Rick? Lever... is that his nickname?

Anyway we should have a red hot crack at Cerra just to put the price up.

Hi Jontee. Yeah, that’s his nickname apparently. Personally I wouldn’t be looking to push any decent players out the door. Treating them as tradable commodities can be a quick way to erode the culture we’ve got our squad to invest in. I’d prefer using draft picks if we were enter the conversation for his services. Assuming we have anything worth offering.

People throwing up Gus and Rivers need to think very carefully about team harmony and unity.

The players are very close knit bunch, and a lot of the way they play is because of how much they love one another and enjoy playing together.

Our culture is finally one that other clubs can be jealous of. We need to be very very careful not to just throw out key players in our team. It will cause big disharmony and could backfire.

We also can't bring in someone who will demand huge money. Remember Oliver and Jackson will both be out of contract soon enough. That is a big chunk of money gone right there. Have to be very smart, and I think for where our list is at now, our best chance is to target specific needs with free agents or players really keen for success willing to play for less money.

Their list is fine. Their administration is a shambles. It's a power-hungry boy's club that's eager to make decisions when what they need is stability.

They're about to replicate the same mistake they'd just finished making by replacing a young developing coach with an old angry one. It's ludicrous.

Maintaining stability is a proven recipe for success.

Watching On the Couch last night, I was like Cartman drinking the delicious tears of Carlton fans as they were slayed by the panel.

If he wants to play for premierships he should come and play for us at half price.

Losing Rivers or Jackson is unacceptable. No deal.

Absolutely agree. We have done (and still doing) the development on these two blokes. Get real !!! Why trade  down ????

Rivers and LJ don;t want to go anywhere judging by the way they celebrated on Saturday night.

And anyways, now that West coast and Freo are both rubbish (Freo has some young talent but not enough imo) i doubt you'll be hearing too much about home sickness for the next few trade periods

Bad luck to him that the only viable club sounds like Carlton, they genuinely seem like a basket case right now.

Love it.

Jackson said on the Gus and Gawny podcast that he absolutely loves Melbourne and has no home sickness. Kid doesn't sound like he is a good enough liar to pull off such a convincing story.

Haha...I thought the exact same thing

Wouldn't it be funny if Carlton are the only club to put up their hand and Cerra decided to stay at Freo instead.

The only way I see this happening is if Sam Weideman wanted to move on and we landed a handy pick/picks which could be on-traded to Fremantle. But this seems unlikely.

Current 2nd rounder (is that tied to Hawks?) plus future 1st? Not enough?

Player plus future 1st? Who and what gets it done?

Freo gave us 6 and 23 for Hogan and a packet of cheezels a few years back.

So essentially how do we get a first round pick inside the top ten to be anywhere competitive in this scenario for Freo?

I'd take less and come and play for Melbourne if my surname was Cerra, but I'm a bit biased.

Honestly, I think this is one we just have to accept isn't going to be ours.

Whoever gets him will probably be happy enough but there's not much we can do to influence the situation.

Whatever will be will be.

If the rumours of what he is going to get paid are true (750k), no thanks, not interested

If we believed every rumour of what our players are on, MFC would be about $3m p.a. over the cap.

Im willing to bet not many of the rumours were close to the money (pun intended)

Agreed. Maybe we can package up Weideman and Joel Smith?

Relax guys, I'm joking!

that's a lot of money even for a 21 year old private school boy 😁

Possible trade Eishold, Godfrey, Hopgood, Bartram and Spencer for Cerra

Still too soon to be mentioning Simon Eishold in September. It’s only been 34 years.

In others words he ( Rivers ) is no Tom Scully.

I dont think anyone would be interested in moving away from the Dees at the moment. Cerra would be a great acquisition and there are number of player + trades that will get it done.

The one that is most logical would be one of Brayshaw / Rivers / Dogga given they are all WA boys. Brayshaw's immediate family is here (as is his GF and her family) so doubtful he would want to pick up and move. Rivers and Dogga however, may look to move back home purely given how COVID has displaced everybody here in VIC.

I would look at Rivers + 2nd round pick for Cerra only if he indicated that he wanted to go back home. Id do everything to keep Dogga - that kid is going to be a star.

Talk about destabilising a Club and list!!

Forget it snd let us build strength the way we have which is going to last!

Hasn't our side been built by adding in players from other clubs, May, Lever, Brown, Langdon plus adding youth through the draft.  It is a balance I get that but lets wait to see how we go in finals before we rule any one out.  I'm not saying it will be Cerra, would love him as he adds something we need to improve our list in a really good age bracket, but I'm sure the list management team has a list of outside mids from other clubs that we want to target in trade week.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
