Too many dropped marks in defence led to goals. Got to hold ’em!

I reckon BBB and Weid will both play key forwards in future and Tmac will start on the bench and be the swingman for key positions forward and back and Wing. Great position to be in and gives us ultimate flexibility. 
 

interesting to note that in an interview recently Tmac reminded everyone about his credentials as a key back. Whether this was securing his position or not, it means that he is happy playing both forward and back and provides us with considerable gameday flexibility.

Brayshaw was in the backline (playing the Salem role?) If you watch the replay after the Bombers kick a couple of goals in the 3rd quarter he's in the defenders huddle.

They will think they are good because they pushed us a little when in reality they turn the ball over far too much to be a flag threat.

On the lead he looks the goods, in a contested situation he still looks terrible. The Dons defence is really good at the body push, the chest into the back and drove the player forward and they convincingly out positioned Weid and pushed him under the flight of the back. BBB is needed back to allow Woes to play to his strength which is as a lead up fwd, that is his skill. Let’s use it to get the best out of him and for the team. Get his straight on goal kicking right/his confidence going and he is a different prospect for teams to worry about.

PS why the hell do you take him off in the first qrt after his goal?! He was really up and about, it just lost all momentum for him and the team.

Agree. This has to be looked at. You have a bloke who has taken a few marks and kicked a goal in his game back to try and kickstart his career and then you completely stop his and the team’s momentum.

Or Charlie Spargo... didn't even acknowledge anyone really as he drilled his from 40...(old mate can't kick to far eh? #charliemyths) just kept running in an arc to the boundary line and onwards to the bench! It's a rare occasion he cracks a smile... all about the business!

The one thing I hate about modern football are statisticians running the resting of players after they kick a goal and not seeing that this player is hot and should be left on the field to take advantage of their form not sitting on the pine.

In the GF I believe that Burgess decided to take the reins of the player movement and guess what!

The statisticians only look at GPS numbers not watching the play and getting a feel for the games ebb and flow.

When I was at the MFC I told a statistician there is only 1 stat that counts and thats the result on the scoreboard but he argued with me because he had the football IQ of a gnat since he did not understand the game only numbers.

If Tmac's role is to make a contest if he can't mark it, then he failed dismally. Bombers defenders outmarked him on about 5 occasions, and rarely did Tmac bring the ball to ground. The problem is that Weid hasn't shown that he can play this role.

If available, BBB has to play. If Lever is available, then T Mac becomes sub, and Tomlinson is omitted.

I'll think you'll find 'statisticians' only role is to to monitor time and distance of each player in order to keep the person in the Burgess role informed about loading.

Burgess, and his equivalent, at every club design the schedule for TOG percentages, time on ball and rotations. And are in almost complete charge of it (save some negotiation with the head coach).

In the gf burgo went away from HIS OWN plan to give more time to Jackson.

The person on the laptop is not a decision maker. Their job is to provide the person in the burgo role with exact, real time information (and obviously the coaches all the key data they need).

Apologies if this has been mentioned already, heard on ‘The Round So Far’ Essendon were -76 on turnovers on Friday night. Talk about punishing a team when they give you the ball back.

pF Nathan Brown did the summary and spoke about Peter Wright and how he could improve his positioning around the ground, blah, blah, Blah. No mention of Gus, Clarry or Langdon. Then awarded the votes  Clayton - 9, Gus - 8, Wright - 8 and Langdon - 8. Did not mention Melbourne or Weid in any sentence.GggRrrr.!!!!

 

Boss would tell me in the seventies - best time to sell a car? 
straight after you’ve sold one. 
 

If they have to rotate after a goal, make it “the next” goal. 
Unless they kick that one as well.

I noticed the Bummers didn’t take Wright off after goals, and it paid dividends.

4 min into the game, and the Weed has 2 good contested marks. Off he goes to the bench. He couldn’t be tired after 4 min.

If the ball came forward fast again, he was likely to mark again.

He cooled down and lost his momentum temporarily.

I think this is one tactic where we could gain an edge over most other sides…….NEVER take a player off when he gets a goal.

Conventional wisdom amongst AFL  sides is that you do replace players after a goal. The pert commentators on tv and radio all agree it’s a bad idea. They should know something. Most are past experienced players or coaches.

It is clearly by design, certain players after each goal looked directly to the bench to the sign they hold up showing the number of the players to come off. I was flabbergasted when Weiss number came up and off he went, Dogga come on in his place so assume it was then Gawn to the fwd line for Dogga into the Ruck but let Weid build as he started well.

I reckon this would be the best way to handle this. 

 

Must be some sort of a record for a Dees supporter, in my part of the world we had beaten the Cheats twice and the women’s team was though to the GF before I had finished breakfast on Saturday morning. 3-0... good way to start the weekend.

That's probably a bit unfair on the statisticians. 

They no doubt do lots more than just provide data to the fitness and coaching teams.

For example, they have to find a way to measure and record team specific kpis set by the coaches (eg role specific data) and build and maintain the data system
