To be fair, Olisik was one of the first here to identify Clayton Oliver as a top prospect (before he was even heard of) If not the first

I remember him sticking his neck out and not long after, the chat about Oliver heightened

It's true he's more visible when the team doesn't do well but that reasoning can apply to a stack of others as well.  His harshest critics can often be just as miserable

True, but I also was a huge wrap after seeing early footage of his clearance work! Never in doubt he was going to develop into something special!

You're a legend picket, there's no doubt about it!

The point I'm making is that losses are always more of a talking point than wins ... unless it's a GF win.  And we can all sound off when it suits

I don't see Olisik as being any different to hundreds of others here

But he doesn't find fault when we win that's why we don't see him here when we win ... however, there are many here who do find fault when we win

On past posters.  There are a couple who lurk and regularly 'react' but no longer post:   @Rhino Richardsand @beelzebub

I have had a few chats with Beelz through inbox and have asked this exact question why he doesn't post anymore, but he's very silent on this.

Rhino, well he can just keep to reacting and being silent..

For what its worth my title started way back when i first went to games rooms- The Demons bit was unavoidable as i was born to it (dad was part of social club) the 12345 means nothing and the 2000 was my first year with a computer, but i come in here every day as a silent fan, just love the banter but would love to change to DonkeyDoodleDave one day

@deanox- deano-x or dean-ox?

@Clint Bizkitis still my favourite culture merger. There’d be a whole generation of Demonlanders who have no idea what either references are now. We’re getting old!

My surname isn’t Nash. Nasher was out of a game I used to play 25 years ago, and when I was an online gamer in my youth I started using it as an alias to my normal name when I wanted some anonymity, and for a brief period in the early 00s it became the alias I used everywhere. It has no relevance at all in my life now and this is the only presence where I still use it.

End life story.

Did you used to post on the Melbourne Victory board under the same @Nasher? It seems very familiar from around the time I would frequent that board.

Interesting! I thought your name might have been a reference to BBQ onions from Gus and Gawny, @Engorged Onion

@Skuit always makes me think of Scoot... and what's the reason for yours, @Dee Zephyr? Going back to Windy Hill or something?

@Sydee is like Sydney Dee... but I might have made this up!

Mine simply refers to the kind of play I hope to see our players perform in every game 😊

Correct - @DeelightfulPlay supporter of many long years - still have my footy records from the 70s 😀

I apparently signed up early 2006. My god that’s a long time ago. My username was referring to the great Travis Johnstone. At the time Travis was my favorite player and was the most exciting demon going round. He had just had a few great years where he lead the league for inside 50s and score assists. His kicking was sublime and he was impacting games in a way I hadn’t seen before. I loved watching him stream down the wing of the G and blast laser passes through Neitz’s chest. He also stood up in big games, and was always amongst our best in finals matches. After decades of failure and no superstars, it felt like we finally had a superstar midfielder on our hands.

History shows he didn’t reach those superstar heights we’d dreamed of, and it would take another 15 years until we had our superstar midfielders in Oliver and Petracca. I still love Travis though and feel he’s underrated by demon fans and football public in general.

As for me, much like Travis’ form, my mood and posting is very up and down!

Amazing that we haven't drafted a player since his departure that comes remotely close to his skill level and talent.

His ability to bullet low flat 40m passes on the chest of Neita was something you could never get enough of.

Can you imagine how incredible Travis would be in today's line up!? Exactly the type of player that we're lacking.

Similar to this thread - always thought the Stones were singing about 'pistachio ice-cream' as a kid. Easy guess as to the song?

Grew up hearing the same, and now when I hear that song I sing "Pistachio, Pistachio, a kind of nut'

But back to the thread, for me - boring name + number of fav growing up, Big Jim

I signed up in 2005 to this particular platform as one of the 'test' users when Demonland migrated over, but I was on the old platform too, which I think you were as well?

Hard to believe how much time has gone by. At least we finally got that flag!

Bummer we can only use one reaction emoji, Roy. I ❤️-ed your post coz Jimmy, and because your name is not boring at all! But…

“Pistachio, pistachio, a kind of nut” ????? I laughed so hard at this I was legit crying. 😂 Please tell me you were a little kid at the time and therefore can be forgiven for thinking the Rolling Stones were giving us a lesson in foodstuffs and that this wasn’t strange.

My old man was with the club (not as a player) in the early 60s (so I have been there in person for one flag!), and I had 31 on my jumper of course. After RDB went to Carlton I didn't know what number to get. Hassa Mann and Tassie Johnson were the next captains, but I had met Frank Davis at the club (played on the half back flank in the 64 premiership), and he was always willing to have chat and a kick at the end of training. So number 6 it was (he was number 40 early in his career), and thus my username.

Great topic!

Unrelated: I’ve never asked you about your username. Did you choose it because you’re lazy? Is it that simple? And why the spelling?

Personally I’m glad both are still around, even if they have their reasons for not posting. I butted heads with @beelzebuba bit back in the day, but I have no hard feelings at all. We’re all Demons and my opinion, all fundamentally on the same side at heart.

Moderating the forum was a hard and busy job in the early days, @Rhino Richards was one of the few that had the stomach for it. I am personally thankful he was around and I wish he’d pop his head in from time to time.

I hope both those guys enjoyed the flag.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
