Now look. I don’t usually complain about the umpires and I’m fully aware that it’s a hard task recruiting umpires but fair go.

There has to be a royal commission into what took place at Adelaide Oval today.

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. What in blazes is this all about?

We’ve been suffering from bad umpiring ever since Mick Warner took over from Gillon McLachlan as AFL CEO.

I’m still confused what was paid here, at the ground it seemed like it was paid for a block, but surely not.

I need too see a replay, but I’m guessing I’ll still be confused.

Look, if you're going to put your head in the way of someone's knee, you deserve to be penalised.

It was paid as a block. I was there and spilt my beer

The Oliver getting coathangered right in front of the ump when he didn't even have the ball was even worse if that's possible

The commentators said Mitch was pinged for blocking but were at pains to point out that Mitch just set up under the drop of the ball which is his right. However they pointed out that Mitch did take his eyes off the ball before contact but then said so did Tex at the same time. However they said the umpire would only have been able to see the eyes of Mitch, not Tex! So it seems we have umpires paying frees in contests in front of goal based on their eye movements! Bizarre stuff.

Then we had a number of frees paid in the first half with Crows players leading deliberately with their heads into on coming tackles, (I am looking at you Tex). Surely the Umpires should be onto this self induced dangerous tactic by now?

The worst display of umpiring since the same fixture last year. Some shocking calls today but reckon the deliberate out of bounds non-call last year still the worst of the lot

I actually turned the game off the umpiring was so bad

it was so bad even the thought of golden retriever puppies snuggled at my feet - guys look I LOVE GRs especially when they’re the NE American red - didn’t wash the anger away

i mean this is the type of thing the firing squad was invented for

An indiscriminate and vengeful spraying at those reponsible

heads must roll , don’t care whoms

over to the tour where none of this nonsense plays a part

jesus wept

I don’t blame the umpire closest to this incident because his view was clearly obstructed by other players. What I don’t get is why any of the other 2 umpires on the ground didn’t step in. At others grounds they would.

Is there a picture of Clarry’s Coathanger that wasn’t paid

i want to send all this evidence to an Adelaide mate!!

today was worse than being in W.A.

Fancy getting a rubbish run against the ump away in Adelaide.

get over it. There were rubbish calls but it happens.

we had more free kicks in all 3 finals last year.

Move on and stop whinging

When you're the best team in the comp the umpires blow the whistle against you more often than usual. I think they feel like the individual decisions won't effect the outcome of the match. I don't think it's malicious but I've noticed it for years- unfortunately now it's our turn.

Agreed.

The sooking on this thread has been an embarrassment tonight. We’ve resembled a bunch of Essendon and Collingwood supporters.

We won the game without a ruckman and got a critical 4 points in the bank. And yet all we’re interested in doing is bagging the umpires that quite frankly had an immaterial impact on the result.

But the inferior side was kept in the game by umpires that were clearly influenced by the home crowd noise.

At one stage it looked like Adelaide would win because of the umpiring.

I only saw the first half as was listening to the second half on radio but the umpiring was criminal. They want respect how about you earn it by being professional instead of parochial. It's so one-sided it is a disgrace and ours isn't the only game either. The Saints got reamed last night too, week in, week out there are absolute howlers and umpires getting sucked in by absolute rubbish like Tex leading with the head, rucks jumping all over their opponents and getting frees for blocking, scragging around contests and on key forwards going unpunished etc. Tonight was one of the worst displays I can remember though, absolutely farcical. Happy to just get away with the four points considering that.

We received more frees in each of the finals games because simply, we had superior umpiring standards.

It was a joke. We needed to have our heads ripped off to get a free while they got dippy dappy underpants frees.

There was one in the first half where Langdon let the ump know about it - he gave off the handball and went to run on but was blocked. That is a free kick and automatic 50m penalty but the ump just called play on. Right in front of him, blatant and he just swallows his whistle.

Kept going right to the final siren too when ANB should have got a free kick for kicking in danger, the commentators actually mentioned this one but only in a half joking manner. They're happy to single out players like Lever for doubling over after getting whacked in the guts but won't comment on the blatant cheating by the umps. They are either downright incompetent and shouldn't be officiating at the highest level or they are cheats.

The commentators are a bunch of cowards, too scared to be honest while doing their jobs.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #32 Tom Sparrow

The rugged Sparrow’s career appears to have plateaued in recent years. He makes the side on a week to week basis but he is unable to establish a foothold in the team’s midfield and arguably performs best outside of the contest in a forward position without being a goal kicker. He remains a good honest foot soldier but is not a star.

Fullarton managed a couple of games in the first half of the season but soon found himself back in the VFL. There, he found a niche at centre half back but it was not enough to retain a place on the list at season’s end.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #35 Harrison Petty

Entering 2025, it looked as if Petty would be secured in a defensive position, but plans shifted and he spent more time forward, averaging just over a goal per game throughout the season. It remains uncertain which area of the ground he will be expected to cover under the new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The dynamic small forward, possessing an innate ability to generate excitement with his explosive play around the goals, successfully transitioned into a role that afforded him more time in the midfield. The club also negotiated a long-term deal with Pickett, thereby eliminating any prospect of a move west by their star young player.

For a few years now, he has been a reliable, hard working pressure forward, but in 2025, Chandler elevated his performance, becoming an integral component of the team with enough versatility to play effectively on a wing from time to time.
