Supreme_Demon 4,144 Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 (edited) Sorry but I gotta put in my 3 word comment for Sam Weideman. Disappointing effort tonight. After last week kicking 4 goals against Essendon I held high hopes he would contribute. I barely noticed him tonight. Edited April 7, 2022 by Supreme_Demon 1 1 Quote
dee-tox 4,835 Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 May - Rock solid defence Harmes - Hard running + goals Petracca - 48% disposal efficiency? Jackson - Marks both ends Viney - Effective at clearances Lever - Quiet first game Spargo - Played his role Brayshaw - Solid and effective Gawn - Back in town Oliver - Not his best Langdon - One of our best Bowey - Much quieter tonight Tomlinson - Very, very quiet Jordon - Career best game? Rivers - Doesn't look 100% TMac - Hardly sighted Weide - Well blanketed Hunt - Bright start, faded ANB - Played his role Fritta - Leading goalkicker + chasing Sparrow - Some good clearances Kozzie - Only little glimpses 13 1 Quote

mauriesy 7,444 Posted April 8, 2022 Posted April 8, 2022 Great, so we sucked the life out of Port like dementors, and half the team were quiet and not at their best? The only way is up! ☺️ 4 1 Quote

IF Brown and Weid play well what happens to Tmac? Bad for trust if he’s kept out then. Must be dropped on form, injury or team structure requirements. Management is only a temporary rest. That's fine whatever you want to call it, my point is Weid stays in next week if you don't want to destroy him. 1 Quote

Willmoy1947 4,261 Posted April 8, 2022 Posted April 8, 2022 Weideman drew a lot of attention from a spruced up backline of Port. Two multiple goal kickers in our forward half. 3 Quote
tiers 2,883 Posted April 8, 2022 Posted April 8, 2022 Are we mishandling Weid? For some reason he is never the prime target as BBB is and other times gets displaced by Maxie or dogga. Is it time for Weid to be given the chance one out against his defender and become the main target? Now that he has played to his known form, maybe Maxie could use a rest. We don't want to overuse him. 1 1 Quote

We don't want to overuse him. Right there is your problem - nobody knows what he can consistently deliver because even when he has given consecutive games he failed to lock down a position - so we really have no clear idea what his "known form" is I'm not saying he doesn't deserve another crack next week just that we should not be reconfiguring our whole forward structure around him - he needs to find a way to work with any structure , any week My personal view is that he looks a significantly better player when allowed to run onto the ball (leading with space in front) - he is very easily pushed aside by key defenders and is never going to succeed relying on contested marking. If there is away to free up that space without compromising the ability of other forwards to contribute then great. Fritta seems to be able to make this work with astute timing for his leads and clever positioning around the drop of the ball. One of the big challenges for Sam is to ensure that each time he takes the field he walks off having made a meaningful contribution as is the case with the whole squad. This doesn't always have to be measured on goals kicked but the gap between Sam's better games and poorer performances remains significant 5 Quote
