13-3-1

17 rounds played…..13 wins....and a draw????….. 54 points in the premiership bank and Still on top after a Bulldogs loss. 5 Rounds to go in the home and away season.

Had a shocker and it was only worth 2 points, if that.

Round 18 - 1 (Us) vs. 2 (Them) Earlier than expected but I predict a strong win for us.

Apologies for the short version. A few things have come up at home that have made it difficult to give time to this. I hope to be able to give proper versions in Rounds to come

Hi CHF, happy to step in.

Our result against the hawks - advantage them

Midfield chaos thanks to Covid - advantage us

MCG - advantage us

no crowd - advantage them.

Yo-yo result - advantage Sportsbet.

This is an interesting game and the outcome depends on how we show up.  If we keep the ball in front of us, dont get sucked into the contest and win the contested ball, we win.  If we let them win the middle and fail to stop their throws/pinball out of the contest, we will get done.

We need to see increases in accuracy in front of goal, and lifts across the park in terms of ball handling.

This is not a make or break game, but it is important for how we see ourselves.  Are we (cough) premiership material or are we falling over?  A chance for the 2021 deMons to show up.

Hope Brown gets a few, and we are cleaner by hand and foot.  Dees by 25.

Dees are 1.84 on sportsbet. Dogs 2.00.

I'm not a gambler so how on earth can this be explained?

I predict my heart rate will go up to dizzying levels, and I'll yell at somebody for getting done HTB after trying to break a tackle, handballing to a 3 on 1, or blindly bombing it into the 50 - but hopefully not too much because we're being smarter.

My doc doesn't know i follow the Dees, he'd tell me to stop.

Dees by 60. Because I'm loco. Brown will kick 5. We'll be menacing in front of goal. Ruthless. Diabolically accurate.

We've turned up for all our big games this year. No reason to expect we won't turn up for this one.

Dees by 5 goals

Whilst staring at the gathering grey gloom over Ballarat today I saw something that, at first, I thought was a little ray of sunshine. I was wrong, it was just some of last night's chicken and tomato soup on my glasses. As I wiped them clean with my wife-made mittens, I heard a vague rumble and looked back at the cloud filled sky. Had the rumble been a portent of things to come? Was this a message from on high? Was I being given a glimpse of the Dees fate on Saturday night? I waited for a clearer sign, something more definitive. Another rumble; and then I realised it was probably just another New South Wales removal truck thundering down the nearby Western Highway. As I turned to go back inside, a pair of beautiful crimson rosellas dressed in their red and blue finery flew in to partake of the free seed we provide to our feathered friends. I took a detour so not to disturb their pecking and as I turned my back I swear I heard one of them call out, "Go Dees, we've got this!" I went straight inside and said a little prayer.

Beautifully written.

You had me at chicken and tomato soup on your glasses ?

And you feed the wild birds! I do this, too.
But the sealer was the positive affirmation from a Rosella. Love it!

Could be lid off, but for me, I'll take a peek, then firmly place the lid back on top. I'm optimistic, but I've been burnt enough times to know that I'll only take the lid off when I can cover the pot with a flag.

We'll be slow cooking our way to the finals?

Dogs 4 losses :

Dees - 1st, Cats 3rd on %, Swans 6th, Tigers injury ravaged 9th.

Our losses have been between the ears.

I'm a little worried about the G.

We have been awful there our past three at least. I think we need to show we can play well there pretty soon. There are obviously other factors and excuses for 1 win, 1 loss and a draw,  but hard to know with Melbourne. Apart from beating Essendon there in a slog our previous win there (had games switched out through Covid 4 ) was round 9 against Carlton. Our forward 50 entries have been terrible. I'm not sure how many more games we play there before finals but it would be nice to show we can play the ground well against a big opponent.

I can handle a loss if it's tight and we at least play well. Hopefully we pull on our big boys jumpers and give those dogs a walloping

Pretty simple.

- which team is undefeated against top 8, and which team has struggled in most of their big contender games this year

- who convincingly won the last game the 2 teams played in a strong 4 qtr performance

- Who has no injuries, and who lost one of their best players to a Covid isolation this week

- who has responded very strongly after their 3 losses this year, and who just got over the line to a weak bottom 8 team, that they very easily could have lost

the odds are pretty spot on IMO

I always thought MFCss was a negative thing, so that means I have it and am assuming the worst. (My default position)

Is this correct?

I feel much better. Thanks 1964

Dee's by 52. Naughton's second game in a row so he's due to get injured too which help restrict the dogs.

I am thinking Dees by 27 in a hard fought tough encounter where our big five stand tall and Ed Langdon starts to hit his straps again and all our mid tier players turn up. Unfortunately the G is going to be like an empty icebox again so get warmed up quick Dees and give them Hell.!!!!!!

Umpire no 22.... 5 goal advantage to Dishlickers  before the first bounce

It’s amazing how often one really good team wins one game and next time it’s the other’s turn

if we win tomorrow it doesn’t auger well for the Grand Final

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
