Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Just wondering if many on this forum have started to watch or even finished this doco series? Some of the behind the scene footage is really intriguing.

One thing I’ve noticed is you can really see a massive difference to how a coach like Nicks or Dew talk to a young team vs how Hardwick or Simpson talks to their players. Hardwick doesn’t bother to get into the nitty gritty, he just operates at a high level making sure they stick to their system and everyone plays their role.

I actually hope Goodwin watches the series to get an insight into how some of the better coaches operate.

Some of the sprays that Leon Cameron gives are epic as well.

I've watched the first four episodes. I'm not sure where I land on it to be honest.

Great production values, and I really like the parts with Eddie Betts and his family. He seems like a terrific fella. As does Nik Nat for that matter.

Hardwick, Cameron and  Simpson all come across like nutcases. Dew less so.

The cuts to the footy departments is full on in terms of how many staff the clubs involved in the docos had to cut.

At one stage Nik Nat walks though basically an empty Eagles office and laments all the staff that have left. And the scene where Brendan Gale has to tell his team that to remain solvent many 'roles' will no longer exist is tough viewing.

Yeah I’m loving it 4 episodes in!

The respect and buy/in Dimma gets from his boys is impressive.

Have always liked Eddie Betts but this show makes you like him even more.

Nicnat is a very cool dude too. He’s a rockstar and he knows it but still very down to earth

I thought it was a good watch, 1st episode was boring but picked up once the focus was on footy rather than covid.

I would be very interested to see MFC as a subject for one of these as a comparison to see how they all operate in comparison to other clubs.

I thought Sloane, Betts, Nicks and Dew came off looking really good. NicNat & Simpson were OK Cameron and Coniglio were a disaster.

I can see why Roos wanted Dew as his first choice as successor, he's going to be a ripper for the Suns.

Watched the first two episodes last night. It’s pretty good so far. Dew comes across well. He would’ve been a good coach for us...

Betts is very likeable, as is Sloane. Simpson and Cameron seemed like nutcases!

Sloane does seem like a terrific person. He’s been through some real life tragedies yet he’s still gives 110% and a great leader.

I actually found Nicnat quite immature for a 30yo man and a bit up himself. Betts is fantastic though, extremely humble when you think he’s probably the most popular player in the game.

Have finished it.

Really shows how good a coach Dimma is and how good a system Richmond have, which really pains me to say. They get the players to believe and buy in.

Also impressed with Dew and how he gets on the young guys level. That bike ride was outstanding leadership!

Though Cameron and Nicks both came across poorly, and as average coaches, hard on Nick's I know but at points he was saying to the players "I don't know" which looked bad.

Great to get an insight to 2020 Corona Ball.  Especially at the end of your club speeches where the coaches half break down when thanking family and friends.  Shows how tough it was on everyone involved.

All in all I really enjoyed it!

i didn't think coniglio seemed like a good leader, wasn't vocal unless coaches told him to be in meetings and didn't speak up like sloane did onfield,  and didn't get angry enough or emotional enough when results weren't going their way. didn't appear to rally the troops enough, hopefully for their sake having polar opposite toby greene as a VC this season will help spark that side of the leadership for them.

He struggled but the support around him was non-existent. Felt sorry for him, Cameron is useless and did nothing to help him only destroyed his confidence even more and called him out in front of the players/leadership group.

I felt sorry for Cogs a bit, he doesn’t have that alpha male personality of a leader but it does seem like he loves the club and he bleeds for them.

I agree with your comments regarding Leon Cameron, I felt he hung Cogs out to dry a bit.

Simpson, Hardwick, and to an extent, Dew were all impressive. I’d be worried with Cameron or Nicks as my coach.

2 Episodes in, quite enjoying it.

I think if I was a player I would quickly be over the the constant attempts to get fired up.  I really don’t get how the 3 pole statue used by gws makes you play footy better, I found it a bit cringeworthy.

Eddie Betts is a true champ!

Leon Cameron isn't fit to coach the under 8s

Eddie betts is a legend

Dimma will be one of the all time great coaches. Unfortunately. You can tell hes come through Clarkson with the emphasis on education rather than just giving sprays

Watched 3 eps so far

The pole statue reminded me of something out of The Office. I thought the players were going to burst out laughing when it was introduced.

There’s such an emphasis on seasons have ‘themes’ now because of Phil Jackson, but the reality is that no amount of theming could be a stronger influence than Jordan. Good players and a good system always wins, I guess the other stuff is just designed to keep things feeling fresh.

Hardwick’s nervy as hell before he speaks to the media or players. Clearly he gets moody. He loses it in the box and I bet he’s burnt through some staff.

But then he starts everything off positively. Always backs the system and their strengths and when he does roast the players he does it in a team way.

The Tigers have just been so far ahead of the curve drafting speed, skill and hardness and then just drill aggressive footy (from a defensively sound base) it surely makes it easier. We’re trying to retrofit our team in 2020 to play like they have since 2017.

But it’s certainly worth thinking about criticism of Goody like him not having a plan B. Richmond haven’t had a plan B since 2017 either and they’ve won 3 flags. Plan B is just double down on plan A because they know how good it is.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
