Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why do we put a neck brace when someone has a suspected head injury?
Do you need an anatomy rundown? An injury to the neck can cause severe damage to both the body and the head. In fact they can be more dangerous than head injuries.

What a [censored] joke this is…

not a great look, yes he shouldn't have done it . But in my memory it’s never been a suspension for this type of incident ?

You know they will go and invent a rule/ suspension against one of our players. How  many times is this gonna happen when we are on the receiving end of BS tribunal decisions.

Putting pressure on someone’s neck is dangerous. Full stop.
You try having a 90 kilo footballer put their elbow on your throat and see how you like it.
Just because no damage was done this time doesn’t mean we should just let it go. It’s absolutely a bad look for a game that is trying so hard to protect the head of players.
Tell me this, if a Gold Coast player did that to Gus who has a history of head injuries would you be mad about it?

David Neitz did this on multiple occasions , I know different era bits it’s happened this year too with no case to answer.

No, you're trying to move the goal posts now.

First you said he was 'crushing his windpipe', then you said 'what if it was Gus with his head injuries'... Fair bit of distance between the throat and temple, so perhaps it's not me who needs an anatomy lesson.

You're just pushing outrage rather than the facts.

Are you comparing laying a tackle to deliberately hurting an opponent off the ball??? How are these two things related??

I’m pointing out the fact that you mentioned that we were 98 pts up so why would he be aggressive. They are playing a game of footy and being aggressive is part of it regardless of how the game is going.

You people are completing over blowing it.  There was no injury and Collins instigated the incident by pulling Viney down after being tackled.

there is no injury, no case! That’s the way the AFL has been going for years.
If he was pushing that hard on his neck do you not think Collins would be holding his neck after the incident.  The bloke just jogged off.

Unfortunately, they will invoke the 'potential to cause injury'' rule that they pull out whenever they want a certain outcome.  Difficult to argue against as it is impossible to prove what didn't and may never happen.  They don't use logic ie they don't use 'probability'.

That’s not true because all you have to do is look at the Buddy incident or any of the elbows thrown this year and the potential to cause injury is high but all were given fines.

Wrong person, LN. That was me who referred to his windpipe. But I agree wholeheartedly with Jaded. A Viney brainfart of the highest order.

Stupid act but is it worse that an elbow to the head?

Historically MFC have been the groundbreakers in tribunal suspensions.  Trengove v Dangerfield sling tackle, Grinter v Wallace, even Jakovic the only player ever suspended for wrestling, so I suspect he will get 3 weeks.

Not sure why Viney was in such a huff.  Yes he should have received a free because Collins 'took his legs out'.  Frees are missed a dozen times a game.  Over reaction by our VC.

As I understand the 'straight to Tribunal rules' he gets weeks or it is thrown out.  Fines don't come into it do they?

Because Collins pulled him down.

You can just see the beginning of it in this frame...

Never heard of anyone getting rubbed out for an incident like this and never heard of anyone being injured as a result of an incident like this. I’ll wait and see what kind of judgment the MRP passes down but I’m struggling to see why this should be anything other than a fine.

That is what I mean - they invoke it when it suits them.

The difference is those others were classified as 'careless' (well disguised by Buddy, Selwood etc) as they were in play, sort of and luck was going there way on the day.

See my prior post - I think it is too late for a fine.  It is thrown out or he gets week(s).

Hopefully he does get weeks.

Gives us a reason not to play him. Purely on form the past few weeks he's been ****house.

Get Jordon back in, or if they want to go for the bigger experience body then Vandenberg.

I never said anything about crushing the windpipe. Read my posts again.
Head and neck is one of the same when it comes to severe injuries and concussions. In fact a few players with ongoing concussion issues have had neck injuries or neck issues.
We pay frees for above the shoulder not for in the head. End of story.

But does it really make that much of a difference? Head or neck: both no-go zones.

It's not a good look. Doesn't matter who started it, the video shows Viney putting pressure with his elbow on the head/neck region. It's a really, really bad look.

However, if Buddy can swing an elbow into Luke Ryan's head and get a fine, then this should be nothing more than a fine because this is no worse.

If the Tribunal is going to start looking at precedent, look no further than the Tribunal telling the AFL world last week that throwing your elbow around is fine and not going to result in suspension if the other player isn't injured.

Collins was fine, Ryan was fine. If Buddy didn't get a week, there is no [censored] way Viney deserves one.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
