Praying Carroll is there still at our next pick. Bowey would have been available still at our second round pick. Poor strategy by us IMO.

Good get by the Crows to get local lad Cook. He looks a real talent and I’m annoyed we passed on him with earlier picks when he was still available. He’s quicker than both the guys we drafted and kicks more goals too.

Obviously we didn’t rate him as highly

Someone needs to get fired for leaking the Holmes pick.

Unless it was Mahoney and then he needs to be sued.

Bad clubs leak. Good clubs don’t. That’s pretty much it.

This shambles of a club can’t keep making unforced errors.

This is pretty crazy. What evidence is there that we were actually interested in Holmes other than CT's phantom draft, which although it had us picking him also stated "Holmes would be a genuine surprising inclusion in the top-30, but it is not beyond the realms.".

If it is truly that surprising then maybe we weren't actually interested? Maybe we knew Geelong were interested but had no picks this year, so leaked that we were interested, to try and get them to trade in before our pick 28, and the story ran from there?

I note that although he had St Kilda taking Bowey, CT also linked us directly to him, rating him as one of the best kicks in the draft and noting that he can play wing or small forward: sounds perfect for our needs. CT also wrote we would be "looking to see if Bailey Laurie is still available" for our pick 21 too.

No one was talking about Holmes until Twomey’s phantom and then Geelong trade in right in front of us. If we kept things close they wouldn’t have known

Are you suggesting the Cats took a player they didn’t want or know about until a phantom draft or a leak. WOW!

You don’t think much of one of the best recruiters of the last 20 years.

We don’t need 2 small forwards. We do need 2 good kicks. Plenty of other needs if we really wanted to patch holes in the 22

disagree. We desperately need small fast good ball users. it's Pickett then daylight. We have had no X factor to set up easy goals after our midfield win the battle to get it in there.

Laurie looks more exciting than Bowie.

Apparently a good user of the ball.

Was that Panic in Detroit  or Gene Genie?

How many small forwards do we need? Kossie, Spargo, ANB, Chandler, Viney, who I would like to see play as a defensive forward/mid, Bedford, Hunt....now two more!

We have lacked forward 50 defensive pressure  so makes sense to get an army of small forwards. Trouble is our forward line is now so stacked with players it will be interesting to see who gets in the 22.

No he wouldn’t.

Described as an exceptional pick by King, Ablett and Sheahan.

Unlike Melbourne to continue to not think at all.

The draft is so vital. You have to guard your order like state secrets especially with a high upside bolter who fits a huge need. Once again we’ve made it so easy for the opposition.

Yes, if only Mahoney hadn't said anything, no-one would have even known about him. Meanwhile, in the real world:

""They've moved up and targeted the elite runner (Max Holmes). He is a spec pick, but there were so many clubs who liked him in this range," Twomey said."

I think for balance, Rosman might be the more desired path now.

Had to look him up, but looks ok. ??

CT's phantom draft had him going at Brisbane for pick 29, and noted he could be an option for St Kilda.

Given we took Bowey at 21 (before Laurie), I suspect the club rated him a bit higher than media may have, and we felt we needed to get him before 28.

Personally, I've got no idea! But I like the sound of "one of the best kicks in the draft".

Will be interesting to see how quickly Bowey and Laurie push for a game and how long it’s deemed acceptable for Kossie to get under 10 touches and zero goals.

Competition for spots will be hotly contested in 2021

Can we go back to 'Player Number #523698, Blah Whatsit-Something' being read out, for the remaining rounds?

I am still waiting for somebody to stuff up their player number and be screwed out of a pick.

What do we desperately need??

decision making, kicking skills, creativity

we have two great kids that have that.

To those counting centimetres, you might look at the Tigers list to see size does not always matter. When the ball is in your hands, your height does not matter

4 of them are just reserves player EH.

Passed on both Cook and Carroll. Seems like a [censored] up, but just gotta trust the recruiters I guess!

Yea the hundreds of hours they are paid to work on this and they may have lost the paper with Cook and Caroll written on it on the way to the draft.

I doubt both will end up permanent small forwards. Caleb Daniels is the model for both i reckon

Kozzie is a star. Granted they want goals (which will come) bur they won't mind low possession numbers.

They moved up right ahead of our pick!!!!!

They knew exactly what pick they needed to get him.

A week ago Geelong traded for pick 27. Why do you think they moved up again? Because the whole world knew what we were doing!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
