Come on BoBo he has played 177 games and kicked 5 or more 7 times

Yep he is very dangerous and a quality small forward but this might be a slight overreach (less than 4% of games)

Huh, well there you go! I'm shocked it's that few amount of games. I reckon by pure chance I've seen 3-4 of those 5 goal games as I had it in my head as a certainty that he does it much more frequently than what you've pointed out. Thanks for the correction.

Such a rapid improvement since last year’s VFL grand final,  where out of all our untried youngsters at that point he would have been right down the list of most likely to make an impact at AFL less than 6 months later.

Great spotting by many of the track watchers who quickly alerted DL that he had taken a giant leap forward into selection contention. Huge credit to him of course too. Rookie selections that turn into AFL standard players are like striking gold.

I can see him getting Charlie Cameron this week which is equal parts exciting and terrifying

He should just stick to his right foot, Charlie has no left (spends too much time trying to perfect his motorbike technique instead of his left foot technique).

How good is this kid so silky and assured, gets through traffic and delivers well, reckon he's going to be an absolute gun. Has some of the traits of a former player, can't quite remember his name, used to wear number 2.

Yes I know early days.

You realise he is still a kid when you see him sitting next to Hibbo and Salem.

Also May told him he wouldnt be able to hear anything so swivel your head.  Good advice.  (probs explains why Maynard didnt hear Smith coming)

Well done.

I'm about to chuck a tanty.  How the hell was McVee not nominated for Rising Star this round based on that game?  Are they serious??? What more does the kid have to do?

Funny thing is he isn’t flash, just smooth and accurate. TBH I forget how little football he has played cos of how composed he is.
They love the flashy types, I’ll take McVee hitting the target time after time any day of the week.

Reminds me of Alan Johnson who played in the 80's. He started on a wing and then went to the back-line.  He was also the clubs  oldest best and fairest winner at age 32

I honestly don't think the AFL industry has heard of him until recently.

For example on the TAB website, he is unlisted for the Rising Star winner. You can't even put a bet on him

On the flip side, Jefferson and Jed Adams are $501 while Corey Wagner (ex Dee) is $251 and he's 6 years too old to win the award!!!

Sums up the AFL - “industry”!   Corporate and flash bang stuff ahead of the actual game.

Love Judd.  He does some great work at half back, but I feel his pin point passing and good option selection is almost wasted there.  Wounder if he'll graduate to a wing one day and/or be given a bit more licence to run off his man to get more ball across half forward and deliver the ball inside 50 or take a few shots at goal every now and then as time goes by.

Went to a function with Max Gawn the other week and he was a huge rap on Judd.  Also pointed out that nearly every week Judd is being assigned one of the opposition's most damaging forwards, such is the coaches faith in him and makes his performances even more impressive.  Just as impressive is that he rarely gets beaten one on one.

Loved Salem’s substantive words to the journo. That was a good read.

I posted elsewhere the credit MBJMcV had given Salo, in an ABC WA Regional interview (which the AFL seems to have 'mined' incidentally!😄) Nice to have two of that ilk - and  to the Alan Johnson comparison, @Theo!

Have another look, too (it's taken a few to make sure I wasn't imagining it!) at the passage leading to the Rooy goal: after Judd loses control of the ball and is falling to the ground, he can still tap the ball back into Jack's path.

Composure.

There were times during the Collingwood game where I wished McVee and Salem were doing all the inside 50 kicks. Both were so far ahead of every other Melbourne player for consistently good and effective disposal.

Still filthy that he didn't receive a free kick from Tom Mitchell completely taking him out without the ball. Absolute joke!

Other then that, the kid is a serious serious talent. How absolutely wrong I was after watching him at Casey last year. it's all the hard work he's put in over the off season to put himself in this position. A mindset of a future 150 game warrior.

No wonder he was rated a potential top 10 pick at under 16's level.

Just add that to the Jason Taylor's bucket of unknown talent plucked out of nowhere.

rookie list pick up. the recruiting team are on fire. WC and Freo must be getting tired of us stealing all the WA talent on the cheap. we clearly have far superior scouts

love young Judd. so much guts and composure

Absolutely love him. Consistently has time, composure, awareness and plays at a level of hardness that belies his size. He and Salo both working off the same line was a thing of beauty this week. More Judd!

Add Bowey back to that at some stage and our backline including Hibberd, Lever, May, Rivers looks pretty elite at the moment.

Tomlinson did a great job there on Monday, I really prefer Petty there and Brayshaw can also be fantastic down there on his day.   It's a bit of an embarrassment of riches down back at the moment and would be making life super tuff for the selectors.

Updated my avatar to Judd a month or two ago when he became my =#1 fave along side Hunt and Salem.

Mentioned elsewhere that I really like how he just glides on the surface of the G.  Different gait but TJ like.  Very smooth operator, in every respect.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
