Dodoro's version of Essendon is like the Victorian border...

"You can get in but can't get out"

I suspect Joe Daniher thinks it's Hotel California where you can check out any time you like but you can never leave.

It looks like the Lions offer to Daniher will get Ess an end of first round comp pick at best.  So Ess now make demands of Lions to improve offer to Daniher or they will match to force a trade.

Its time someone stopped their stupid ambit claims that disrupt the whole trade period.  Would love to see Lions call their bluff and let them match and threaten to walk away.

God the herald sun love getting Hird's father involved. The bloke only played 4 games for the dons. Now he is trying to blame David Evans. Seriously your son stuffed up and trusted the wrong people.

My issue is I don't care if what was taken was illegal or not it was morally disgraceful what they did to the players.

Maybe he needs one of those 'I did nothing wrong' T-shirts which are currently in vogue in state politics?

I think that doesn't help Daniher or hurt Essendon though. Lions are probably paying way under what essendon can afford, so if they put the offer in at whatever it is, and Essendon match.. To me that equals Essendon winning big time as they get Daniher for a long term deal for way less money. So although i agree with you that it would be good to let them match as a stuff you, in this case it won't work (it would be a gift).

If Jeremy cameron was a restricted free agent (hypothetically) on the other hand and say he wanted to go to geelong for 50-100k more than GWS was offereing and GWS said no we are matching. Then that is a situation where i can see it [censored] GWS up as they are meant to be super tight on salary space (although surely with williams gone this isn't so much the case, but worst comes to worse they pay cameron more than they wanted to and they may lose another player later :).

Chicks for free? Sure you didn't mean to post this in the Jesse Hogan thread? Although his "chick" cost him 8k.

From what I read the issue with the Brisb offer it is for 3 years with a low base (and a lot of add-ons which is not unreasonable because no-one knows how many games he will play).  But the AFL FA comp formula of secret herbs and spices doesn't consider the add-ons.

I would think the AFL and the PA would step in and arbitrate before Daniher is forced to stay at Ess.

Lions calling Ess bluff to walk away would be to force them to be reasonable and not make ridiculous ambit demands of destination clubs and waste everyone's time.

Essendon start negotiations by asking for Curnow.

Carlton agree but ask for some loose change late draft picks, as they really value having a mature body in the midfield...

I mean, really, Saad for Walsh, Curnow or McKay is like... well, it's like trying to trade a very handy mature player for a young potential superstar.

They can have Curnow, He can replace Daniher on their injury list.

What is the point of contracting players long term to a club they don't want to be at? Recipe for disaster, I'd reckon.

Yesterday, the last 3 teams left in the comp were all members of the cat family. Essendon, currently undergoing a crisis of culture, have decided to return to their true culture plus embrace that winning feline feeling, as the Essendon Cheetahs. Make Great Drugs Again.

He is teflon. Rutten goes before him. Dodoro is an 'Essendon person'. Expecting Hird to be in some role soon.

I hear Mitch McGovern might be part of the Saad deal...not quite Curnow, Walsh or Mackay but he's probably ok for them.

Saad is a decent player but surely only Essendon are delusional enough to think he is worth any of Curnow, McKay or Walsh. Saad + a very handy pick might bring Carlton to the table.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
