Like with Weideman, my concern is you can't teach physicality. It's innate in some, lacking in others. Jesse had it from day dot, JVR has it. Weid looked a million bucks with a run and jump (which if you recall, was his touted draft strength) but at AFL level you just rarely get the opportunity to attack an aerial ball unbuffeted. Hopefully Jefferson has a few more strings to his bow. 

I really do hate to be critical of an 18 year old kid who hasn't played a game and presents well. But it feels like a story we've watched to the end before. 

Having said all of that - I'll be right behind him, hope I'm so far wrong and he's Josh Kennedy reincarnated.

Feels like you could apply all of his flaws to Max King 

Highlight reel reminds me of Jarrad Waite. Hopefully minus the suspensions and injuries.

Suspect he’ll spend next year at Casey as he puts on more size.

So, now we do a quick trade to jump into the early picks tomorrow and grab Barnett & Keeler, added to Jefferson and our new rookie Faris-White, and we'll have a solid 8m draft.

It's funny. As soon as his name was called out and they were playing his highlights, I said to myself, that's Charlie Curnow. Shifter then came on and said he plays like the King Brothers (not something that I really see) and then Jefferson comes on and says he compares himself to Charlie Curnow. 

When you've got that x factor in the air, it can compensate for a lack of physicality at ground level IMO.

Obviously will need Casey time to develop and fill out a bit but there seems to he enough there to work with.

Some similarities to Watts more so than Cook for mine. Build, goal kicking action, confident but laconic. Seemed slightly quicker than Watts though.

I wont get too carried away with a highlights package but marking seems to be a strength. Good hands, timing is good, protects the space against similar types and can leap.

How will it translate to AFL level?

Jesse was somewhat of an exception.  A bit of a man-child.  Unfortunately at times, it almost seems like he stayed that way with some of his dummy spits on the feild.

Sheez, hope we don't play Maysie on him in the intra-club games. Charges could escalate from common assault to manslaughter.

Cook was a Barry Prendergast brain fart. I can’t see how this could be any comparison whatsoever. 
Watts was a gifted footballer that unfortunately did lack physicality and strength in contest. Goodwin quite rightly marched him out the door. 
I would be absolutely gobsmacked that we would invest in Jefferson where ‘contest’ is our number 1 philosophy and didn’t think he’s got the mental attributes.

Cadman was pick 1. Jefferson was always likely to be the second key forward taken at around our pick.

Really like him as a player from what I've seen, so very happy with the pick.

Really controls the space in marking contests will, so he takes some fairly unconventional marks when out of position. It's an unusual skill and it reminds me a bit of Tom Lynch in that regard. He's obviously a lot more mobile than Lynch but also not at the same size (nor running capacity). 

He'll take time to build up size and running power but he has all the raw tools (and tricks) that you need to play as a key forward .... even if that may not be right away.

I think the highlights are overselling his ground ball work. 

Pre-injury Charlie Curnow was mobile enough to  play as a midfielder. I don't think Jefferson is anywhere near that level of mobility.

But he's got a touch of class when he gets the ball which is the sign of a good player. And he's well aware that he has to contribute in that aspect of play which I really like.

I love the Jarrad Waite call. He was a key forward with a heap of talent  and nice all-round game who really took until late in his career to get the best out of himself.

El Jefe compares himself to Naughton who is just insanely brave and also probably the best pack mark from any key forward. Yeah, I'd be pretty happy with that.

Did not watch the draft, but yeah, not sure how I forgot Cadman. He's been off the table for us for the last few months that I'd totally forgotten he initially had a thread here on DL and discussions about us taking him with a high pick, before he became consensus #1 🤦‍♂️

That may be so but Casey did us no favour by recruiting Fevola which stymied Cook's development.

Fevola demanded to be played at FF and Cook didn't have the body to be played at CHF.

Not sure how well JVR and MJ will develop if they're side by side at Casey.

IMO a tad different than playing two talls in the Seniors FF line.
