  • So if Gawn doesn’t play, it certainly levels the game up very quickly.
  • Gawn hasn't been named. Scared of getting the usual bath from Grundy, I suppose.
  • Pruess be a Poor Man Mumford by trying to Rough up Grundy.
  • Pruess isn’t a real ruck, I actually rate him, but he’s a Mumford crash and bash type who’ll try to hurt his opponent.

I still remember that time when Witts, Grundy and Cox were all selected to combat Gawn and Max destroyed them all single-handedly.

Then there's that time where Max got 34 touches against Grundy... just last year, in fact.

It's an argument I try to have 'fun' with outwardly with Collingwood supporters about who is better, but I secretly boil inside :P

Another thing that surprises me is opposition supporters don't seem to rate Oliver.  There's always talk of Gawn and Petracca, and to a lesser extent Brayshaw and Viney.  Any theories?

Oliver is the pinball wizard. Gets plenty of hard ball and loose ball with his quick reflexes. Doesn't always damage with his disposal and goes unnoticed coz he doesn't hold the ball long quick disposal his forte. Often the one two tree four links are lost at another point in the trail so not as damaging.  He also doesn't shepherd and jogs off the ball so can allow space for opponents.Nouestioning his work rate which is consistently forged in the boiler house but he gets no release with umpire protection so can fatigue  and be less effective.

Love him and when he is on we are a lot better. The coach should use him as a barometer. When he's good he's very good when he's off he should be taken off and rested.

I think its the opposite.  They don't mention him because they know he cant be stopped.   The guy just gets the ball it doesn't matter whos on him or what tactics are employed.

Its a crime how underrated he is despite being an AA at such a  young age and his statistical domination.

Agree. If he was at Collingwood, Essendon or Hawthorn, the media would cream themselves over him.

FWIW . . .

  • I trawl the different opposite forums, mostly looking for patterns and themes. Oliver was not mentioned in any of the fora this week that I can recall.
  • Most fora degenerate into 'group think' and latch on to a weekly theme. Only natural and fully human to do that I think.
  • A significant percentage of supporters at most clubs dislike their coach, footy department, head recruiter, president/chair and the AFL.
  • I would say most opposition supporters that voice an opinion about the Deez, voice a negative one.
  • There is almost universal respect for Max. I think I can only remember one derogatory comment this year.

How many suffer from their version of MFCSS?  Or are we unique?

Just a few I have noticed over the years

Port followers definitely have a "we will fail as the season progresses" ethos.

I found Hawks the most arrogant with their 2018 poll on how many premierships Clarkson would deliver post 2018...not if but how many !!!

Freo think they are the drafting kings.

Essendon are believers.

Richmond are feral ( the thread on what they thought of Hugh Rimmington the reporter who broke the Chol story is a classic)

Have never been to the Saints board but I would like to think they are similar to us.

  • That was woeful. With all due respect to our opponents, who outplayed us in every facet of the game, the Dees are a nothing side. They've picked up their wins over the worst sides in the comp and are one of the most average teams going around. They made us look like a bottom 2 VFL side.
  • Another week of a dysfunctional forward line, the result was inevitable.
  • So Instead of us all complaining on here let’s all send an email to the club and demand change. Change in admin, coaches and recruiting. They won’t do anything unless they know how [censored] off we are especially Eddie and bucks.
  • Won the inside 50s and got rolled by 9 goals. That's impressive....
  • Fair play to Melbourne, they demolished us and have improved. That's three consecutive 50+ point wins for them.

With all due respect, <statement that doesn’t show a shred of respect>.

Oh well, suck it, losers.

? How's this for grasp of the English language? "With all due respect to our opponents..." and then goes on to say we're a nothing side. Haha. Brilliant.

Love how he gets the knees up. Stopped just short of us seeing an AFL coach plant feet on the wall trying in vain to rip a railing apart on National TV. That would have been priceless!

It's like when someone says I'm not racist or I'm not sexist but...

then they say something racist or sexist.

With all due respect we are coming.

Exactly what I was thinking, the old “I don’t want to offend anyone but...” [insert offensive comment].

What this shows is that Collingwood with the players they currently have out are a bottom 10 team. We can only beat who we’ve played and we should’ve got at least one win against either the Cats or Lions but choked.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
