Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Rising Star Rd 08: James Jordon

I just love the way he does the basics well. He tracks guys hips to stay on them to tackle. He gets down low and hard to pick the ball up. He gives quick accurate handballs to team mates in better position. And he runs, runs and then runs some more.

He was a strange draft pick at the time because he had so little exposure at the elite junior level and about the only stand out trait was he had some penetration in his kicking - which hasn't really been a huge feature in his game at AFL level so far. But either the recruiters picked up on some finer details or maybe they just really liked the kid.

Well done, JJ! That's terrific and very well deserved.

Oliver, Jackson, Salem and Jordon are our cleanest players below their feet. JJ is a beauty though. Not only is his defensive good, but that cleanness makes him a real weapon.

LJ certainly did and surely Kozzie did, although he was nowhere near as good last year and this year.

Well deserved and gees what a difference for a young player to come in and be able to play alongside a mature established midfield, rather than coming in and having to carry an entire team on your shoulders like so many of our kids have had to do when we were trash.

JJ is a ‘quiet achiever’.  Good skills, great work rate, and I expect follows the coaches instructions to the letter.  A great role player in a team that puts high priority on this attribute.  I love the way he is travelling!

You look at some of the premership teams over the journey and they'll always have a good honest role player that is highly respected within the game because of their dogged determination and grit.

I think of the likes of Brett Kirk, Dale Morris and Brad Sewell. Not flashy types but coaches rate them highly.

I reckon Jimmy will be in that category in the next few years.

Before the first game this year, one of the commentators said that the Melbourne coaching panel had likened him to Simon Black. My first thoughts were "OMG, why would you say that about a kid and put so much pressure on him". But, it looks like they might be on the right track with him.

I'll put my hand up and admit that at the start of this preseason, I actually forgot he was on our list! I knew nothing about him and was really surprised to see Goodwin on a video clip saying he was pressing for a spot in the starting 22.

2 years at Casey, earned his spot, his body is not out of place tackling Josh Kennedy or Cripps who are both huge midfielders, handball efficiency is outstanding - loving his season so far. Comparisons to Simon Black are way off, but Andrew Obst and Brad Sewell looks about right at this stage. Workhorse footballers are essential to success.

Can butcher the ball at times, but his kicking action etc... looks basically reliable so will improve over his career.

Well done JJ!

In fairness I think this gets blown a bit out of proportion. And not single you out at all mate, but have seen a bit of commentary around this.

He's currently going at 75% disposal efficiency. Right now he's ahead of Petracca, Oliver and Brayshaw who are all going at 58%, 69% and 69%.

Doing alright is Jimmy.

His basic efficiency looks ok, but when he does a blooper they have an extreme element to them. By that I mean his bad kicks are howlers. He had 3 versus the Swans that reversed momentum, but I admit he had lots of company in this regard.

Seeing him in #23 brings back those memories.

I was thinking the same thing on Sat night.  Indeed, a worthy wearer of Junior's #23...!

But, the funny thing is that he really seems to operate under the radar a lot of the time.  I remember the commentators saying he had something like 7 touches in the first few minutes of the game on Sat night, and thought to myself "Really?  I don't recall seeing him!"  (Yeah, I know.  I'm probably going blind!  LOL)

Jordon Jones is going to be a rock in the coming years. Like his defensive work.

A few practices on run-through kicking and hitting targets is all he needs. Great hands, great moves, great anticipation. Well done, young man.

I think that commentators statement surprised us all - we were scanning the vision of bigger names, whole-field improvements and potential opportunities - but once the statement was made, we all recalled the talent displayed.

JJ is already in the “good honest role player” category - why in the world would we not hold far higher expectations for him?  Yes, Simon Black maybe??

Baz - I was often flabbergasted when I heard that Junior had had 30 possessions when I had hardly noticed him.  JJ does exactly the same for me.
Just such a quiet achiever.
Great to have him on board.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
