Best year injury-wise for as long as I can remember. Ā Very few soft-tissue injuries too, which is quite the feat given the compact fixture. Hard to argue the correlationĀ with his arrival and thereā€™d be a strong argument for theĀ causation

he had alot of luck, as all ops were done early leading into hisĀ pre season,Ā as opposed to the prior seasonĀ where we carried over injuries due toĀ our bid to win the granny. having said that, heĀ appear to be doing well and oversaw minimal reinjuries which is a big tick

Playing devil's advocate, even if Adelaide offer Burgess more money, why would he choose to move to the [censored] hole that is Adelaide? Unless he wants to live in SA then this is a rubbish story.

Burgess is top drawer. Heā€™s worked for Liverpool and Arsenal and turned down offers from the US. We did very well to lure to the club but thereā€™s no way we hold onto him for long. With soft cap constraints we canā€™t afford him and I wouldnā€™t be surprised if he takes up another overseas appointment.

Hopefully we can keep him for another 12 months with a view to him setting up our long-term fitness program and mentoring his successor. Iā€™d hate to lose him to another AFL team.

I found it strange at the time it was a one year deal. Burgess is one of the biggest signings we need to complete ASAP.

Playing devils advocate here, but I wouldnā€™t say that out fitness levels were overly superiority compared to other clubs.Ā

Given Port finished on top, and we finished 9th, Iā€™d be happy to return serve, and poach their fitness guru

Sorry guys, misread the title, thought it was Port on the poach

Being on a one year deal -Ā  what's Josh M and Pert being doing recentlty if they value the bloke -Ā  should be tied down contractually by now -Ā  amateur hour.

He's from SA chook,Ā it's alot better than Melbourne atm.

Sure, but it has about two months left until it gets relegated back to the C Division.Ā

Well if Burgess is on the move what's this guy doing now....

In the scheme of 1-10 this issue rates around 3

completely disagree

unless you mean that fitness is in the top three most important things for the footy dept, in which case i'd 100% agree

Wasn't it mentioned on this board a while ago that he had apparently signed for next year?

Forgot who mention it though..

In the early-ish stages of COVID I was told he was locked in for next year, bit worried about that now given nothing has been announced though.Ā

Lock it in Eddie. Wait. Iā€™d like to use a lifeline.Ā

To be fair youā€™d reckon theyā€™re not sitting on their hands here. If he hasnā€™t signed and theyā€™d announce it if he had then thereā€™s a good chance heā€™s gone/going.Ā

Acquire Burgess, play one round, season off for eight weeks,Ā season returns to reduced quarters, miss finals by a game, lose Burgess. How Melbourne is that.Ā

Interviews with him show him to be a very thoughtful and intelligent person, so it must be Ā pretty draining having to dealĀ with ourĀ coach.Ā

i rate fitness coaches as critical to success and this guy is one of the best.Ā  I too thought he was only one contract for one year and thought it must be a lifestyle choice as much as anything (no shortage of takers).Ā  A must retain for meĀ

I wonder if the players themselves had something to do with finishing on top the ladderĀ

Weā€™ve had the benefit of 12 months of learning from him.Ā
If he goes he goes but surely weā€™re not dumb enough to completely turf out his programs and methods altogether.Ā
Thereā€™s no doubt the groupĀ was in better condition from 1 year with Burgess than all those years spent with Misson.Ā
