To split pick 2/3 they need another team to have 2x first round picks in 2022 . Right now, there is not a team that has the required draft hand.

WCE does not need to split their 2022 first for two 2022 firsts to the same team!

There are any number of combos of 2022 and 2023 picks with one or more clubs to get WCE two 2022 first so they can trade one and use one.

Speculation only (rare for this site) but my guess is Jackson’s mgmt have asked Freo & Melb to see if a suitable trade could be organised - if the two parties are too far apart he’ll sign a short term contract with Melbourne. No way his manager will want to put him into a scenario where there is any talk of Melbourne possibly pushing him to the draft.

That could explain why there has been a long delay from Jackson as Freo take an eternity to organise anything since Bell landed there. The spotlight is firmly on Gus and Jackson since Clarry signed. Given a choice I'd want to keep Luke. A little annoyed with Brayshaw as there is no go home factor. Honestly don't want to pay overs to keep Gus. Midfielders and Halfback/wingers can be replaced, but Luke is unique. I want to see us in a few years time having Luke and Jeff White's son playing in tandem with Maxie up forward resting.

They can't trade their first round pick.

I feel like we need to put this in the thread title to save you from having to mention it every 3 pages.

TBF, LH has a point about the other options available to them - Just me personally I can't see it happening.

An acquaintance here in Perth who’s a WC supporter told me WC stopped tanking because they are now out of the running to get Jackson. I take that with a grain of salt but who knows what goes on.

They’ve stopped tanking and have reverted to just being regulation garbage.

well if that is the case expect it to be leaked on wednesday 😁

I know you were joking, I don't think it will be leaked, whenever it happens. Clarry's wasn't. And I think the reason we are where we are re: media speculation is because they don't have a clue, and are assuming he is leaving because it's later in the year.

All we can say for certain is that no Gus and Gawny podcast this week means no announcement of Gus re-signing until at least next week 😄

Was Adam Cerra out of contract last year when he found his way to Carlton? May be some parallels with Freo placing a high value on him which is why he didn't end up coming to us.

If it was the case he was out of contract, then clearly the destination clubs still find a way to satisfy the current club to ensure the deal happens.

Cerra was absolutely out of contract last year.

When an out of contract player nominates his club of choice, the out of contract player gets to his club of choice.

It's when the on-contract wantaway players such as Papley try to move clubs. That doesn't always proceed.

Thats the first thing I thought of when I saw their post about how there wont be a pod this week.

I'm almost the opposite in my thinking- Gus has shown conclusively that he is super versatile and gives us quality wherever he plays. Sure he's not Trac or Clarry but his true value would only be seen if he was to leave I think.

Jackson will be a great player but who knows if he will reach his full potential. Jesse Hogan was looking like he would be the best player in the comp but personal issues impacted him. Body Grundy is a great ruckman but it doesn't translate into wins for the pies.  I'd hate to sell the farm to keep Jackson and push other very good players out in the process. We won on the weekend without a pure ruck.

Wasn’t it reported his club of choice was Melbourne but due to Melbourne not being close to getting a deal done with Freo for him he pivoted his choice to Carlton (whom Freo could get a deal done with)?

Believe so. Steven May was off to Collingwood before we got in when they couldn't get it done. Happens plenty of times.

I think LJ will stay from what i am hearing from inside MFC

Thanks SWYL hopefully your mail is accurate

I've said this a number of times but I struggle to see any compelling reason for any of our players to leave other than if they are driven by dollars only - naturally that's important but it is not the main driver for most young guys. For them it would be playing alongside good mates and winning. The money decisions are best left to when they have one good contract left

Luke has mates on both sides of Australia …

I've heard that Luke Jackson made his mind up ages ago, but hasn't announced anything because he's having too much fun trolling Demonland posters.

True but not the ones he has been playing alongside for the last 3 years and won a Cup with

Freo won’t give up their players. They have the leverage if Jackson wants to leave. Best we could do would be to seek out Brodie or Acres (both out of contract) as part of a swap plus picks our way. And I’m not sure either even get a gig in our midfield. I hope Jackson stays. I can’t see any workable trade that helps us. We will be bent over. On the upside, if he doesn’t want to be a demon let’s get in someone who does. We don’t actually know if he wants out though. We can only deduce that he doesn’t want in by the fact he hasn’t signed yet.

Brodie or Acres 🤣🤣🤣

cmon mate

If it's any consolation,  one of Luke's closest mates Luke Travers was drafted into the NBA last week. So he won't be seeing much of him should he want to return to Perth.

Might help to convince him to stay and use Zoom

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
