Was listening to SEN and Derwayne mentioned that Jackson won't make it as a ruck and the only way he'll carve a career in this league is if he's played exclusively as a key forward.

Is he jumping the gun?

Does he have a point?ย

Was Jackson that poor in his one game as starting ruck V's North and as a relief ruckman in his other 5 games?

Be interested to hear what you all think his best position will be.

Thought Russell was being a little too harsh on the back of a 200cm kid having a 6 game taste.

ADMIN EDIT:

Here is the actual audio.

ADDITIONAL ADMIN EDIT:

Found the call:

ย

Yet if he was at Geelong he would be future 5 time All Australian and 3 premierships. Derwayne plz.

I heard a bit of this diatribe as i was leaving the house.ย
Dwayne considers his opinions as solid fact and then runs with it all afternoon.ย
LJ could be the number one player in the game in 2-3 years time.ย
dwayne could only dream of such heights.ย
He still believes Jeelong is in a Premiership Window...

The kid has just turned 19 FCS.ย  Coincidentally, 19 is Dwayne's IQ.

Terrible call

Jackson looked good in the Ruck against Goldy. Then he got injured after that.ย His real strength as everyoneย knows (except Dwayne) isย that he plays as another midfielder when it hits the ground. Looks every bit a Grundy clone (the good Grundyย version) to me.ย

I prefer him as a forward tbh, but to write him off as a ruckman at age 19, after a very good first year split between ruck/forward,ย is just being provocative.

ย

Dwayne Russell. โ€œBuilt like Tarzan and played like Janeโ€. ย He was projected himself as a superstar but was a bit of a dud. Canโ€™t believe his opinion gets any credit.ย
ย

Jackson will be one of the most exciting players to watch in the next few years. ย Heโ€™s raw but you can see his energy.ย Perhaps the most athletic ruckman since Natanui/Grundyย with his follow up work. ย
ย

My only knock on Jackson is โ€œhe is from WAโ€ and the โ€œgo homeโ€ offers on big $$$ from theย Eagles and Freo will come sooner rather than later.ย

Goldstein won the hit outs, but I thought Jacko did more around the ground.

The question is not: will he make it as a ruck?

The question should be: what else can he do to maximise his value?

Personally Iย think we shouldnโ€™t try to make him in to Grundy but rather aim for something like Goodes. Mid/forward/ruck utility.ย

Iโ€™d have him spending time on the wing as well as forward and ruck this year.

Who cares what people think about him. Jackson like all our players has it in his own hands whether he can be effective in various roles. Let actions talk.

Unfortunately our players over the years have tended to deliver less than what they're capable of...hence commentators seemingly 'picking on' the MFC. Hopefully Jackson is one of the guys to start turning the tide.

Iโ€™m more confident now Derwahyne is saying that. He is the pits in all facets of the game. Was a poor footballer whoโ€™s commentary makes his footballing ability seem Ablett like.ย

Agree.

I would be disappointed if we try and make him the main ruck. That position is fading in relevance and is more easilyย filled by a dinosaur as most clubs tend to do these days.

Makes no sense at all from Dwayne.ย

However with how redundant the ruck position has become I'd much rather see LJ become a star forward.

Ahh yes. Mods, please change the date to 3 December if you wouldn't mind.

wouldn't bother, not like derwayne is going to be some historic figure where we had to remember the date and where we were when he made his declaration on luke jackson

1 + 2 = 3... I suggest you give up on the numerology BBP.

The day I no longer have to listen to Dwayne Russell commentate will be a nice day

Iย think the best footy commentator is the one with laryngitis at the time.

To be fair though, it is just am opinion and we all know they are just like bums ( the polite word ), everybody has one.

LJ will be a gun and I suspect another East Freo boy (Carroll) will be drafted to allow the Dees to have a WA flavour with the hope they stick together at the Dees. Where will he end up playing will depend on the coach, game plan, opportunities etc. But I believe he will be a jet as a forward ruck combo

Totally with you here 'Dee'...

He has so many strings to his bow I'm sure we won't restrict him as a pure ruck and use him were we need him best.

Even Goody said he could be used as a mid.

Goodes is an excellent comparison.

Surely you are exaggerating - missed the decimal point - 1.9

In the mid 1950s the greatest coach of all time had a brilliant and totally innovative idea. ย Instead of running two lumbering ruckman and a rover follow the ball around all day, of course with โ€œrestingโ€ ruckman in the forward and back pockets, he had this young athletic guyย named Barassi who would run around doing a bit of ruck work and a bit of roving, and a bit of goal kicking when โ€œrestingโ€ forward. ย The first ruck-rover was invented.ย
Young Jackson fits the rรดle, and hopefully takes part in a similar age of success as did young RDB.ย

Der-wayne is going to need a safe-word in a few yearsย

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking?ย I mean by โ€œtheyโ€ the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.Itโ€™s no secret that the Demonsโ€™ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack.ย Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryanโ€™s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winningย 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Itโ€™s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round.
