Either pick 21 or pick 29

It would have to be both, to get us into a trade for a higher pick.

Tony Sheahan I think, who broke the story, said he had signed with the Swans and we would get their pick 11.

Pick 11?! Wow I’m happy with that return!

About time someone started making sense around here. The solution lies in plain sight. And if sonething did click, it could be the catalyst that we so absolutely need at this moment.

Correct

Grundy is too good a footballer (from an overall perspective) to not be included in the team now

Nothing against the kid, but I'm convinced that Grundy would have been much better value than Laurie on Thursday night.  One is a seasoned veteran whilst the other is just a kid finding his way

The MC just needs to find a way of making 2 ruckmen in the same team work.  Other teams play 2 rucks and it works for them

And back in 2021 there was no thought of not playing Jackson & Gawn in the same team

A mini think-tank and some creative ideas is required from the MC.  And Stafford & Yze need to figure out how to get a connection from the mids & forwards

We need competent forwards, not gun AFL level rucks who cannot play forward. Grundy in, would be a waste, as neither Grundy or Gawn are much chop up forward.

Gawn is better as a key forward than anyone right now and that includes T-Mac.  The cupboard is bare and I doubt they'll go with Schache now after passing on him when we could have played him

That doesn't mean a forward line including T-Mac, Gawn, Smith, Fritsch, Chandler, Kozzie etc will work but that's what we're left with as there is no one else

Neither Tomlinson or Turner are forwards and neither is Smith if we're being honest. And Chandler & T-Mac aren't impacting to any degree

So Grundy rucks and Gawn goes forward because without Gawn forward, we might end up with a non functioning forward line

And the only way that Gawn can play forward is if Grundy plays

As it stands, without JVR we don't have a 2nd ruck unless we use our only (out of form) KPF (T-Mac)

So if it is T-Mac in the ruck whilst Gawn rests, who are our KPF's?

Who's in your front 6?

Our sizeable share of his contract off our books?

Whilst i understand the notion we still have to pay someone(s).  I dont see this aspect as the driving feature of the value of any trade.

That two clubs are already shopping suggests his value ( not to us per se ) but the market is higher.

We ought to realise that...and realise that value.

Imho...disregard how he came to us, it's his value leaving to another.

I do wish him well. He bought in. It didn't work. We all move on. Atm... he's worth more to other clubs than some might suspecr.

Red is onto this.

McClean looked good on Friday night. I'm not sure why they would be chasing Grundy although McClean looks like everything Grundy isn't, so they might complement each other better than gawn/grun

MClean plays that perfect forward ruckman role.

As Hickey is retiring, Grundy is his replacement.

Tom DeKoning played similarly to LJ in gathering possies at the contest and around the ground.

The fear is that Gawn’s effectiveness is curtailed if Grundy plays.

Gawn had 27 possies besides rucking. That won’t happen if Grundy plays. Both have failed as forwards this year.

It’s a real problem for the Match Committee with very limited options.

Two issues

1- Grundy to play vs Blues - (Jefferson not ready. Schache too soft ). Play as a forward and the 15% (say 5minutes ) of time Gawn rests.

2- Grundy to Sydney. Ok. If we get at least Swans picks 29&30 in this years draft in return for Grundy and MFC pick 34

Why do we need to replace JVR with a tall? Smith and McDonald are the talls, get smith to play on Weitering and Petracca spends 50% forward. Jordan replaces Brayshaw, and spargo comes in.. god knows we need his ball use

If I had to guess, Id say probably because Tmac shouldn't be playing. No definitely.

It's a hard call but Max does the fwd role better . I guess your thinking correctly that Max is needed around the ground as Grundy can't mark. I worry too that Grundy may be annoyed with the club. I hope we overload on big fwds in the off season.

Gawn is not rucking solo for four weeks and TMac is not playing as the only tall forward so Grundy comes in.

When Grundy is in the forward line, what about cutting our loses and having him tag Weitering? At least Grundy will get led to the ball and he should be effective at neutralising the aerial contest. May give our other forwards better opportunity to score.

Grundy is a professional footballer with potentially a chance to play in a premiership.  He will give his all if he's selected irrespective of what might happen post season.

I think Grundy plays fwd. We need Max as the reliable mark around the ground that he is. Grundy can't mark and I know that's counter-intuitive to having him as a fwd but we need to get the ball in there first.

I'd replace Chandler with Spargo. Chandler has done very little in quite a few now. It's bad enough having Kozzie hot and cold. Speaking of,  I'd play Kozzie in the middle for the first half and put Tracc fwd. Traccs slow first halves have really hurt.

I wish we could play Schache instead of Tmac or anyone. It's so wrong that's he's been given games this year but it's only by default.

Smith has been ok and Fritta has been too. Nowhere near his best but the blokes missed half a season. I also hope Grundy isn't angry with us and checked out like Jackson did last finals.

IMO 1 could happen but 2 can’t.

We will not trade him for 29 and a 4 place rise in picks.

Tony Sheahan said deal was done for pick 11. Hope he is correct, that is a great deal.

Swans are going for experience this year, to keep competing like Cats, as they think they need that more than more youngsters.

Agree with that.

Grundy is was way more professional and mature than the 2022 Luke Jackson who checked out in the finals series because he knew he was at Freo the next year.

He’ll give his all if selected. That should be the least of our worries.

Wow. Really. Grundy for pick 11. Surely swans would a minimum want a pick also back from the Dees , say like pick 34!  Grundy and MFC pick 34 - for Sydfc pick 11 … quick get me a pen !!!!

I don’t know only repeating his tweet.

Other media are still going with Port as possible new home. Sounds like Swans are more desperate.

Anyway, I could live with him winning a Premiership and the Norm Smith this year.😀

I agree..  we have to think very left field now ...imo.    we're forced to.

Grundy actually is a very effective ruck.

Max is a very good mark ( pack grabs )

Yep, we have to sacrifice not having Gawn predominantly rucking because we need marking strength up forward.  Or at least a decent target up forward

As you said, it's not as if Grundy isn't of great value in the ruck and around the ground

If we had a half-decent functioning forward line which included Petty, Melksham & JVR (or even a fit & healthy Ben Brown) then Grundy would have to remain on the sidelines

So for team balance, Grundy should be included in the team

And of course, Gawn could still have some good game time in the ruck even with Grundy included in the team

What the breakdown of forward, middle and back for both ruckmen is up to the MC to work out.  They need a solid, flexible plan

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
