It looks to me in the last couple of weeks the umpires have been directed to put the whistle away.  I don't mind it, the game was being over officiated and the umps seemed to feel the need to make a decision in every contest.  Fans were getting really sick of it.  I think it is annoying how the AFL just don't come out and say it, they are loathe to ever make comment that could be seen as admitting they were wrong.

Also, that Mitch Brown blocking free was as bad as I've seen.

The umpiring was criminal all night. Biased to the Crows.  It was 23-9 but also so many missed free kicks for us.

We have highlighted the Walker free … it was unbelievable.  I think they called play on then the free kick.

Oliver was hammered and two umps missed it … somehow.   Oliver was scrapped by Berry all night and got nothing. He was held without the footy and not given one free.

Keays free in the last (and goal) was another.  They didn’t pay holding the ball for most of the night.  It was a dog fight.  Then 15 metrs out from Crows goal , Brayshaw gets pinged.  I almost smashed the Tv.

And frees to Doedee and O’Brien were actually met with surprise by them. Maybe chopping arms but that happened over and over again.

BBB was smashed in the arms at every contest.

Fritsch was held by one arm by Butts and didn’t receive one free kick.

I agree the commentary is rubbish. Hudson and Dunstall and Ruccuito were clearly barracking for the Crows. They seemingly never questioned a decision (just thd Oliver one).   Then they gave us plaudits once MFC had the game won.

Clearly the home town crowd noise had an influence.  We had to beat the Crows and the umps !!  And we did … Go Dees

Average town, low grade team, third grade umpiring.

We wont be back for a year.

Thanks for nothing.

I'm with you big time Superunknown, and did the same.

But secondly, the other turn-off was the Commentary. Why does Ch 7 persisit with a Crows Football Director as a special comments boundary rider in Riccuito.? Useless.

Huddo, and the sheer brilliance of Clarry and Trac and team were the only worthwhile resason to watch live.

I caught up the second half replay later.

Bring on streaming, more kayo quality shows, etc etc.  ...and so long Ch 7. They are so down-market  and immature in their talent (except Daisy of course)

Another poster on here noted the quality of umpiring was tops in the GF last year.  It was , and gee it shows the gaps betwen the best the AFL has in this department and the others that are making up the numbers.

I would normally agree with those who say we shouldn’t whinge about poor umpiring but we’re due to play Geelong at Kardinia Park in 5 day’s time and the crowd will be just as partisan as the one we had at Adelaide Oval. A quiet word from Goody to the umpires advisor asking him to look at the adjudication won’t hurt. And yes, it’s the clash of the top two teams so we can expect some competent umpires to run the show.

The best thing about the umpiring is that Adelaide STILL LOST. This is despite the umpires best efforts to get them a win in front of their feral home crowd. (Which happened last season)

Great work Dees, we beat the team, the feral crowd and the UMPIRES.

It really was a genuinely pathetic display of umpiring and why they are not liked at all.

The decision to award walker a free kick against Brown in the ruck contest for BLOCKING when walker clearing hit Brown high with a knee to the face is one of many examples of poor decision making from the umps

It should be investigated to explain why the decisions were made but the AFL will do nothing which doesn’t surprise any of us Dees supporters.

Those umps should NEVER umpire a Melb game in Adelaide again.

Riccuito is on Fox. Also home of Derwayne.

I'm actually happy we are on 7 on Thursday. The barracking on Fox is nauseating.

To those that say "we won, get over the umpiring", I say there is nothing wrong with discussing any and all aspects of a game.  When the umpiring is egregious, it is likely to figure prominently in people's comments on the game.  Why not? We don't have to prove how morally superior we are by chosing to overlook it.

Furthermore when you can only see a match on TV, there is a lot you cannot see and therefore can't reasonably discuss, but the umpiring usuallly stands out.  It has been pretty bad so far this weekend.  So it will be commented on. To quote those who say "get over it", I say, get over people commenting on it.

The Brayshaw holding decision was because he dragged the ball back in yet it was clearly the crows player that toe kicked the ball under Brayshaw.

If the ump department review this game, they will de register these three.

Im watching the second half (missed the second half live) and I’m not one to usually speak about them. And it’s not what they gave them, it’s what they didn’t pay. And the most obvious ones. Oliver hit, langers block, Fogarty jumping into petty trying for mark of the year and getting no where near it. Huge throw by Laird.

It was as putrid as the umps against tigers last week.

Surprise, umpire 20, who I don’t think paid a single Dees free, is an SANFL umpire with little AFL experience, having one AFL game before this year. Jamie Broadbent.

Umpire 31 Paul Rebeschini had 8 AFL games before this year.

Both would have been affected by crowd.

I was very happy with the win because we overcame a lot. The umpiring was very one sided. I think I read we got 3 free kicks in total after quarter time. In the last 3 quarters of the match for every free we got the Crows got over 5.

Having said all of that we absolutely demolished them around the ground in the 3rd quarter - and didn’t put them away. Bedford and Spargo missed absolute sitters. We are an experienced team, and we’d only have ourselves to blame if we didn’t get the job done.

You know you’re going to get one sided umpires in Adelaide, it’s what makes the win more important. They showed last years last quarter before last nights game and it was laughably biased umpiring.

The other, Donlon, has umpired over 300 games. Yet his last grand final was back in 2011, there’s a good reason why that is.

I still can't believe what I saw yesterday evening. 2 years in a row we have gone over there and been crucified by abysmal umpiring. And what happens next week, we play Selwood at kryptonite park.

We do this every single year, complain about the umpires.  Everyone make mistakes at work so how can we expect the umpires to be any different? They make mistakes and will continue to do so in the future just like everyone else.  Why can't people just accept it and move on?

They are not mistakes, mistakes would imply some level of balancing out over the course of the game or the odd one here or there. It is either being way too influenced by partisan/parochial crowds or just downright cheating. Either way it is unacceptable.

If I made as many "mistakes" on my job as these clowns do I would have been sacked a decade ago.

    PODCAST: Jason Taylor Interview

I'm interviewing the Melbourne Football Club Recruitment Manager Jason Taylor early next week on the Demonland Podcast. I'll be asking him about moving up the draft order, our new recruits (both Draftees and Trades), Daniel Curtin, our recent recruits who have yet to play a senior game, who he thinks will be the next Judd McVee and more. If you have any further questions let me know below and I'll see if I can squeeze them in. I will release the podcast either Monday or Tuesday.

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE by Meggs

It was a hot afternoon at IKON where the ferocious Cats came to play, had read the manual on how to beat us and the Demons were unable to match them for the first three quarters.     With physical pressure, they took the game on with relative ease and though our resistance seemed better than the previous two weeks it was still not good enough.     Within the opening minute, Kate Hore marks within range, but her shot was a miss-kick, like a fat iron, and it kinda set a flat tone f

    TURNAROUND by Meggs

Following successive comprehensive defeats by fellow Top Four heavyweights the Demons play down a division this Sunday against the highly promising Cats.     Strangely, no games against the Cats for five seasons and now we play them twice in one season.     With the blueprint on how to defeat the Dees available on the dark web the real question is, will we crumble again under the finals pressure cooker or will we rediscover our #DemonSpirit and execute a turnaround?   Mak

THE SECRET IS OUT by Meggs

We were expecting that after last week’s comprehensive defeat by Brisbane, our coach Mick Stinear would have his charges coming out breathing finals fire. Instead, it was North who had the aggression, the numbers, who blocked our scoring avenues and rendered us impotent, unable to match the Kangas during any phase of the match.   Darren Crocker, the North coach, later highlighted that how to beat Melbourne is no secret following recent losses to Adelaide and Brisbane and now North.

CATCH EM ON THE HOP by Meggs

A sunny Sunday afternoon feast of finals footy awaits at our team’s favourite home ground, Ikon Park.  Great vibes at Princes Park where we remain undefeated from 7 matches and counting. Expect the Dees to come out strongly, sparring and outmuscling the Kangaroos in the middle.  With Paxy back firing and our gun forwards mesmerising, hopefully we catch ‘em on the hop. Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane have filled ten of the twelve Grand Final spots in AFLW history, and this dominance

    COLD AGGRESSION by Meggs

“Cold aggression”, Lions star full forward Dakota Davidson called it. Brisbane outmuscled, outran, and ultimately overwhelmed us. They certainly came to play and exorcised their 2022 grand final grudge defeating the Demons in the rematch by 25 points. Stats count and Brisbane won the key ones. Inside 50s 42 to 24, centre clearances 8 to 6, uncontested possessions 133 to 75 and 51 marks to 27. The Lions’ sustained pressure is the kind we usually bring for other teams.   There

    WICKED WIND by Meggs

Hang out to your hats. The strong blustery conditions made it extremely difficult for either team to execute footy skills but nonetheless an entertaining match ensured for those brave enough to venture down to Casey Fields on Saturday. Impressive Irish player Aine Tighe was a late withdrawal for Freo. Maddie Gay was also a late change, and she was replaced with 19 year-old Georgia Gall, the 6-foot ex Melbourne Stars BBL cricketer who has been impressing the coaches in scrimmage games.
