Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I love Jack Viney at his best. IMO, he hasn’t built back to his best form yet and looks to lack a bit of pace. If you look at his stats on AFL, he is above average/elite in tackling and pressure acts, but average to below average in most other stats areas. His season average possessions are 20 (10 kicks) and 5 of these are turnovers;  60% disposal eff overall (a further 3 possessions not effective).  Not intended as a slap, as you say he bleeds red and blue like us, but we really need him to build for finals.

Maybe I notice him more because I hold him to a higher standard.

One wonders whether, had VFL been up and running, would JV have had a week or two there?
But given that it is not then he needs match conditioning and AFL  is the only place offering that right now.

Would love to know the footy department's thoughts on Gus. Do they genuinely not rate him highly so they stick him wherever on the basis he's simply better than the next best available player who is out of the side? Never understood taking him out of the midfield rotation.

I'm truly confused myself.

Logic would say you play him in the position that made him finish 3rd in the brownlow right? Yet we prefer a plodder like Viney.

If we are going to continue to [censored] fart around with him like this, then just trade him.

He'd made a decent career playing in his suitable position.

The VFL was up and running when Jack returned against the Don's.

Goody has a weakness for tough inside midfielders that torch the footy. We know they are his fav’s :-  hopefully Chocko + oooze are helping him get over his obsession.

There's not really any obvious replacement banging the door down though Dazzle?

Especially given there's no door to bang down thanks to the VFL not bringing in the big $$ and getting the chop courtesy of Gil & Co.

A recurring error with regards to Gus; he is not a universal player, he is an accomplished midfielder who racks up possessions and disposals - often scoring himself on the run - and from this onfield allocation, is highly competitive and reliable.

AVB is one of our great assets; he'd protect Salem and also Lever against opponents who can get away with anything coz the umpires say so, and as you suggest, Harmes is freed for closer and more specific stopping of the alleged 'guns' in the opposition.

Interesting calls all around.
Don’t know that Vanders did much wrong and Harmes is in luke warm form at best. But he’s more attacking which we need as I think Viney makes us too defensive.

Valid concerns, all three.

I don't recall whether we hard tagged the Bont last time. Iirc Hibbo went to him when he went forward

The Weid is an option. He's been playing the role in the limited VFL matches since being dropped and has made a decent go of it. I wouldn't be against him getting a run if Dogga continues to underperfrom

What are you talking about. Jack needs to do his job, not play a blinder. His job is more than enough. I am over the Jack slaps. He is a gun, tough as nails, and is as much a Demon as you and I.

Treat him with respect.

Nonsense. No one, especially an inside mid of which we have an abundance of on the list, is immune to scrutiny.

Jack accumulated lots of footy last week but his disposal absolutely killed us. He needs to start making better decisions. He needs to stop getting caught HTB.

We all love Jack but no one is immune to scrutiny if we are hunting a flag.

Brayshaw is a victim of Goodwins' love for Viney

Midfield would be better in my opinion with JV playing elsewhere

But in truth in think Brayshaws' career has been ruined and should look elsewhere given that JV was handed a 5 year deal

Yes he had his fair share of poor disposals, which unfortunately is part of his game, but his pressure was fantastic.

And in a game where our pressure was down, and the hawks out tackled us, Jack had 11 of the team's  70 tackles , by far our most and I think topped the pressure acts.

Jack got 2 coaches votes last week. So, it appears one or both coaches rated his game pretty highly

Hi QD. You're right of course. Given a choice I know which one I'd want in my VFL side.

Jokes aside I do wish the best for Sam. Like all of our squad he's a good human being and I hope he's able to fulfil the potential he has whilst still in the red & blue.

Snappy disposals and effective quick releases are required from Jack. His kicking needs to be tempered, as well. The aim is to hit a useful target  and so do quickly for a particular purpose, not to impress with long bombs for distance, alone after excessive time holding the ball statically to decide whence it is to go without a reason why.

He must also not invite physical challenges to 'get the ball from me' when in possession. Always get caught for starters ....

What bollocks. Gus is having his best season since 2018.

Has not missed a game in a team sitting in top of the ladder.

And he has done a fantastic job on the wing. Hugely important to our structure

Not sure why people think he is not playing the wing atm. He still is. Jordan is supporting him there, but Gus is still playing wing.

He has been a bit flat the last few games, but so has the whole team.

As I suspected we have been doing extra training loads which would impact all players.

In his position has to do a lot of, often unrewarded, running. And unlike say Langdon, Gus is far from a natural athlete. So tge extra loading would have a pretty big impact on his output.

Agreed.

1 kick/1 mark games like last week aren't going to cut it at this level. Performances like that are what cost Weid's spot in the side.

Needs to increase his output over the next few weeks or we risk carrying a player into the finals.

Some of you people laughing at Bevo could have egg all over your faces. And that is not just with the result Sat night. He probably does not care if the tallish forward line works or not but is willing to try it. He will be looking at finals and the various out comes in playing us then. He wont be worried if they lose Sat night as they have easier draw and if they finish 3rd or 4th wont bother him either as it will be us or Geelong in the qualifyings. And that may even be over at mcgowanville.

I completely disagree, the Dogs have beaten no-one and failed all the big tests - MFC and Sydney at Marvel, the real Richmond at the MCG and the Cats at Kardinia Park.  They have to win for their confidence and campaign.  If they lose again it's big trouble.

Maybe their structure will work - they need it to.

Must be a morning for being argumentative. Maybe lock down is getting to me.

Jackson was poor last week. And is yet another ayer who has been down for a few weeks.

Again I reckon extra training loads is likely to be a big factor. Particularly for a young fella in only his second year of afl. And he plays a pretty tough role.

Like Gus, super important to our structure and tactical flexibility in terms of how we utilise Max and create match up problems for opposition coaches.

Luke ain't going out of this team.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
