If the Dogs win so be it. We had our chances and dropped   our guard  and in all honesty we don't deserve to be there.

That doesn't mean that l like to see the Dogs in instead of the Dees. The hell with that!     Come on Freo i will be barracking like there is no tomorrow.

The pressure will be on the Dogs and Freo's team looks good on paper even though Walters is not there.

However Hogan could be the difference. So go my new team for the day.

Hopefully in the interests of fairness the doggies are just getting on the plane now to fly up to Cairns

Freo to give the doggies a game but ultimately one team playing for finals and the other thinking of the beach. Doggies by 25 points.

Walters a huge out, but hopefully the forecast dry conditions suit the Freo marking talls, come on Hoges. As for Dogs tall forwards, Josh Bruce is very hit or miss, which can put too much pressure on Naughton. The Bulldogs midfield is their strength, but Freo’s is running pretty hot lately and can match them. As we are painfully aware, Freo has had recent success on this ground. I’m a bit surprised by Freo odds, 3.25, I’d have thought 2.4 or even less. But then, I’m not a professional. My natural pessimism over-rides all of the above arguments, Dogs to win.

Nope. They got there late yesterday and even had a light training session at Cazaly. ?

I am all for one game, one week at a time but the prospect that  a drubbing in the West next week could set this Club back again has me quiet uncaring today. Never thought I would feel like that after 60 years of support.

Could not agree more.
We play 1 decent quarter a game.
Sometimes 2.
That won't cut it in a final.

I drew the Veil of Negativity after the Swans debacle.

Dogs by 30.

Cant see how Freo will kick a big enough score to win, especially with Walters out.

So frustrating we put ourselves in this position. We still remain a mentally soft club.

Heart:  Dockers somehow

Head:  Dogs have too much steel, and a lot to play for

Verdict:  Head comfortably

Consolation:  Trade / Free Agency / Draft

All too familiar!

Sorry to those posting we don't deserve to be in the finals -  but if Dogs lose today, presumably they don't deserve to be in the finals either.   I wonder how the AFL will manage a final 7.

Logic on Demonland?

Exacctly.

How can we not deserve to be in the 8 if we are in the 8?  If you are in there you are in there.

Heave ho Freo!

Fyfe, Hogan, Brsayshaw, Cerra, Lobb , Tabrener, Mundy, Ryan , Henry, Serong....  too much talent for the fragile Bulldogs.

Dockers by 24

Dees to play FINALS

yes, and a coach that can match Beveridge.

Melbourne are the only side that fall to pieces when they have a spot in the finals on the line. Saints, who many saw as a bottom 6 side at the start of the year, dug in & demolished the previous gf runner up to sow up their spot. We absolutely [censored] the bed in our 2 games, similar to what happened a few years ago against the pies in the last round. The Dogs will put it all on the line & they will get it done. This week has been a media wanc fest over us keeping the fire burning, having it all to play for blah blah blah. The plot should’ve been focused on how we blew it & the last win against essendon is just rubbing salt in our wounds. stuff you melbourne

Freo have zero to play for. mad Monday plans will getting made

Dogs have everything to play For. Will be over within 10 minutes

I’m tipping that the Bulldogs will have things sewn up by half-time.

As much as I want us to play finals, I can live without seeing Gawn getting destroyed by Naitanui and West Cost just walking the ball out of centre clearances.

I’m not very confident today but I’m more confident than if it was us playing the Bulldogs or even the Dockers for a finals spot.

Better that we leave it in the hands of a competent coach and playing group that will give it 4 quarters.

In any event Bulldogs will not drop a game like this.

We’ll know within 10 minutes whether we’re a chance. Bulldogs don’t fail to take their chances like we do. They’ll end up winning by 50 plus like a Granny that’s over after halftime.

I know Freo  are big in Westralia but I always considered them a nonentity  club !

Now we find ourselves hanging on their coat tails.

Anyway they are in @Ethan Tremblayterritory so I'll wait on his deeply considered insights and prognostications.

I’m a member of a Dockers WhatsApp group that has heaps of ex-Dockers people in it and they reckon they’re going to win easily. No one talks rubbish in those things so I reckon Fremantle will get the job done. Bulldogs by 37 points.

Thanks for clearing that up Ethan.

Honestly I think it’s a snowball’s chance in hell. Dogs will throw everything at them.

But it ain’t over til it’s over. If there’s one thing Freo know how to do it is defend well and stay in games.

Pretty sure they were there yesterday. That's how it works for everyone else.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
