I'm really surprised he chose us over other clubs which would have given him more games in the seniors.

Regardless. Welcome Luke!

He might be backing himself in to be a better player which is only a good thing. Remember we have chocco and Yze which should improve his skills as evidenced by our players this year

He maybe super motivated to show his former coach that he can play given Ratts didn’t want to keep him.

Hopefully he has a crackin 2022 and adds further to our list.

I know Cerra has more potential, but Dunstan could be as good for us over the next two years and cost us nothing in terms of picks and less in cap space.

Statistically they were very similar in 2021.

faulty mildly approves of this signing although I'm unsure as to why.

If we are talking about players being moved on, it could be said that MFC allows players to move on given a perceived lack of opportunity rather than mistake or inability type scenario. The former is positive the latter is negative, and potentially undermining.

I can also add that Luke is an outstanding fella with real leadership qualities.  We are bringing a very high quality person into the Club.
Welcome Luke.

Any other players we may potentially look at this trade period or is this us done?

Reminds me of Stephen Powell..

Welcome aboard Luke.

I’m surprised. He’s good enough to be best 22 elsewhere, hard to see exactly where he fits in the MFC picture. Looking forward to seeing this one play out.

Good midfield depth for us and a free hit under free agency. He’s no superstar, but can clearly fill a roll if required. Strange the Saints let him go as he’s clearly better than a lot of other mids on their list. Their loss is our gain in this case.

Importantly Tim Lamb said in interview that Dunstan was a “good cultural fit”. We know how important culture is now!

Nailed it.  We give up nil and he’s very good insurance. We need midfield to be fit and strong across another hopefully very long year. Our contested footy is the best in the league.

One major positive is that bringing in a ready to go mid keeps pressure on those in the team to perform. It was a big reason we had a successful year

anyone thinking of dropping standards, getting a big head or over celebrating over the summer will know they now have him breathing down there neck wanting to take there spot in the 22

Well, I absolutely didn't think this would happen. To the point where I didn't even give it much thought.

Lots of respect going around for Dunstan's character, so that's a good starting point. Free Agent, reportedly fairly low salary. Tick. My gut feeling when I saw the news was that St Kilda must be mad to be letting him go. Good sign. The question marks are on his kicking and his durability. We might be able to help with both as it seems we've got a pretty good system in place for improving these things.

I like it. I like the comfort of knowing that we have a little more depth in the engine room. We were very lucky/well managed with injury this season and it is a comfort to know that we aren't just assuming we will have a run like that every year.

Very cost-effective pickup, a definite quality AFL player.

I'm genuinely concerned about St Kilda, though. In particular the burden placed on Jack Steele. If they break him it is a crime against football as well as the death of their competitiveness.

Nothing wrong having another South Australian at the Dees :)

Mentioned earlier, but the main knocks on him from Saints supporters on BF is that he doesn't have a good tank and his disposal (handballing in particular) is poor.

They also said that whilst he doesn't have the physical ability to go both ways all day, he definitely has the mindset/desire to do so.

So, between the ears (effort..etc) he sounds good. I'm sure our fitness team & Choco could sort out the rest.

I've watched him enough. He'll be a good soldier when required.

Like Gunston makes no sense. Go for youth.

Haha, I see you've already backflipped on this within the one thread, but just letting you know I'll be watching your next best 22 to see if you've managed to put in the guy who makes no sense. 😉

Also, his poor kicking is being overplayed. He won't improve our ball use, but he's no worse than our current mids.

I like it, he could’ve got a contract at a lesser club & cruised along accepting mediocrity

He knows it going to be tough & realises what it’s going to take to play seniors.

Good on him, he’ll be a very solid backup

Absolute gift given we're down avb and jones this year. We arent going to enjoy a dream run on injuries every year.

The knock on his disposal is way overblown. He was down this year but hes pretty much afl average for an inside midfielder.

Can't believe Saints let him walk.
