Never in doubt. Good onya Maxy!

Not that it was in doubt but great news!

Thanks Heavens Max signed, not that I was ever worried about him not.

Onwards and upwards. Come on Max, give Clarrie a nudge to sign on the dotted line.?

Love it! Well done Maxy. If his game is to go anything off from last Friday Friday he's in for another all mighty year.

Excellent. Some positive news.

I know we aren’t a successful club yet but man we have come a long way in 8 years. Gawn would have a certainty to leave as a FA back then. Nice to follow a competent club

gawny is a legend. Spiritual leader, actual leader, best ruck in the comp. hope he can stay fit for 5 years. He deserves the contract.

Viney 5 years, gawn too. Who else wants to follow? Finally we have real leadership.

2 years too long. Which club was racing to sign a 30 year old ruck to a 4 year deal?

Unless we got a significant discount it’s a bad deal.

love you Max.
good that they are identifying the same underperformance relative to “potential” and talent that we all talk about . Hopefully petracca and Oliver really believe in what Max says.

way too long in the modern game but I expect there's more to it so ok but after Viney you have to wonder about the longer term planning

Glad he's committed long term. The big signature is Clarry. Put pen to paper already.

Yes, I don’t get it.

In the immediate term it’s very reassuring and provides a confident approach by player and club in the clubs future.

But it’s a financial risk. How long does Max have left given the battering he takes each week and the way he plays the game. 100 per cent effort every week with players falling all over him. . Like Jake Lever, I worry about guys with dodgy knees !

Whilst it’s an important signing, we wait with bated breath on Clarry. I hope it does not remain an issue all season, but I fear it will as his manager tries to maximise his bargaining power by entertaining offers from other clubs.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
