No one was talking about Holmes until Twomey’s phantom and then Geelong trade in right in front of us. If we kept things close they wouldn’t have known

Absolute rubbish. I was listening to a podcast on a different sport, just happened to be about drafting and holds true for all sports.

”So what is the science or art about trading up or down for a player you want?”

”Its a little bit of art and a lot of knowledge, I know 95% of the recruiting staff from every other team, if I have a player I like I’ll go to a number of games to watch him (sometimes 20+ games) and also to watch who else is watching him.
I’ll see xx club or xx clubs in attendance. We’ll also the ask him who has shown the most interest.. then with that info we get a bead on which clubs are keen. We then look at the draft order and his potential drafting position and make a call from there. If we believe we can stay put, move up or move down. One thing we can’t control is any info that comes from his network (agent or family).”

I doubt both will end up permanent small forwards. Caleb Daniels is the model for both i reckon

Kozzie is a star. Granted they want goals (which will come) bur they won't mind low possession numbers.

So we’ve pulled a swifty and drafted 2 half back flankers?

I hope one of these two is prolific with goal assists and goal kicking, we need it

They moved up right ahead of our pick!!!!!

They knew exactly what pick they needed to get him.

A week ago Geelong traded for pick 27. Why do you think they moved up again? Because the whole world knew what we were doing!

Hysterics is coming into play here.

I haven't experienced waterboarding but I suspect it would be more enjoyable than reading your one point repackaged into 5 or 6 posts. We get it. You're not happy...again.

Geelong then us....

Carroll on the board

Edit: prepare for us to pass on Carroll and go for another small... :D

Geelong to steal who we want again? ?

You're presuming we wanted Holmes at that pick.

This draft has been excruciatingly slow. It’s horrible to watch.

Daniels really operates between the arcs, getting the ball at or near the contest. Sets up their transition from defence, gets it to their outside players like mcrae and to a lesser extent hits the last kick inside 50. The best kick in the AFL in my humble.

His disposal efficiency is absolutely critical to the dog's game.

We are desperate for a similar player.

I've been pretty strong on our poor balance up forward, especially regarding our lack of small forwards. Well now we have picked 3 players in the first round (including Kozzie) in the past 2 years of different types, that can address that need. Considering our smalls in the last round were Kozzie, Spargo and Hunt .... there's definitely significant scope for improvement.

Plus they're two of the best users in the draft, so they have scope to play higher up the ground.

You’re right, I have no idea, but I still want to blame the Cats ?

Feel for that O’Driscoll kid. His highlights were pretty bad. Surely he did some good stuff?

I think you'll see that Hunt may be the one they try and train up for that wing role potentially?

Unlike Melbourne to continue to not think at all.

The draft is so vital. You have to guard your order like state secrets especially with a high upside bolter who fits a huge need. Once again we’ve made it so easy for the opposition.

Maybe after we interviewed Holmes recently he blabbed to his friends and the secret got out. Not necessarily our fault.

Ok. Carroll on the board.

Happy that we haven't missed out...

But do we pick him?

How many small forwards do we need? Kossie, Spargo, ANB, Chandler, Viney, who I would like to see play as a defensive forward/mid, Bedford, Hunt....now two more!

Some of them ain't very good tho!

Tim Lamb is on the phone..

Something is up?

Probably trying to trade out our pick (the old #28)

Fraser Rosman. 194cm wingman.

Carroll is this year's Young. The Demonland consensus pick never gets chosen.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
