Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Interested to hear about these Cap issues. We have signed our big name players to long term deals last year so I already assumed that we would be tight, but has there been anything further reported on our salary cap?

Jackson, Brayshaw, Sparrow and Spargo still out of contract I see.

Considering how well the Journo's went at guessing the players salaries, i'd definitely believe them about our cap issues.

Out of contract young superstar plays career best game over the weekend. Ralphy is a smart journo, this story was always going to fill the Monday papers but he doesn’t have much to go with. It’s mainly speculation at his end.

Like most of Ralph's offerings he gives the impression he's telling you something while telling you absolutely nothing. He's wasted in the footy media. A highly successful career in public office has gone begging.

Luke's manager will be loving this. His young client's profile is being pushed further skyward and his value to Melbourne & all other suitors is appreciating by the week.

I hope he signs for MFC - in his own good time - for obvious selfish reasons but also for young Luke himself. I can't begin to imagine the pressure he'd be under should he return to WA. He'd be seen as a saviour & messiah and the scrutiny on his performance would be intense. The goldfish bowl over west is a hell of a lot smaller and contains fewer fish. Even for someone who appears as laid back as Luke, that would be hard to handle. There a quite a few cautionary tales about unhappy homecomings. He's still a very, very young man

He also said that our offer is $700 per year for 2 years. I would anticipate West Coast or Freo would offer more which makes it a big decision for the young man.

That doesn't sound right at all. Surely we would have put a longer offer in front of him, any money Ralph is guessing.

Ralph is assuming we have sal cap issues.  He may be right.  But it won't stop us signing Jackson (and Oliver) and I would guess they would follow the lead set by others and be reasonable.  The club will contract other players in order of priority.

If need be they won't renew contracts for Hibberd, Melksham and others.  And maybe trade out a few:  Harmes (2yrs to go on contract), Hunt ☹️(OOC this year) etc.  Some players may go for lack of opportunity.

The club would have planned for this several years ago.

Hope that is reassuring.

Thanks mate. Pretty much as I thought. I just thought I might have missed something a little bit more official than John Ralph guessing that our salary cap is tight.

He looks to be enjoying his football ATM. In career best form, giving a 100% and does not look like he’s bothered by the crystal ball gazing happening around him. Of course we have no clue of what’s in his head but I take it as a positive sign that it’s business as usual so far. Even if he decides to leave and the club knows about it he will play out the rest of the season because he can help deliver another flag.

His next contract may well resemble a 'football ATM'!

Jackson doesn't need media speculation or gossip to drive his price up - it's already sky high

But he'll sign and be paid well, very certain of that

This discussion about the cap is an interesting one, we had a thread on trade targets where I had my go at who is getting paid what:

I think that to keep Jackson and Oliver we are going to have to move on players in their prime who are role players - by definition they will attract a decent salary but their loss can also be covered relatively easily.

So McDonald, Harmes, Hunt, Tomlinson, Spargo, and Weideman…

I refuse to consider trading ANB and Brayshaw due to the fact that they are more than just role players (which may also apply to Harmes), and Melksham and Hibberd are delisted in this scenario.

The downside of having so many stars is the quick progression of Jackson causes problems.

I am still hopeful the Luke Jackson stays with the Melbourne Demons.

He could get paid more elsewhere at West Coast or Fremantle. Although, we will pay him reasonably well too.

I am a bit annoyed at David Schwarz saying he is worth $1 million a season though! While Luke Jackson could be worth that much in the future. To say he is worth that now puts undue pressure on him and the club. Especially as we need to take into account that Angus Brayshaw's contract finishes at  the end of this season and I think Clayton Oliver's contract finishes next year or the year after.

However, if Luke Jackson wants to win more Premierships and create a Chicago Bulls or Los Angeles Lakers or Boston Celtics style dynasty at the Melbourne Demons (kinda like we did in the 1950s and early 1960s) then he will stay.

In the end, he will need to decide between money and extreme scrutiny as an individual or a bit less money and sustained team success.

My tip is he will re-sign with the Melbourne Demons. How long his contract will be I have no idea though.

Don’t think he has any desire to return to Perth, but in the off chance he did now isn’t a bad time with both at the bottom they have the picks to at least compensate us well. Dees knew he and other young guns would be coming out of contract I’m certain we have allowed enough room to officer him a more than adequate contract, if there is any contract squeeze it will effect players like Brayshaw, Tomlinson and Hunt, or even someone like Sparrow and Rivers.

The thing is, i am incredibly confident he stays, but if he did request a trade, geez they're going to have to give up a lot to get him. if Freo wanted him i'm demanding 2 first round picks and a player.

West Coast, give us pick 1 and your 2023 first rounder.

If WCE hold pick one why would they trade that to us plus a future first when he could walk to the ND and they just draft him with p1.

I heard sometime ago that Jacko's were uprooting their life and moving East so why would he sign with any "West" team ?

He's not a FA - which club could satisfy a trade? WCE may have pick 1 this year, that would be a start.

Let's just say hypothetically GWS somehow bomb out this year and end up with a real high pick. Then on top of that someone like Steve Coniglio randomly requests a trade. Could a club like that one enter the frame?

I know it's all 'choose your own adventure' at this stage but I just can't rule out the left field suitor.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
