Not sure if you are aware but Covid has played a significant impact in this..

How many kids do you reckon were there during lockdown?

So, you're suggesting that perhaps less than 6 months, before a ball has even been bounced, is a little too early to judge then?

Well I never.

Definitely.  I think it was Chou En Lai, when asked of the success of the French Revolution said it was too early to tell*....so 6 months is way to early.

Now going back to the 5 Year Rule, any success of the MFC cannot be attributed to eg G Pert because he did not join the club until um June 2018.  Seems harsh so perhaps we should go on a proportional basis, and we rate him at 50%.  The question is then who do we allocate the other 50% to.

* Obviously misheard the French revolution for the Cultural Rev but the translators liked the quote so much they never corrected it.

Yes I am aware that schools are finally opening up Bash.. I am talking as a whole for the past 18 months which you are pretty much referring too.

You're not going to get a rush of AFL players into schools for a while if not any this year.

The risk on player's now catching covid will be significant and clubs will still be putting restrictions on player's being put and about in the community.

Perhaps too well.  Most of the items I want to purchase more of are no longer for sale at the demons shop so I will have to go to the AFL shop.

Pretty sure it was all to do with their launch of their own brand 'side by side' which they didn't have to pay royalties to the AFL

Do you guys not understand these numbers and where they come from?

I’m talking about going forward from the flag and what the club as a whole is doing to sustain this.

So you mean like the club being stable off field? All stars signed up and the club being set up for a period of sustained success for the first time in 60 years?

its going well I’d say!

merch has been flying out the door and we again have very few injuries.

Happy Days!

I believe we should be doing a lot more to bring in new members mainly young. Whatever happened to football clinics ,school and otherwise.

Covid happened.
Up until recently parents weren’t even allowed on school grounds let alone footballers.
Not to mention I don’t want one of our players missing a game because a germy little snotball gave them Covid.

AFL Premiers the Melbourne Demons have advised that they increase sponsorship and corporate hospitality revenue by more than 40% ($2.4 million) during the 2021 season, with sponsorship revenue ending the year at $7.9 million.

AFL Premiers Melbourne welcome $2.4 million sponsorship increase

Lol.

As a matter of interest, does anyone know whether our sponsorship deals include success payments? In other words, do our sponsorship arrangements require sponsors to cough up more as part of their contract because we won the Premiership?

hey hey hey NOW!! I've got 2 little snotballs and I take offen... nope you nailed it! Actually they've had maybe 1 cold each in the last 2 years because the flu/colds/gastro haven't been passed around since we all moved to the home office and started wearing masks.

I'm pretty sure in a DL podcast a few years ago either Jackson or Roos said they do.  Presumably that practice would have continued during Pert's reign.

My germy little snotball gave me Covid...still love her!

It helps that she's a 14-year member and hasn't turned 13 yet!

It would be strange not to have multiple kickers in a sponsorship deal.

Finals is an easy one as it's 2-3 weeks of extra prime time exposure for the sponsor.

They could also have crowd attendance targets which would not have been met in 2020/21.

Would not be surprised if membership figures is not another target

Pert was CEO for the Pies last flag when they lost c$1.5m on merchandise after miscalculating demand,

Let's hope he learned his lesson

To be fair, their supporters probably couldn’t afford to buy the merchandise.

I'm in the it is 'too early to judge' camp.

Some ways we will capitalise on our premiership:

  • Membership is growing.
  • We should expect our gate takings to go through the roof, even without the ANZAC Eve and QB game this year, as more dee fans come to games.  And opp fans will come if they expect to see a good game, which they will.
  • We have been rewarded with Home games vs the Big clubs at the G this year:  Ess (when was the last time that happened...), Collingwood, Carlton and Hawthorn.
  • Merchandising will continue to sell well.

If we play PF and GF for the next 5 years watch all those numbers grow.  We will have capitalised on our success.

It is more the medium term that I wonder about.  Even tho we don't have any info of what, when and where of our new facilities, I would like to know the club has a plan for:  funding, community use of the facilities, support of important social issues.  Someone mentioned 'Reach'.  Great idea.  True connection to our past not something adopted for the sake of looking to have a social conscience.  If the club needs member funding start the fundraising now!  No better time to cash in on our success.  And, I hope they have started looking for naming rights sponsors etc etc.

Such a plan need not be a secret nor wait for a government announcement, which seems to be the reason we don't know where the facility will be.  Maybe after the season is on the way, the premiership glow subsides we will hear what the plan is for funding and use of the facilities.

I’m not interested in winning 1, then back to obscurity for 57 years. You don’t want a sustained period of success?

I don’t understand the blind faith.
Why are so many afraid to have a conversation?

Just relax and enjoy the dream. You are wasting happy days being unhappy. After the journey we have been on, the offseason following our first flag in most of our life times should be enjoyed. No one needs an angry hot headed gremlin picking blues. Not here anyway. Mature conversation is good but mate you come across as unnecessarily antagonistic. No one wants to hear your rubbish. Not now anyway. These 6 months have been nirvana for everyone here. Well, almost everyone

You leave the Collingwood supporters alone.

They've already demonstrated their willingness to do what they can for the poor flood victims in Northern NSW by sending up two busloads of looters.

Who said I’m unhappy?

Obviously though, the answer to my question is - yes, we are doing enough for most.

Time will tell on this thread.

So why did you start this time-wasting thread?

Thrown some provocative statements out there, not even a general clue to what the issues are to which you allude, despite many queries on here from posters for you to do so.

No specifics, just innuendo   ..... finsihing up with ' time will tell..'

Sheeeesh.

For those not clever enough to read between the lines, clearly I have information that I’m not willing to divulge, but it appears most will only find out after the fact. If you ever realise at all, I guess. Maybe I expected too much in the way of others knowing these details and being able to tease them out.

It’s also clear that there aren’t many willing to play devil’s advocate or objectively ask questions. The general response is that this is an attack on the club & must be defended. Winning a flag papers over a myriad of sins.

If you know then most probably the club knows of these "issues", if they are that significant why hasn't he been sacked?

I am sorry @Mach5 but this thread is the kind of thread that you would eviscerate yourself, to the point of getting a warning.

You have allusions to knowledge, a known issue with Pert and the hiring thereof, and multiple posts claiming we are the ostriches with our head in the ground for not listening to the information you won’t divulge…

What are we doing here?

I have lots of inside information as well

But i'm not sharing it either

You're all welcome

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
