Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Actually, I think Tom Mitchell and Tom Libretore are just as good at that part of the game. But Oliver has them covered for other apects.

Sure, if you love a throw 😂

Mitchell and Libba are slow. Clarry has a brilliant burst of speed and his ability to pick up the ball one handed while charging forward is unmatched. He won us the game last night by doing just that in the final centre bounce and then had the vision to hit the ball lace out to Spargo.
He is a talent like no other. I will fight to the death anyone who thinks he isn’t the best inside mid in the competition! He was winning AA blazers at 20 in a game over flowing with midfielders who can see ball and get ball. He is special.

Agree completely on Oliver being severely underrated - both by opposition fans and commentators. Trac is a sensational player and gets deserved recognition as such but Oliver doesn't get the plaudits he deserves.

I think this year commentators have finally caught on to him, but some of them suggest that this has been some kind of breakout season or that he has gone to new levels. The bloke has been performing at an exceptionally high level for years. I can't remember exactly who it was but a Melbourne player was asked about Oliver's incredible year earlier this season and he just laughed and said something like "Clarrie has been doing it for years".

Not only is he brilliant at his craft but he has an incredible will to win. How often does he have a huge last quarter in a close game to try to drag us over the line, winning some critical contests along the way. He did it last night with that centre clearance with about 1:20 left and the Eagles throwing everything at us.

28 possessions last night while copping an extremely tight tag for 4 quarters from a seasoned tagger.

He is a truly phenomenal footballer.

Completely agree. He did win an AA jacket in his third season after all. He's a freak and it's a joy to watch him in a Melbourne jumper. We're witnessing a once in a generation talent IMO. Trac is great and explosive, and a match winner, but at purely winning clearances and contested ball, we may not see a better player for a long time.

Fair enough l agree that he’s underrated compared to Bont & Trac, but obviously not by the coaches votes

l think Oliver is a brilliant footballer, probably in the top 3 Demons players in my 40 years

#1 in my 34 years.

Mine too. I was not around for Flower or Jimmy as I only moved to Australia in 1998.
Clarry is the best player I’ve seen in a Melbourne jumper purely because he has rarely had a bad game since the day he debuted.

Ed Langon quoted as saying Oliver is the best mid he's played with - Fyfe included.

It was on WA radio, can't find the link tho...!

Bizarre.  Only Goodwin voted for Jackson, and how Simpson voted for Naitanui's 5 minute burst is beyond belief.  Simpson's judgement with his voting is reflective of his current coaching performance.

Even worse, Trac 10 and Oliver 3? On what planet?

Like every year, the AFLCA is keeping secret the last two rounds of votes for the AFL coaches award this year. Since how Oliver is in the lead by 3 votes, any idea on what the round 22 votes will look like against Adelaide? I have a feeling the Bont wouldn’t have polled well against the Hawks.

Miller is the one to watch. The Suns got pumped by 11 goals but he got 30 possessions and always seems to poll in their losing games. He could pip Oliver at the post even if the Swans pump the Suns this week.

Don't forget Wines, he'll poll as well against the Blues, and not convinced Oliver will have against the Crows (maybe he'll get 1 or 2 from either/both of the coaches but not much more). Bont might end up with a couple of votes as well. Think if one of Oliver or Bont scores the 10 this week they'll take it out.

Oliver unlikely.  Seedsman will poll well in the Adelaide v Melbourne game.  I expect Gawn, Petracca, Lever and Fritsch will be most likely, perhaps Jackson.  Agree on Miller. He's a big danger (and a terrific footballer).

It wasn't Oliver's best game but he was consistent.

28 disposals (14 contested), 5 clearances, 8 score involvements, 7 tackles.

I'd have Fritsch and Salem clearly higher than him in ranking Melbourne players, but after that it is a bit of a raffle. The 2 goals Petracca kicked may get him the nod. Others like Langdon and Rivers are in the mix too, but you could see the justification for Oliver is he gets 1 or 2 votes from the coaches.

Had he kicked the two goals he missed, he would have been up there no doubt. It's the one little knock on him, and if he sorts that, look out.

Clarry has the cleanest hand picking up a football and hand ball but does not hurt enough teams by foot when he learns to lower the eyes and take that half second to pass thats when he will really go up another notch he also has to learn how to deal with a hard tag but thats a coaching and mental thing.

Surely Clarry picks up 10 in the final game.  Anyone know when this award is announced?

RS, Coaches Award and AA team announced on Thursday night, August 26.

HOF tomorrow night.

I would say the AA squad should drop any time now.

Bont wont poll in rd 23

Wines was probably just pipped by Boak in rd 23

Oliver should get the 10 but might only get 9 if Scott wants to be a prat and only gvive him 4

If he doesn't give it to Oliver, surely Max is the only other option for top 2 votes on Sat?

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
