Can’t believe it they made the call on T Mac didn’t think he would get the chop. Well the side is more even with him out so Smith for Lever, Dunstan for Viney and Brown for McDonald makes sense

Lucky you didn't bet the house on it 'WERRIDEE'...

Brown > McDonald

Dunstan & Smith < Viney & Lever

...but the side retains a sense of balance.

Good luck to Luke Dunstan

TMac was fantastic for us last year but can;t have any complaints about his omission. Hopefully he can find some form in the VFL and be ready to return should the Weid underwhelm (not an outside possibility)

Good to see Weideman getting another go. If his issues are primarily confidence, having the support of the selectors would do him no harm.

Also Smith ahead of Tomlinson. If he has a decent game there'll be a selection headache for the following week when Lever returns.

Like many on here, I thought Weid would go before Tmac.

His moment has now  arrived ........ hope he hangs onto those marks.

If Dunstan plays at his best he will be an adequate replacement for Viney.

May will be backline general again - so no problems down there.

Having watched those VFL games he's played he's cooked mate.

Fumbles, got caught with the ball at times and lazy with his defensive ability.

The likes of Chandler, Bedford, Laurie are ahead of him in terms of forms from the VFL games I've seen.

Good balanced changes considering we never want to be without Lever or Viney.
Massive chance for Dunstan. He would want to have a bloody good game if he’s to displace one of our other mids, which can only be a good thing.
I imagine it won’t be smooth sailing and it might take a half for him to settle in.

Tigers are missing Dusty and Grimes which just about equals us missing Viney and Lever.

Goodwin clearly said we wouldn’t play all three of Brown, TMac and Weid. Selection committee believe Weid has performed better than TMac since coming in and I agree. Therefore TMac is out and will need to earn his place back from Weid again. It’s healthy to have these players pushing each other to perform for selection.

We’ve gone like for like so we don’t change our structure at all. Dunstan in for Viney is like for like. Smith for Lever is like for like, albeit both replacements are less capable players, but great depth nonetheless.

Should be a good win on Sunday night. Looking forward to being in the big crowd at night with the pregame stuff too.

Well, there it is. TMac loses his spot to Brown (but really, he lost it to Weideman).

As for Dunstan getting Viney's spot, makes sense and is precisely why we got Dunstan in as depth. Hope he does well, but you'd think he'd have to be utterly dominant to avoid not making way for Viney the following week.

I reckon Smith over Tomlinson for Lever's spot makes sense. Tomlinson's in more direct competition with Petty and May, being the defenders who stay further back and get more of the "power" forwards. Smith covers Lever's intercepting role better.

Hope Weid has a good game , but he needs to show he can play consistently at this level. People forget he was given a block of 5 games last year and pretty much got consistently worse until he was banished after the QB game.

Time to re-watch 'Show Me the Money". Dunstan's reaction when his manager told him Tim Lamb had called is priceless.

Even though you're on minimum chips, play like your future depends on it son. Because it does.

Good luck.

I got it wrong about Tmac.

Well done to those that got it right.

I'm not convinced by Weed - but i am convinced that there is no way he gets selected this week if he was not meeting the coaches' expectations re: work rate and intensity.

Well done Weed - i hope he grabs his opportunity with both hands.

I’m excited now. Excited for Weid as I’ve been a backer, and this will be the first time he’s had the chance to properly operate in tandem with Brown.

Looking forward to seeing what Dunstan brings. Hopefully he causes a very hard decision to be made when Viney is back next week.

It's funny, my reading of those comments were, Sam that's what you need to keep doing - that's tbe standard of contest.

And when you go back to Casey keep focusing on those things - don't get down, you're on the right track.

Pin this post.

Tmac hasn't fired a shot for too long now and Weed deserves another crack after tonight.

I'll leave this here.

Oracle Steve signing out.

Weid gets to good positions but needs to hang onto more marks. Playing up the ground a bit more (and BBB more from the goal square) i think will suit Weid. Gets him involved in the game, takes the pressure off him to kick a bag. If he increases goal assists, who cares who kicks them. 10 goals from different players in the 3rd last week illustrates this

Happy that the club put faith in him and dropped Tmac. Will put a rocket up both of them

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
