Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just ask yourself if this were Collingwood vying for a top 4 spot.

The trip to Darwin is far worse than a trip to Perth as is the impact the week after.

In so many ways the AFL does us no favours.

Should have told the AFL where to go. They booted us out of Darwin, we lost the $ and handed over the development zone to the Suns and now demand we play there as well! We don’t need an energy sapping game up there at this stage with some big games to come.

Tom Morris in the half time segment hinted that we might make a bit of money out of it, but didn’t sound convincing.

The more I think about, surely this is a joint GC and Melbourne initiative. I just can’t see us agreeing to play in Darwin if GC are pocketing all the cash and our travel and recovery plans are being significantly altered. Pert seemed a bit distressed about the loss of revenue in a recent video, so perhaps this is his way of recouping some revenue.

Furthermore we’ve then requested to play the Dogs on the following Saturday night??

Did Tom Morris say this?

If so, that surely is a response to being in Darwin the week before. We don't want to be on a six-day break going into a massive game vs the Dogs. But we'll be losing out financially as a result.

Didn't we decide we wanted out of Darwin?

I am thinking that we have reached an agreement with GCS to split the loss in the NT.

We allow them to meet their commitment and we get half? I can't see any reason to agree to it otherwise

GCS are totally funded by the AFL.

Make no mistake this is an AFL decision.

Suns v Giants today showing GCS are no pushover.

It's not as though we have not travelled this year

Damn, pretty pricey flights up to DRW for the game. Even the Jetstar credit I have for twice cancelling trips to Hobart dating back to last year won't come close to covering the cost.

The price of match tickets are ridiculous, up

to $180 per plus the eye watering fares you mention .
I don’t know if there will be a package set up by the club to make it a sensible proposition to go there to attend the match

Hi Demonique. I'm sure we just paid regular GA prices for the Adelaide game up there. As it's a Suns home game they should be paying people $180 as an incentive to go watch them.

Games played outside Victoria by the end of this week:

  1. Hawthorn - 3 (plus four in Launceston)
  2. Carlton - 4
  3. Collingwood - 4
  4. Geelong - 4
  5. Bulldogs - 4 (plus Geelong)
  6. North - 4 (plus four in Hobart)
  7. Richmond - 5
  8. St Kilda - 5
  9. Melbourne - 6
  10. Essendon - 7 (plus Geelong)

Not only have Carlton and Hawthorn had the least travel so far, they also have the least travel to come, with each only having one more game away from home (Hawthorn has a game in Launceston too but that's their choice).

Meanwhile we still have two road trips plus Geelong, which will leave us equal with Essendon for most trips this year.

No, Tom Morris didn't say we've requested the Saturday night game.

But I'd imagine we'd have requested the Sat night game to avoid the 6 day break.

Would be keen to get a comment from Pert to see if this was a joint venture from both clubs or if the AFL said to Melbourne "too bad Melbourne, GC get all the money and we had to fixture an away side"

Can't help but think the AFL is trying to help a team make the 8.  Not Collingwood but Essendon.

Ess have an away game vs GCS in round 22 which is their only game out of Victoria from round 14 to 23.  The Tiwi Islands and parts of northern NT are their NGA zone.  On that basis alone It should be Ess going to Darwin to play GCS.  A good northern  NT promotional game.

From round 14 we had i/state games in Adelaide, Perth and now Darwin (was Qld).  Our NT, NGA region is Alice.

From what we know, I just can't see any justification for it being us and not Ess heading to Darwin (unless there is a very significant $ benefit to us).  I would have thought being top 2 on the ladder for virtually the whole season would give us some rights to a say in scheduling.  Not to be.

Hopefully, we are given some rights to the scheduling of subsequent games so our player recovery is not disadvantaged.

I agree with all that.

In previous years, there's no way known a team that's well and truly in contention such as MFC would be sent up to Darwin. Did you ever see dynasty sides such as Hawthorn or Geelong being sent there. Admittedly Richmond got sent up there last year for Dream Time but that was directly resulting from COVID hubs.

That's what leads me to think that both clubs, the AFL and the NT have formalised a deal so that both GC and Melbourne will receive a shared payment for the game as compensation for their respective lost games in June.

I just can't fathom a strong CEO such as Pert accepting this massive imposition without some sort of financial compensation.

I emailed membership asking if we had a hand in it (eg cut of the NT Govt payment).

Answer was this was a deal between GC$ and the AFL and twas out of the club's hands.

Boooo!

Thanks for the feedback but the AFL makes me very angry.

Ess should be the team going to Darwin, not us.

Now more than ever I so desperately hope they do not make the finals.

It is so wrong that we get handed two long haul trips in maybe 14 - 15 day period, with a top 2 deciding game vs WBD in the middle.

Hopefully we have secured a top two spot by then, or at least a top 4 double chance so it won't matter.

I reckon it might be time to rest a few players over the next month.

One a game for the next four games.

Don't send Max to Darwin.

Darwin is not much different in time  to Gold Coast but humidity is.

Lets see how player pull up after Darwin snd results of Hawks and Suns games, before we pull trigger on managing.

This can often be done in games as well as if not better than trying to manufacture rests!

Hi all, so my family and I are heading up to the Gold Coast and we were meant to go to this game..

I have noticed a lot of Melbourne fans were doing the same before it got moved.

Maybe we can all organise a pub to go to and watch it together? For those who will be up there with no game to go to anymore

Absolutely filthy we’re the ones that are copping this road trip. I’d say we should request the dogs game gets moved to Sunday arvo but then we could miss out of gate takings because it’s the worst time slot.

Grrr. So I reluctantly bought some tickets to this horrible Gillon McLachlan fix-up and will now have to cycle five minutes from my home in Darwin to spew invective over the fence at the AFL while the team I love plays in the background. Any messages anyone wants me to pass on?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
