Hey everyone, Long time lurker first time poster.

I had an idea to really harness the momentum that the club is on at the moment to really draw bigger crowds and create a sensational atmosphere at the G.

I would love to get a song right before the first bounce going, not unlike many other sporting clubs around the world. I think this creates spine tingling moments that the whole crowd and players could get around. It would just be a verse and a chorus not the whole song and I think this would be the perfect time to get the ball rolling coming of the drought breaking flag with hopefully much more success to come. As we are the oldest professional football club in the world, I feel we deserve our own traditions.

The ideas I have so far are

1) Give 'em Hell - short shadows (great song written specifically about the Dees)

2) Leaps and Bounds - Paul Kelly (Great Aussie Song, Imagine a packed G yelling, "over the bridge, at the M! C! G!)

3) Never walk alone - Used by many clubs across the world (would symbolise the the committed and loyal Dees fanbase, also the fact our drought breaking flag was away from the home of footy)

4) Freed from desire - Gala (Might be more of a chant but we all saw the boys getting around this post game, A little body blow to the doggies too, could rally the whole club.

Hopefully there are many others who would like to see this get going also. Open to any ideas and thoughts or other song suggestions too.

PS here are some scenes from other teams around the world.

Agree! Collingwood also tried to destroy Nothing Else Matters.

Works for Liverpool and that’s about it ( and I’m not a fan of theirs) otherwise it’s cringe

Evidently I've missed the mark here. I am not this Craig bloke tho.

Fair enough if you think it would be cringe, what is the reason for that?

Is it too foreign? I too don't want AFL to become too americanised but you cant tell me that the AFL cheer squad chants are much chop (melbourne *clap clap clap*)

That NZ dance thing too

"That NZ dance thing" is the haka, which is a huge part of NZ culture and tradition and has been performed pre-game by the All Blacks since early 1900.

Please don't throw that in the same basket as the manufactured BS that Port do.  Liverpool is tolerable because that was started by the fans.

We should probably merge this thread with the other one that someone started. Then delete it. Nothing personal.

Do you mean the Haka that the players do before the game starts? That’s a fantastic touch that adds to the build up to the start of a big game.

There is a song that comes to mind for Hutchy and the lyrics aren't even in the song but the audience sing it loud and clear everytime.

Am I ever gonna see your face again - the angels

Why would we copy some other club's tradition? We might as well stick "yellow and black" in our club song words because it's always pretty cool to hear that being roared out.

The "never walk alone" thing grew organically out of Liverpool. Hard to see it really take off here in Oz. I do know that other clubs around the world have adopted it, but that's a level of fake-ossitude that I think we don't need to be part of. Cultural cringe, if you like.

Any "tradition" we end up with will emerge by itself without controls. I'm not against an intro song, but the crowd will decide if they want that, and if so, what song. Happy for the club to try out some, see what sticks. The song Goodwin used from the musical ... "This is me" ... (in another thread) ... would be a good starting point because it emerged from within the club without anyone trying to steer it. It has some meaning to this team as it was used as part of the drive to the flag. Not imposed because someone got the shivers watching another club do it on TV.

It's possible to do two things at once: admire what other clubs around the world do, and not feel the urge to grab a bit of that for ourselves.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”).
