Because we won't have a choice in the matter.

If Jackson nominates Freo as his club of choice, he will end up there and we take what we're given. What's the alternative?

That’s complete rubbish.  Of course we have a choice.   They need to offer a suitable trade, you don’t just take what they offer.

The more Gus plays at half back as filler he has gone from a stop gap whilst Salo out, to a quality half back to recent games where he is playing at a level I would consider All Australian and significantly impacting the flow of games. I do wonder what games like last week have done to both his value inside and outside the club but also in his mind the role he wants to play whichever club he is at.

For the record I know what I get with Gus and we gain nothing but cap room and a token pick to bargain with (or has that changed) if he leaves. With Dogga (who I want to stay if he chooses to at fair $$) we still dont know what he is and how far he will take it. If he chooses to go home, as long as Freo and Eagles are both pushing hard we need to leverage the draft/trade position to solve our longer term elite key forward gap and maximise our ability to address shorter term needs whilst we are in the window.

So if given choice Gus over Dogga would be my current thinking.

Every day of the week.  Gus over Jackson, for the reasons you outline.

I think dogga will be a great player. I want him to commit to us. But his non-commitment is really starting to become an issue for me. We're the premiers. We can offer everything he needs to succeed and develop at the MFC. We should not need to be convincing him to stay.

He is obviously torn and i get it. The pull of home can be very powerful. But i'm not sure having a semi-committed player yearning for home is worth the hassle. We've been down this path with Jesse and we all know how that turned out

If he doesn't sign his contract soon then we may have to accept the unpalatable truth and cut our losses. Otherwise it'll the same rumors every trade period. Too destabilising.

Norf need to finish last to give us some protection from LJ just nominating the draft - although I really doubt it will come to that.

If there is any integrity in the system Gus will be an AA half back. This combined with his heroics in the GF make him indispensable. Hopefully he will retire as an all time great Demon.

We will find out good he really is in the absence of Max.

I'd rather Gus thanks.

Me too.

If rather the player that’s in career best form, playing with 100% heart, taking courageous and goal saving marks over someone that could be a good player in the future.

Then he goes into the PSD, plays for North for a year before getting to Freo in 2023 and we get nothing.

Sounds great…

Whatever the outcome I doubt that LJ will stab us in the back if he decides to go he will want MFC to be fairly compensated. I am hopeful that he will stay but he is young and who knows what his drivers are???

Your clutching at straws now.

The Straw lobby disowns this nonsense and wants nothing to do with this farcical notion.

Should Jackson nominate Freo should we be asking for Andrew Brayshaw?

Ha ha or their best ruckman.!!

Fremantle Have  Reportedly Offered Luke Jackson$10.5 million over 7 year deal.

Will be very hard to resist if true.

That sounds ludicrous

If they value him that highly they'd have to be prepared to hand over a mountain of players and picks in a trade.

Just saw that on Instagram. So 1.5 mill a year. Would completely undermine their list management.

If that was true and he could go home as the highest paid player in the game, I would think he was gone.

Josh Kelly knocked back that from North.

If that’s true then Freo are silly and Luke would be silly not to take the money.

He’s a very good player already and turned the momentum in a Grand Final, but that kind of money should be reserved for a Lance Franklin or Dustin Martin type in their prime. Don’t think Luke is anywhere near that level yet and he may never get there.

Not sure how much credibility he has now that he is pursuing the hot take media route after flopping as a coach.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
