Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Don't agree Living in SEQ when last week in Melb for the GF Replay  it seemed  more humid than in Qld.

Seems like Climate  Change is occurring before our eyes. Some Victorian friends have remarked on the humidity this summer in Melbourne!
My T shirt and Polo were soaked wet by the time I walked from MCG to my City Hotel.!!

Ha ha that’s because our weather was coming from North rather than South West.!!

All the talk it seems is around dreadful Essendon and Port. And how wonderful C'wood and Hawks are. Nary a mention of the Mighty Demons. We get to fly under the radar for a second week.

I reckon part of it is our predicable game style is a bit boring for non dees supporters.

And the predictability males it hard to come up with anything new and/or interesting to opine.

I mean how often can you say the dees set up so well ahead/behind the ball or we are hard to ay against.

TBH I'm pretty happy with the way we are perceived now. We are the benchmark, we'll have to do something pretty spectacularly bad or good to get the spotlight. Other teams like Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon (for different reasons) will get the spotlight for their changing fortunes (both positive and negative). 'Still Awesome' is not a great headline.

We will get plenty of headlines when someone beats us though, you can take that to the bank.

Dermott and our own Garry often make the same kind of "expert comments". Difference is Garry makes his point in ten words whereas after ten sentences Dermott is still getting to the point.

Dermott is the worst! He delivers every “expert comment” as though it’s the single most profound thing you’ll ever hear from any commentator ever. Dude’s got tickets on himself.

Agree.

And to boot he keeps crappimg on when the ball is in play.

They missed calling Jackson's goal as it happened coz dermot was blathering away about something.

That said, healy wasn't far behind in the waffle AND incomprehensible stakes - which is weird because he was never that bad i thought.

That was the worst commentary I have ever heard in a footy game - and for me, that is seriously saying something.

I found myself getting angry at all 3 clallers, particularly healy and breteton. It really affected my enjoyment of the game.

Not only did they not actually call the game, they were frequently dead wrong with their comments and analysis.

It was embarrassing

It was the worst possible commentary team you could have.

Dwayne Russell - is incredibly biased towards certain sides and makes up ridiculous sayings thinking he is Dennis Commetti

Derm - just rambles constantly and hardly ever makes sense with what he is saying.

Healy - is way past it as a commentator

I'm with you. More than happy to just cruise along picking up the wins at this stage rather than seek attention.

No team seeks attention... the journalist/pundits sell the narrative. We've just got a 'boring' narrative that won't get clicks/sell papers. Long may we continue to have our little 4-6 goals wins.

Mind you a narrative that could be written is, about our depth and how that interplays with having 5-6 of our best defenders out!

Not trying to pick on you !😍

It was pretty poor wasn't it. I don't necessarily hate those commentators with a passion or anything but I thought they were well below par on Sat night.

I'm also finding that commentators seem to be looking for free kicks more often than I am when watching. Even moments where there was a little dicey contact but you were glad they were letting it go you'd hear Dwayne saying there might have been 2 free kicks in the 2 second passage of play. These are usually the people that are sick of too many free kicks and want the game to flow yet here they are calling out fair non-calls.

No of course not EO but a lot of fans do eg. " Why aren't they talking about us?" "Why aren't we getting credit for xyz" "What did Collingwood do that we didn't?" etc. It seems to really bother them if we aren't getting limelight.

Definitely agree on the narrative stuff, if I had a paper company I'd write on that stuff as well.

I think Tom’s role is to get to as many contests and ensure it doesn’t get marked by the opposition, although I think he was in the bottom rung of players he did provide that element all night. It’s frustrating that he doesn’t even seem to be going for the mark anymore, it’s just about crashing the pack.

As I said in an earlier post, Weid has to take the opportunity now and make it impossible for him to not be picked. It’s Tom’s position to lose but Weid has to make a statement to force him out.

I think your right, its just that a few times BBB and/or others were also attempting to mark.

I love his endurance and he was geart back in defence to stabilise when Salem wnet down in Rd 1. but.......

On the topic of the margin, and not scoring much in the last quarter or so, a mate made these really good points:

Just after the beginning of the third qtr, we had 10.1, then we reverted to type and finished with 12.10.

And at least 3 of those 5 points in the last were easy shots

We actually had more scoring shots in the 2nd half (12-10).

It's funny, good conversion often is interpreted as playing well, bad conversion - playing badly.

And yet a lot of the times the only difference is just that - conversion.

Which can be quite random at AFL level - you might miss by a half a metre or hit the post - the next time you might squeak one in.

We all know that Brereton/Dwayne/Healy/BT and the rest are terrible commentators.  No arguments there.

Why then do highly intelligent people (ie. Demon fans) make a conscious decision to listen to them when they have the option of pressing the mute button?

Further, what do people who choose to listen to these clowns think is being achieved by clogging up threads with their constant whining about the standard of commentary?

Nobody is forcing you to listen.  It's your decision.

100%. the mute button is your friend

On a positive note I think Jonesey has acquitted himself very well so far and Nathan Buckley is very insightful about the game. Solid additions to the commentariat

But the Dees aren't the story either.

The stories of interest are cripps pies daicos bros. Max king bombets etc.

Maybe now jackson and bowey.

To a man the commentariat last weekend uses words about the dees such as flag favourites

Competition benchmark

And whately said dees are best team . Then daylight second.

Over exposure can only end in tears early on.

I can't speak for others, but I can't watch the footy without sound.

I've tried muting, and it simply doesn't work for me. It feels as if I'm watching it in an air lock.

It's not just the crowd noise, it's all the other ambient noise, not least the ball being kicked.

I've also tried turning the volume down and listening to a radio feed. That is better than no sound, but only just. It always falls out of sync and the sound is variable.

But good to know muting works for you.

Agree

Each to their own I guess but good commentators can actually add to the atmosphere - The "Bang, Bang Bang" after Oliver's goal in the GF will stay with all of us as a cherished memory for ever I suspect - sound off at that moment I think we lose something

Just my opinion of course

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
