Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Luke Jackson

Yes he could make squillions if he signed on at another club but the question is, does a typical AFL player seek to win multiple flags or do they forego that possibility just for a few gold coins ??

To be fair though I don't think Tim Kelly was home sick as much as he needed to go home for family reasons. Those are different things.

Feeling lonely, isolated and missing home is very different to having external family pressure to return home because of a partner/child/parent, which is also where Hogan was (and having cancer would not have helped!).

I highly doubt Jackson, who is 21 and has no long term partner or kids, would be feeling any pressure from his family to return home, when they can see what a successful career he's forging at Melbourne. He also has great connections at the club, having come across with Rivers who is an old mate.

There will always be noise that he's 'going home', because every super talented player born in WA gets that sort of attention. But there has never been a single indication that he was wanting to return to WA. He said on the Gus and Gawny podcast last year that he loves Melbourne, he keeps gushing about the team, the culture and working under Gawny. Why would you go out of your way to say those things if you were missing home?

For me the only reason he hasn't signed is because his management team knows how much his worth will continue to increase, and the club is obviously trying to put long term deals in front of him, which is not a wise move for someone of his age and calibre to sign. As much as I wish he would sign a 10 year deal, the reality is he should sign for 2 and then get even more money.
I also think that if the club didn't think they were a strong chance to retain him, they would have entertained the Cerra for Jackson trade last year, as we were very much into Cerra.

Culturally I would rather the club not offer the godfather approach. If he goes to 5 years of underperforming eagles and dockers then good luck.

I want trac looked after. And clarry and ed and gus and jack and Jakes. .....

The whole team that delivered on gf day.

Adopting the cats approach of a bit less coin for sustained success.

I think jackson will too. Sign at least a 2 year extension. And that's fair all round.

Wake me up on page 50. Truth is that players these days are encouraged to think beyond one club, the AFL wants that to happen as the whole trade thing is part of the entertainment. Players have grown up watching the careers in the NBA. On that basis he must be a 50/50 risk which would escalate should he get another flag with us this year, not because of his character just the era we now live in. That said i thought his body language was stay, all other things being equal.

C'mon Big fella.. all excellent deals!

Sign here son!!

I made the Schwarz comparison late last year - but I said "without the leap". Well since then he's made me look like a fool as he is more than well equipped in the specky department.

It's his smoothness and touch below his knees which reminds me of the pre-knee injuries Ox. Only 3rd year as well, no wonder he has not signed yet, his manager would be telling him "no rush". Sky is the limit with this bloke, absolute star and extremely marketable for the club as well.

The thing is, i am incredibly confident he stays, but if he did request a trade, geez they're going to have to give up a lot to get him. if Freo wanted him i'm demanding 2 first round picks and a player.

West Coast, give us pick 1 and your 2023 first rounder.

Not looking to ruffle feathers or swirl anything around, but is it really just between us and WA clubs? There could be godfather offers coming from all over the place much like a Judd situation back in the day.

Personally I agree with the 2-3 year route and I think it's a smart avenue to take as the club, save the ego contract for the next one.

He's not a FA - which club could satisfy a trade? WCE may have pick 1 this year, that would be a start.

He is still very young and inexperienced. It would be way harder to play to his current standard and grow as a player in a bottom 4 team than the top team. His manager would be aware of that. I think we will see at least one more contract.

Not sure about our CAP position though.

Interested to hear about these Cap issues. We have signed our big name players to long term deals last year so I already assumed that we would be tight, but has there been anything further reported on our salary cap?

Jackson, Brayshaw, Sparrow and Spargo still out of contract I see.

My thoughts exactly. We are covered either way.

What happens if we cannot reach a deal though, he doesn’t goto the draft does he?

Not wrong, losing Jackson would be like losing pre knee Schwarz and more frustrating. I am as nervous as hell.

Perhaps it is his nickname Dogga, but Jackson does strike me as a loyal, hang with his premiership mates and create some history type of bloke.
However like many players throughout the league, he will wait to see what the new salary cap is and negotiate from there. He would actually be a bit silly to sign now without having all the information

I honestly think there is no chance he will leave.

Ralph is assuming we have sal cap issues.  He may be right.  But it won't stop us signing Jackson (and Oliver) and I would guess they would follow the lead set by others and be reasonable.  The club will contract other players in order of priority.

If need be they won't renew contracts for Hibberd, Melksham and others.  And maybe trade out a few:  Harmes (2yrs to go on contract), Hunt ☹️(OOC this year) etc.  Some players may go for lack of opportunity.

The club would have planned for this several years ago.

Hope that is reassuring.

He also said that our offer is $700 per year for 2 years. I would anticipate West Coast or Freo would offer more which makes it a big decision for the young man.

Ralph, would know as much as poster's on this site about Jackson's intentions which is sfa. And he is only guessing regarding the MFC salary cap. Just more crap from a journalist.

If he’s that keen to play in WA then I just hope we can eek out a final 2 year extension before he heads home. This would coincide with our premiership window being wide open for the 2022-2024 seasons.

Perhaps after 2024 we might be heading down the other side of the hill in terms of contending and therefore the loss of Jackson by then might not hurt as much and we get some big draft capital coming our way.

Desperately hope he re-signs for 2 years. Can’t see anything more.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
