I pity the fool Vanders plays on.

Good question.

If form in the Casey games is any indicator, and trying to replace something close to like for like, Jones would be first up, and Melksham next. Neither can offer exactly what Harmes has but they are the closest.

Bowey or Sparrow from the young guys. Declase coud be a ripper but it is too soon for him.

Jones is injured

Is he still injured. The original report was a mild strain and the rest was precautionary.

Given no VFL tomorrow I suppose we will never know.

Conor Nash out after going to the Rugby.

Never heard of him.

Been away on vacation, so missed the last two games. Couldn’t believe we lost against GWS. Glad we came back against Port. I hope we win again. I’m getting used to being on top of the ladder

On paper we should win this game by 10 goals. The Hawthorn side running out tonight is awful and we have a hell of a lot to play for.

But we're 2-2 against the bottom 4 and neither of the two wins was convincing: we were down to North Melbourne by 4 goals and we were only 4 points in front of Hawthorn at the start of the fourth quarter the last time we played them.

MFC supporters IMO have every right to be worried about this game, given our 2021 form in these sorts of games.

Personally, I think bringing in Vanders is a mistake. I have watched a bit of Casey games and would have thought a fair few were in front of him. I love his tackling and toughness, but he is a momentum killer. His mistakes are often brutally simple but result in opposition goals. Hope I am wrong today.

I can't shake this thought either.

I know he's improved his ball work at Casey this year but Sparrow was in reasonable form vs Essendon and GWS and hasn't shown himself to be as big a liability with the ball as vandenBerg traditionally has been.

We cannot afford him to give the ball away by foot, nor can we afford for him to throw his weight around and give away silly free kicks or, worse, 50m penalties.

Have the same thoughts on vandenBerg's decision making and disposal, but tbh we're probably not losing much given Harmes' form lately in those areas. Also thought Sparrow would be ahead of him but he was icing up both his legs at the end of the Casey game, so maybe there were queries on him being sore? Or maybe Goody just loves vB (as we all know) given apparently Sparrow will be sub.

Finally a post that recognises the importance of goal kicking accuracy

Sometimes a thing as simple as kicking for goal being important doesn’t need to be said as everyone already knows it

The thing that could lose us the game is lack of intensity and pressure so bringing in Vanders is a great call imo. A few turnovers whilst not good won’t lose us the game.

Rain easing, a few light showers during the evening. It's rained a bit during the last few hours so condition of the ground will depend on how fast it soaks it up. It'll be slippery nonetheless.

I never like it when a player gets a freaky haircut before a game, always seems like their mind isn't in the game.......
