A graders or at least high B.

Sorry WWSW but perhaps you have either a memory lapse or have been under a rock for the last few seasons.

Think Josh Kennedy Darren Jolly Ted Richards are  prime examples of many.  Buddy maintained his really high standards and also extended his legendary status.

Swans have won 2 flags and played in 6 GF in the last 18 years.

They have been at the top of creating "treasure" from (unwanted  players from other Clubs ) ie.  "trash ".

JJ will be handy and Brody won't be a poor recruit for a Swan's.

Lobb, McKay….

Surely we’re not that stupid.

We seem almost desperate if Lobb is a prospect. Perhaps we could trade our 40 th player the Schache for Rory though back to the Doggies.

McKay is a good footballer who if worked with seriously could be a big bonus which we could succeed  but let's not sell the farm in case it fails .

Not sure that talk of Harry McKay is realistic. If he somehow did go to Melbourne and you wanted him for goals he should be used as a classic full forward inhabiting the goal square. He played that role in 2021 for Carlton when Charlie Curnow was still out injured and won the Coleman Medal with 58 goals. His set shots were usually much closer to goal (with the consequent higher conversion rate) than they have been in the last 2 seasons where he was used differently and further away from goals. He is the kind of player who if he regained their set shot confidence could be the missing piece to win a flag. But yeah, there is an element of a gamble.

Fritsch can be used for longer range accuracy with McKay closer to the goals.

As for Rory Lobb, run away as fast as you can. He plays 3 or 4 decent matches a season.

Not against it (particularly if p5 is not part of the deal), McKay one of the few key forwards that has troubled Steven May in direct match ups in recent years.

May has owned Charlie, but McKay’s height and deceptive mobility has challenged Maysie. The only reason there’s any possibility of Carlton moving McKay on is that his kicking has been inconsistent, if he’s a dead eye, Blues would not be entertaining any trade.

While i'm not totally against McKay our record at fixing set shot kicking isn't great.

Would need to sort out his head too.  Not just accuracy but in terms of which kick to use from where (snap vs drop punt).  He was allover the shop here in the back half of the season.

We also had players having problems with same in the finals (Max & Smith from the same position on the ground towards the Punt Road end).

Having said that i can't see him leaving the Blues unless he's effectively pushed out the door.

Can't say anything about Ted Richards but these 2 were never unwanted players at their original clubs.

Rjay join WWSW under that rock. Darren Jolly  was freely given permission to go to the a Swans from none other than The Reverend ND as he believed we didn't need a second ruck to help Jeff White. Worst decision by ND IMOpinion.

Maybe my definition of unwanted is different to yours but JK was freely traded and Ted was a bit like Sam W with us and finally left the Bonbers to become a very valuable player at full back for the Swans.

Sometimes a Club treats a player as if they don't want them by selection processes and JJ and Bedford could come under that category, but the Club still wants to keep them. They have for eg. publicly touted Tommo was a required player but not as strongly with Toby or JJ.

Regrettably we have still some young Casey players awaiting their debuts and others consistent chances to attempt to bridge the VFL/AFL gap.

Clearing out about 6/7 from our 23 to 33 best players is a risk but not if we recruit and trade well, plus our youngsters are offered opportunities we may be surprised at the results.

Depth can be deceptive but is no good if not offered realistic opportunities and not all players have a patience at not getting a regular go at becoming established in the AFL
Team.

RE: Rory Lobb, can’t remember where exactly (podcast?) but I heard it from Gawn’s mouth that when we initially introduced Gawn to the idea of recruiting Grundy, he was told we had someone unexpectedly available lined up to replace LJ, and his immediate response was “oh, please don’t tell me it’s [censored]ing Rory Lobb.”

Cant take the suggest seriously but scared of the proposition at the same time.

Yes, Rory Lobb is on a 3-year deal (no idea why). He would not be in contract negotiations anytime soon.

His salary would be outrageous for us considering his output. Verrall May be a quick learner and be useful by end of 2024. Reckon we will get possibly Flynn hopefully,

Only my view and no information from anyone but me.

we need a replacement or help for Max

KW needs to be asked will you nominate the Demons. His answer to that question this year and next will determine the next choice for ruck.

we need a replacement for May, he is getting older and more easily injured.

teach whoever we pick all you can.

and I think we need someone to aim at up forward who can help in the ruck in the F50

JvR will I think be great , but he is too young just yet. And Mr Petty seems injury prone.

that brings us to the centreline and the mids or wingers. we might have the players here to swap about but a good user or deliverer of the ball would be nice. As long he was strong enough to get it.

In JT we trust !  Interesting times.

hate the pies, but all you need is to score more than the opposition. How much does not come into it.

Remember hearing the same thing.

I get why they're making the link, but I don't get why we'd pursue Lobb whilst ignoring Chol. Whatever flaws exist in Chols game, Lobb has the same in spades (echo that for strengths).

From a long game perspective, if it's true that having Lobb on the books is making it difficult for Dogs to re-sign Naughton, Ugle-Hagan,etc., I'm happily letting them struggle and see if Naughton can be lured over as a FA in 12 months time.  There's no one else taking Lobb and his contract off their books, they can keep and we should have a crack at picking off bigger targets from their list. Decent odds on it being reasonably messy at the Dogs this time next year.

He is worth pick 5 plus a future 1st

Not with his kicking woes and a bad case of the yips he isn't.

Would rather leave him at the Blues for them to sort his problems out for that price.

We need to grab one of Sanders, Caddy or maybe Watson with 5

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
