Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Non members fo not get first option on tickets to Finals  ( first 3 finals games not GFinal) but the usual ration of tickets up to 8 or 10 for Members I think allows tickets to be bought for non members ( Correct me if I am wrong there as I never have bought other than for members.

Non members have to purchase when GAdmission  tickets are on sale generally the next day.

GF tickets are dominated by our GFG and then a ballot I think of members without the GFG, for  the remaining allocation. The previous paragraph then is played out if any are remaining.

Seems to me it would be easy to monitor the usage of Members tickets to keep a record for priority by the  club for allocation in order.

You misunderstood my post.  "scrambling at the same designated time" meant at the time Ticketek make tickets available for each group. ie  Members will be scrambling for tickets at the same time as other members.  Non-members will be scrambling for tickets at the same time as other non-members, for the first 3 weeks of finals.

That is the way it is for all ticket sales even H & A:  Tickets for members are available before ticket sales for non-members.

I fully understand how GFG and ticket sales work!

For the club ticket allocation, there is no ballot for GF tickets.

If there are any GF tickets left after the GFG (Priority 1) allocation they are available for Priority 2, then Priority 3 etc members until the allocation is exhausted.

Whatever priority GF a member is, they still have to 'scramble' via Ticketek to buy the tickets with other members in that priority group.

p.s. there were 10,250 public tickets at the smaller optus oval last year, so it's a substantial number

That was because McGowan locked out the east coast club, AFL, MCC members and sponsors.

GF public tickets don't happen at the G.

yeah, i suppose last year was a special case

i do remember in the past there was a sort of auction for the public (smallish number available) but that disappeared (don't remember when)

I've had a GFG membership for more than 20 years. As far as I know all clubs have a limit on how many GFG's they can sell. I'd think it would be a flat number eg 6k. Clubs must have a certain number of GF tickets available to their general members. I would doubt that clubs would differentiate ie there's just 2 groups - GFG members and 'ordinary' members. Things may be slightly different now that all sales are online.

There are definitely priority groups and I know that Richmond in 2017 prioritised members who had been members for longer periods of consecutive years.

Today at the game North declared they were closing in on 50,000 members. Why as Premiers can we only have 60,000 members. North bottom down the ladder and yet still can achieve 50,000 members. What is holding us back. MCC Members not taking up memberships?

That’s part of it - also memberships are not equatable anymore - some packages are 2 for 1 or for $50. We even had a 6 games for $66 membership a few weeks ago.

They’re meaningless numbers now.

I have heard we are in a good spot financially from our 60k members…

They also had 300 people turn up and would have lost a mountain of cash turning the lights on at Marvel. So meh.

Surely a lot of pet memberships, 2x1 or 3x1 memberships in those NM numbers. C'mon how else can you explain a cellar dweller having more members than a finals contender (Bulldogs).

Not bothered what other Clubs do. We keep winning and people will want to watch us. Kids will wear Demon Gear and become long term supporters and Members and The MCC will continue to be mostly MFC People

Nought will wither and die

The one that really gets me is GWS claiming 30K+ members. Looking at todays attendance I would be surprised if 4-5K were GWS supporters. AFL must count the "freebies" they have given out. With a club like Melbourne, starting this game  back in 1858 and only having 60K+ just makes a mockery of membership numbers.

Afl counts all the club freebies.  It is the biggest chest beating number to afl has.

From this time last year to the cutoff on 31 July we had an extra 4404 members. So if we match that rate we'll crack the 65,000. However, for whatever reason there was a jump of 1301 in this corresponding week last year which accounted for a substantial jump in the memberships.

What is the monthly average this season so far? I reckon that would be a more reliable forecast.

You can look at the table at the start of this OP. It's not relevant as there are so many fluctuations month by month. There are a lot of automatic renewals at the end of the previous year, then various catalysts for membership bursts caused by various events. There's no consistency to it.

Because we were terrible for 57 years! One premiership doesn't automatically bring in 30,000 new members. We need sustained success, continued finals appearances and then we will see strong membership growth each year.

And to be fair North only have 46,000 members. Still 15,000 behind us.

Rang the club about a week ago.  All GFG tickets have been sold.  Was a bit slow due to lots of bias.  Whether that means non priority 2 membership will get a look in I don't know? But the family has 6 priority 2 membership with long memberships.  Hopefully that will make a difference :). There has been a trend of giving more tickets to the clubs at GF's but its still pretty low compared to the total crowd. Then the trick will be getting a affordable flight from Perth at short notice.

Improving only by 3-400 each week, much the same as past years.

Truly amazing given our demographic. I see we are offering different packages now which might get us to 65000.

65000 would be remarkable.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
