Lacking a genuine 2nd tall forward.

Max must ruck !!

Lever a liability in man on man situation. (Less waving arms around and providing instructions to midfield and more practice in using the left side of his body plus manning up.

Another anonymous game from Koz on the big stage, wtf

Gus did not lose us this game. Too many mistakes by too many, and too few putting in. Thank god for May and Oliver, or it would have been a walkover.

I didn't say Gus single-handedly cost us the game.

Will be interested to see the scores from turnovers though, was a factor tonight.

Also, we had more marks inside 50, yet they had twice as many tackles inside 50.

We've lost every game we've played against the other 3 teams in the top 4 this year. We can dream, but you can't really argue with the fact that we just aren't as good as those other sides. Most of those losses on our home ground.

Really thought we'd have Sydney's measure tonight, but I  have overrated us too. We are being beaten in the physicality stakes by the big boys and that hurts.

Yep I've been at the G for many of those losses. I really hate losing to them here. Or anywhere obviously, but especially here.

Don't worry GF we'll get them, TMac back.

We can't play any worse than today.

Our best is the best, you could see it tonight in those outburst of goals, we couldn't sustain it though

Out coached by all, Hickey killed both of them, forwards chasing the same marks, midfield got smashed in clean ball, still shaking head, what a cluster F of a forward line.  Viney, ANB and Harmes why is a need to try and take everyone on stuffed if I know anyway hope we all wake up tomorrow as it is a new day......

Very disappointing,  our midfield weren't smart enough today.  tried to get too much clean exits and turned it over with poor handballs.   Syd on the other hand moved the ball forward quick and long by foot from stoppages.

May had an outstanding game as did petty, be we really struggle with Sydney's smaller fwd line players.

we really needed T-Mac today, and i dunno if it Melksham that goes out.  I usually a hater but he played an important role and should have kicked 2 goals.  not handballing back to spargo really hurt us though.

ANB is really out of form and does some real head scratching things, maybe he makes way.

we didn't handle the pressure and need to get batter, but we have a 2nd chance

And hopefully the loading theories can be put to bed. Its really hard to win back to back.

Well played Sydney! They were great and deserved the win in the end. Just couldn't get our game going largely due to Sydney. Disappointed...

But what about the loading? Aren't we supposed to be at our optimal by now.

Hopefully this result shuts up the loading sycophants. We're 6-7 since round 11. This result mirrored our performances against better teams.

Went to bed at 3QT. Not sure I can be bothered upsetting the dog next week abusing the umpires.

What more can be said besides what's been said?

Swans clearly deserved their win. Able to kick goals against the grain of play. More pressure for longer and the type of pressure that gets oppositions second guessing themselves.

Our issues came down to doing the opposite to what happened in our loss to the Lions. Undisciplined rubbish let them back in the game when we had ascendancy.

I was also disappointed with our performance in the ruck. While Dogga gave us momentum in the GF last year, we seemed a lot less competitive with him in the ruck.

Only real highlight was Clarry's and Maysie's game. We really need to go back to the drawing board after that. That said, premiership teams have lost qualifying finals and came back to win the flag. Where there's life, there's hope.

If anyone thinks we're a sure thing against Brisbane you're delusional.

They will be primed and fierce.

ANB is not strong enough in any contest and kills our momentum 8 times out of 10 when he goes near it

Anyone who doesn't acknowledge the reality of loading in professional sport simply doesn't know what they're talking about. anyway back to the topic.

Really ill disciplined and fumbling tonight.

Spargo and Brown were liabilities. (Brown is cooked.)

Petracca not fit.

Jackson given a lesson.

Goodwin made a big error changing the game plan in Round 23 by encouraging kicks into the corridor. Too late to learn it and this cost 2 goals.

May two huge momentum killers when 16 and 12 points up.

I think that's when we lost it. It was so, so, so undisciplined. May owes us big time.

When you are only being used as a defensive forward only there is no attack mode should let him go now further that CHF and let him use the space, players are so used to kicking down the line they cannot move the ball at speed to the next player further up the chain.

Gee wiz. Time to get NIN - With Teeth in the ears for the long walk back to Flinders.

Brilliant high-pressure game from the Swans. We couldn't win clean footy by hand at the contest, which breaks down our game style.

Clarrie seemed like the only player with clean disposal, Tracc struggled after injury, Gus didn't impact, Viney ok early but went missing.

Constant fumbles, miskicks and handballs by many, but especially Salem, Harmes, ANB.

I don't know how our forwards have a chance against good sides with this gameplan.

On the upside, we should beat the Lions next week, but after that I reckon we're [censored].

Anb and melksham plus lever were purtrid. Sydney just too good tonight. Have to try new forwardline browns not gonna win the cup for us tmac might just get a game.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
