Trade Rumours 2023

The Haynes thing makes sense to me although I'm confused there's no media noise around it.

Given the cash we've freed up, surely it goes to Haynes for one year and then we have some big money to throw at Ben King, JUH or Logan McDonald as they're all coming out of contract at the end of 2024.

It gives us GWS first pick which would increase our chances of getting Reid or at least moving up to the top three of the draft?

Genuinely hoping this happens now. Haynes is a super smart defender and the perfect hybrid. Would be a great fit imo.

It doesn't make sense to me. If he has only 1 year left on his contract, why would GWS need a salary cap dump? Unless they are getting in a player this year for 800k, what's the point? Keep him 1 more year, save your draft pick and let him go at the end of 2024.

It’s been discussed numerous times. It’s essentially a replica of the Bowes trade.
Who the hell would pay Haynes $1.2mil if it didn’t come with perks?
GWS needs to get him off their books.

It's also been said numerous times that GWS don't need to get him off the books.

They can afford him, and won't be packaging a deal to ship him off.  It is a lot owed to him but it's only for next year. After that he is off the books. (Out of contract)

If a club has missed managed so bad that one player for one year has to get off the books they wouldn't be in the AFL.

It only makes sense if GWS need the cap space in 2024. Given they have said  publicly they will keep him, they would have to have a new player they are targeting and for whom they need cap space.

They do not seem anywhere near as desperate as GC was last year and I highly doubt they have a target lined up who will be so promising that they are prepared to trade out pick 7.

Right, I didn't know they'd come out publicly and said they'd keep him.

Thought they were keen to move him on but thanks for the update.

TBH it’s not anything other than the the thoughts of a few of us, that it could make sense to both clubs and is a possible deal, not a probable one.

Would you want to publicise it though? Or would you try to work out a deal first to get him mostly off your books without having picks come into play?

If it wasn’t an issue, why not honour the contract? It’s a lot to keep for depth - i get that - but I think that they are overextended for 2024 and we may some action in the coming days. Not a rumour - just a gut feel.

That very well could be the case.

Haynes is 31 years old and the game has gone past him. Anybody thinking it's a good idea to bring him across obviously haven't watched GWS closely in recent times.

This talk of packaging him with pick 7 is La La Land stuff. Time to move on.

Its only a good idea if its a salary cap dump accompanied by their first draft pick from Tigers. That is fairly obvious. GWS may not be interested and it may indeed be La La Land stuff in that regard. But if it is available then Haynes actual playing ability is irrelevant. We'd be buying Pick 6 with the 2024 contract value we absorb and the list spot.

Sweet Garbo.

You're not understanding.

This is not about 'rushing' into a trade. I know as much or as little as you!!!!

Here's what we've heard from the media: Petty has a desire to get back to SA at some point. And Adelaide are hell bent on getting him this trade period and have offered what myself and many believe to be overs in pick 10, 20 and McAdam.

Now.

If that is true, we'd be a poorly run club not to entertain this offer given the options it gives us going forward.

What are those options, (everyone keeps asking me). I don't [censored] know!!!!

BUT!!

What I do know is that we already have a strong draft hand. We have a fantastic list manager and recruiter and have an enormously positive track record in this space.

What people on demonland need to get in their heads is what our future looks like post Gawn and May. Where will our list be? What kind of pain needs to be inflicted now to give us a positive looking future?

It honestly seems like nobody is thinking that way.

I don't care if we don't make finals next year or the year after if it means we can have another four cracks at it in three-four years time.

You also have to look at what that kind of thing does for the growth of the club as far as new supporter and membership goes...

I don't get why people don't think of this?

You want flags now and only now?!

We just missed out on two golden opportunities. Time to look forward with this list and entertain any and all offers that could benefit our club going forward.

Sometimes I think of this place as being a cult. And Saty runs it.

Saty would still have Jordie McKenzie, Rohan Bail and Matthew Bate as our leadership group promising that they're improving every pre-season.

(all the while we'd be bottom of the ladder losing games by 100 points).

where is the scooter man??

Of all the players moving who do you want or who do we need?

We have 2 players, a forward/ruck and a mid size forward that want to come to us.

Not sure who we would want

McAdam and Fullarton say hi.

But seriously, we now don’t need to take not best 23 players and on that basis,  maybe haven’t really gone hard for anyone.

Beside McAdam and Fullarton..?

Well yes... but small beer really, compared with those jumping ship to other large clubs in contention.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
