Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Do the Dees have the pieces to make another premiership tilt?

We still have two newbies to come plus possible 3 extra Rookies not to mention the continual improvement of our list fitness and health wise plus our younger brigade. Yes we are Firmly in the Window.!!

We have probably improved the list slightly .However our issue last year was the forward line especially the 2 key forward positions and that remains unsolved .The only clear change is Schace for Weideman which is underwhelming .A lot of pressure is now unfairly on JVR but if he doesnt come on it is difficult to see a premiership in 2023.

I would say absolutely yes…. But…

As we know premierships require a lot of things to click and fit players is one. Do we have the depth, I’d argue we run a bit thinner than some. We certainly don’t expose enough depth players to see if they meet the standard, this will need to change.

Port, Bulldogs, Tigers, Brisbane will all improve next year. We need some growth from below to feature on the last game in September.

Our improvement will come from having available players.

If T-Mac can play 75% of the year, particularly in the back half, we should be primed for a tilt.

2021 was a charmed run with injury, 2022 was a horror show. If we are somewhere inbetween we are top 4 at a minimum

We will bounce around top 6 for the next 3 seasons .

Yes.

The key is injuries that hurt us badly in 2022.  Even when stricken at the end of the year we were still able to lead in most games but could not persist and prevail. Even a 50% improvement in injuries will put us at the top of the heap.

As for changes - Schache at least played some games (and was selected in their top 22 for the GF) whereas Weid played very few and was never in the top 22; if Hunter plays to his potential it will free up Angus for other roles (midfield or HB); Grundy is a better ruckman than dogga, 10cm taller, can take marks in the forward line and will have his mind on impressing the coach, not going home.

All systems go. GO DEES

I have always said that a club needs your top 15 players provided they are in the best 150 players in the AFL to play nearly all of the matches and with a bit of luck you can be premiers.

The quality of the bottom 7 players make the team better so they need to improve.

I look at the list and it has recruited 2 quality players who if they perform at their best we can be Grand Finalists.

The 8 teams who look to be in the GF mix are Geelong, Brisbane, Richmond, Collingwood, Swans, Fremantle, Carlton and Melbourne.

Injuries will play a big part in the end.

Of the 8 teams Swans, Carlton and Fremantle have not improved their lists as much as the other 5.

The outsiders like Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide need more luck with injuries due to their depth not being as good as the other 8.

Ummmmm Gary Buckenara had a few interesting takes........

He rated Oscar Baker as a B grade player amongst players such as Grundy, Langdon, Pickett and Fritsch

He also says that he expected us to offload some players for salary cap relief to bring Grundy in, and suggested Ed Langdon as one of the players we could/should have offloaded.

Wow.

Personal opinion is that it's the talent of your top 6 that dictates whether or not you CAN win it, and then the buy in and application to the process/roles of the whole group that dictates your chances of actually getting it done. That's why player movement outside the top few players at each club is much of a muchness for this sport IMO.

We have the talent, but we absolutely didn't stick to the discipline that took us all the way 12 months ago. Geelong played our 2021 style while we veered away from it (they applied huge pressure around the contest, we didn't. They worked hard to shut down ANY outlet from marks/free kicks for the oppo trying to move out of their half, while we let them advance too easily).

Gee it would have been a great GF had we brought our intensity from 2021 to the Cats of 2022. If we get back to it next year, we are a chance to have a crack at another GF.

Ditch that Selwyn/Burgess fitness regime and we will be there. Flogging a horse to run hard only works for so long. No wonder Burgess only hangs around for a couple of seasons before moving on. He doesn’t want to be around when everything collapses. Like when Lyon coached the Dockers and Saints. Performed like a powerhouse for a couple of seasons before flaming out due to the players being pushed over the limit. He was unlucky not to get a flag like Goodwin did but we cant repeat the debacle of our second half of the season in 2023. We won’t build a dynasty with broken bodies. The penny dropped for Geelong and so should it for us.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
