Agree with everything you said apart from this - 'dash'  and Tomlinson in the same sentence. He runs hard but, not by any stretch of the imagination is dash involved. He's lumbering. I'm not saying he should necessarily be dropped either.

Spargo?? Are you serious? He had 7 score involvements and barely wasted the ball.

Did some actually watched tonights game?

Calm down dd. It’s not like Melk will be dropped who I would prefer but won’t happen.

I'm calm as always OX ?

But honestly, Spargo played his role tonight. He did something tonight that unfortunately Bennell hasn't been able to do and thats continue to harrass and put pressure on their forwards.

He stays in for now.

Lever potentially has a hand injury of some kind. Second hand info, but apparently was hoding it behind his back post-match and not shaking hands, high-fiving etc. Fingers crossed it's nothing.

OUT: vandenBerg, Harmes, Jones, (TMac if Gawn plays)

IN: Viney, Lockhart, Bennell, (Gawn if fit)

vandenBerg with 11 disposals - 4 turnovers, 6 clangers. Must be dropped.

Goodwin said post-match tonight that they're "hopeful, really hopeful" Max will be right next week. Gave the impression they'll name him and given him til the last minute to pull up.

Just like Omac got embarrassed by a kid and got dropped for it. We all saw it and Goodwin did too.

Omac is just slow. Who does he match up next week Bin? Serious question?

Dazzler you can't be serious about Omac. Surely you read what i posted about that game. I don't want to play the old 'i expected more from you' card, but do.

Omac got dropped for a reason, but it wasn't Georgiades, that is for sure and certain.

Tomlinson was rubbish tonight. He has no idea how to defend and is terrible one one one. Which to be fair is not that surprising seeing he is not a defender.

As i say, he gave them all 3 of their first quarter goals. They only kicked 5 for the match and over half were his fault!

Basically schooled, in your parlance, by a 22 year old kid. Had to take him off him before the end of the first quarter. You would have gone nuts on Omac if that were him.

And, by the by he is much slower than Omac.

You are right about a match up for Omac next week. They play small up there so don' t need a third tall. Hibberd is in excellent form and can take either Stephenson and may will kill Miockeck, leaving Lever to be a damaging intercept player.

So no Omac.

And surely no Tomlinos down back. Maybe Goody might play him in the position we paid well overs for him to play. If not on the wing then he has to go out.

For god sake play Harmes as a tagger against sidebum.

There is a time to play a lock down and there isn't.  This is a must imv as he is their go to guy so much of the time right now and always a potential game breaker.

You have my vote Ox

Definitely not dropping T'mac on tonights stats (13 disposals, 7 tackles, 3 marks and a goal). You can't drop a man with those numbers. however the three tall forward did not work against port so i'm scratching my head as to what to do. if he does go, i think that would be very stiff.

which therefore means,

out: Harmes, Tomlinson

Ins: Viney, Gawn

Yes he will be stiff but it's the right move if Gawn is right to go....

It's simply because Weid and Jackson have passed him now.

I'd like us to bring in Bennell for some outside class I think maybe AVB needs a rest.

This is a tough selection this week. It’s a good problem to have though.

... stiff you say? Old “Lurch” McD will be stiff to get a game this week.

We need to keep playing Tom, we need Weed and him there in the forward 50 with Jacko resting there with our mid sized forwards.

Hannan? Gee wiz what game were you watching? Took some good contested marks and really got us going his pressure was up. He stays without out doubt.

I do wonder whether we need to rest Jacko at some stage. He's played 2 games in a row off 4 day break (doesn't seem to affect him) and eventually he'll need a breather.

Did McDonald do enough tonight?

In typical Hannan fashion was engaged in the game for a quarter and then hardly seen otherwise. I think even if Gawn plays they won’t want to run him in ruck as hard as normal. If we we play with two true smalls , with LJ playing 65% game time and Gawn more like 80% than normal I would play TMac as well as was serviceable. I would like to see us have 2 tall forwards at all times.

T Mac is an important senior player. He worked in to some form so no way he should be dropped. 7 tackles amongst his good work.

harmes and melksham should be dropped. Jones and Tomo might be trouble also. But let’s see how they balance the talls and the defenders

32 minutes ago, WERRIDEE said:

How can you drop Hannan? He was great especially early. Lockhart will have to bide his time. Harmes is playing a different role need to give him more time. We are no good with 3 talls stick with Gawn, Dogga and Weid.

Harmes was poor and has been for weeks. He cant play half back and we refuse to tag him. If we send him to Sidebottom next week he gets a reprieve but otherwise needs to go. Hannan was non impactful bar other than a period where he took 2 nice grabs.

Haven’t lost faith in Harmes. He’s just not in good form. He makes way for Viney.

T Mac an obvious out for mine. He’s simply not in our best 22. Slow, clumsy and can’t jump. He will hinder us against good sides. Not to mention playing all three talls along with Gawn spelled disaster last time.

out: T Mac, Harmes

In: Gawn, Viney

When only the two leading goal kickers in The Coleman are just averaging over 2 goals what are people expectations of other forwards.

Seems like many on Demonland expect our forwards to all contribute 2 goals most weeks!

Think Harmes has had a few rotten weeks and probably needs a rest and reset. AVB seems to be a barometer but could use a rest as well. Jones was quiet again and really hasnt offered much in any of his games to date. Staunch believer we rested Bennell and his calfs this week so reckon it could be -

INS: Viney, Gawn, Bennell

OUTS: Jones, AVB, Harmes

Obviously a bit stiff on some of our harder nuts, particularly AVB this week but think Jones and Harmes are justified given their output in recent weeks. I really think Bennell just offers a much dangerous element to our forward setup when he's in the side - really only needs a few touches to break a game open given his fitness.

Gawn and Viney are automatic inclusions if fit.

IMO, Viney takes Jones' spot. That's a relatively like-for-like swap, although they'll want Viney in the middle more. Jones just isn't adding enough. It's sad, but it's reality.

If Gawn's fit then TMac has to go. I didn't rate his performance anywhere near as highly as others on here. Yes, 7 tackles is a great figure, but he was tackling because he was dropping it, fumbling it and generally not being effective. Weideman is clearly our number 1 forward and on current form Jackson is better than TMac. We can't go in with three talls, nor should we, so unless Jackson needs a rest, TMac goes.

If Lockhart's fit he deserves his spot back IMO, but Rivers doesn't deserve to be dropped. Harmes surely has to come under pressure here.

So I'm thinking Gawn, Viney and Lockhart replace TMac, Jones and Harmes. TMac stays if Gawn isn't fit (and Gawn doesn't play if he's not fit enough. Last thing we can afford is to play Gawn too early and ruin the rest of the season).

The alternative to Jones being dropped is vandenBerg IMO. Just makes way, way too many errors. His aggression is nice, but he's a liability with ball in hand right now, and I just don't think we can keep that in the side.

I'm not sure OMac comes back this week or next given our opponents play mid/small forward lines. Tomlinson maybe gets a reprieve on that basis (able to be moved around the ground a bit).

Jones has been a liability for a long time. He picks out an opposition player and kicks or hand passes it directly to him. Tomlinson is slow and contributed nothing tonight. If Viney is right he should come into the side to replace Jones. Gawn should only come back in if completely recovered from his injury. What about considering Bennell or Jetta for selection? It doesn’t always have to be a like for like swap. Players can be shifted around. And what has happened to Mitch Brown and Preuss? What was the point of recruiting them if we’re never going to play them?

Out: T Mc.. In: Gawn (if fit). Sorry Tom but that’s no debate.

Out: Jones. In: Lockhart. (Harmes goes to the 3rd wing/forward). Harmes is too good to leave out, just got to find the right role. If everything else fails we have a utility to move around.

Out: Hannan. In: Viney. I like Mitch in the side but we can rotate the 5 mids through the half forward line. Vanders, Sparrow and Spargo stay for now.

Out: Tomlinson. In: Joel Smith. Tomlinson is not a key defender, let’s stop with that right now. Smith might not be popular but we need someone to play on Mihocek who plays as a traditional lead up and back key forward. He’s too strong for Lever, too quick for Oscar or Tomlinson.

Is it at the gabba or carrara?

Either way can’t see them going with the three talls plus Gawn

IN: Viney, Gawn

OUT: Jones, T Mac

Lockhart had a big bandage on his knee but who knows whether he’ll be right; a lot to like about Rivers

In: Gawn, Viney

Out: Harmes, AVB

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
