A very composed game from the youngster who is quietly having an excellent debut season. Is he in the mix for a Rising Star nomination?

Riccardi kicked 4 don't think he's been nominated yet.

Riccardi this week, but hopefully stays in the side for the rest of the year and gets one.

Rivers won the rising star award didn't he?

You're thinking of 2004.

That Rivers is now the new coach of Collegians in the VAFA.

Seriously good player this kid. Plays with the poise of a 100 game player in his first season. Last night's game should completely shut the gate on the Harmes at half back experiment

He wont get the nomination over Riccardi this week. But he's only played 5 games with just 4 H&A games to go. Odds high that he'll still be eligible next year. If he can get a nomination in the run home, both he and LJ will be a chance to add to our list of multi-nomination players. Jones, Blease and Gysberts is some real hit and miss company

Agreed.

Rivers is the last piece of our back six

His chances are very low, but a few of the commentators were wraps on him. Think he's going to be a beauty for us.

Taylor just nails those picks in the 20s and early 30s. And he's got another of those this year. ?

There is alot to like about  the young boy in Rivers he plays like he belongs out there and the game in the last quarter was full of pressure acts and he stood up when it counted .  Has what it takes and looks cool under pressure.

Not far from a Rising star nomination.

I doubt he'll get it this week.

However, that doesn't take anything away from the fact that we have a really good young player on our hands here.  Has maturity, courage and is a good user of the footy.  He should be playing on our half back line for the next decade at least.

Competitive and skilled on both sides. Exactly what we have been lacking off half back.  Will take a bit more time to get consistency but looks the part and maybe be able to move up the ground with time

He's a real footballer's footballer this kid but also has the spring and toe to be something extra.

He's averaging 74% efficiency, just above AFL average, and our 5th best intercept player this season behind some significant seniors up top.  Looking forward to watching this young fella's career develop.

The guy can play, has a bit of much needed speed too. He also just has those natural smarts and knows where to be.

Slightly tangential, but I'm not a fan of the way the Rising Star is determined. I have no problem with a player each week being nominated, but the Rising Star for the year should be chosen from any player who meets the age/games played criteria, not just those who receive a weekly nomination. What you see in the last few weeks of the year are players being nominated for the weekly award who don't really deserve it for the last game they played, just to make sure they are eligible for the annual award.

Quite a tough nut as well.
