We ran into the two worst teams in the comp at the perfect time....smacked them off the park and hopefully that gives the boys confidence to go on with this season. Agree that Gus always plays way better when Jack is out, not sure what to do about the balance of our midfield when both are fit

Umps tried their best to give norf the game - 3 frees vs 10 in the first 1/4 - they got some very soft one and we couldn't buy one. Despite this we should have been 3 goals up at 1/4 time.

Kick the [censored] goals - especially early - we kept them in it as much as the umps did. Do that against the pies next week and we will find ourselves 6 goals down at quarter time

Great second half as we were allowed to get on top of North when finally the umpires largely put their whistles away and let the game flow. The first quarter umpiring should be subject to an AFL review, it was putrid and bordering on corrupt.

Langdon did a number of good kicks. The shocking kick thing is massively overplayed and is nothing but confirmation bias.

He kicks at full pace, which is pacier than everyone else’s version of full pace. There will be the odd shank.

It's very hard to pick up on TV (as opposed to being at the game) but I suspect his pace is making it much harder for the opposition backs to organise themselves against us.

Especially interested in opinion from those who did on Jackson,  McDonald, Spargc.

all 3 played well, would say 1. Jackson 2. McDonald 3. Spargo if you had to rank them

Loving the kicks > handballs count for Oliver. It was beautiful seeing he and Trac bursting clear of packs and getting it on the boot tonight.

Win AND percentage. GO DEMONS!!!

Weideman really starting to look like a class act. Not quite there but trajectory is right. needs to work on straight kicking though!!

Jackson gets ragdolled by stronger/more experienced rucks but is so agile he bounces back anyway. Imagine when he's got his  sea legs

Langdon has a lot of good football instincts but by god he is a shocking kick

Tracc nearly in the elite category but goalkicking finishing is the icing on the cake

Now if we can get rid of some our passengers faithful warriors whose best days are behind them

Spargo has his limitations but I'd rather him in than Jones because Spargo has upside whereas Jones has none any more. He's (Spargo's) a natural footballer in an era of athlete-footballers

Tommy, it's hard to see as a regular in the side any more, but with a "see ball get ball" directive, looked better (damning him with faint praise) than he has since 2018

Langdon...disposal efficiency 83% ...

We still need to fix up our disposal into the forward line. Good win but work to do. Petracca is a bona fide A grader now. Oliver once again hung onto the footy and tried to open things up for us - which he did. He is improving thankfully. Sparrow looks good enough to replace whoever we move on next year out of Brayshaw or Viney.

We won the two games we were expected to win easily. We had every reason to overrun them given they were down to one on the bench and we had been all over them from the start of the second quarter, we just needed to start putting them through the bid sticks. This could’ve been an 80 point drubbing.

Jackson, Kozzie, Pickett, Sparrow.

Injecting some serious talent into our side once again.

Spargo was back to his best. Kept it simple and used the ball well. Courageous going in for that ball against Daw and bounced up like nothing happened.

Lever was our best backman by a mile. Kept everything in check.

I also thought Tomlinson was good. He rarely wasted the footy and gave us some good drive.

Langdon is a ridiculously hard worker. His running ability and workrate to create space and option on the outside cannot be faulted.

Petracca, Oliver, Brayshae.. all simply brilliant.

Hands up who think our midfield functions when Gus is in there full time instead of Viney?

Many many many hands @dazzledavey36 - it's a pragmatic decision that benefits the team immensely.

Don’t forget pies play in Adelaide Tuesday then fly to Brisbane to play us with 4 days break while we get a decent 1 now so big chance to roll them

While it was great to win well tonight and worth celebrating as it was North, beat the Pies next week and we’re on our way.

Trac, Oliver, & Brayshaw great out of the middle, I would have Viney in forward pocket, 50% of game time! Pickett one pocket, Viney the other!

Well, we did the job in fine style.

Petracca Really owned the title bull. Showed terriffic breakaway strength.

Jackson - last week was no fluke

Kossi - Jeez this kid will an Eddie Betts!!!

PS Silly me. Thoyght last weeks umpiring was [censored]

PPS. Has the over the shoulder too high rule been removed?

PPPS I'll let @picket fence comment on Spargos" game.

Go dees

BTW I made some good money on the punt today

Reckon you hit the shiraz VERY early Uncle!   And why not :pj:

Yep. That's the right call for one of their careers.

So impressed with Jackson. Playing in the ruck and knocking the ball to himself or handballing to a team mate. LJ at 18 years old, the things he does is similar to what Nic Nat does in the ruck. He is so mature for his age. He took it up to Goldstein like he has been around for ages. To me he is the pick of the crop. Congrats to the recruiters. A player for the future.

Jackson continues to improve, TMac meh, Spargo (unpopular opinion) good decision maker and improves our forward line.

Spargo was very good tonight.  The effort against Daw in the last just shows how hard he is.

Those umpires shd never ever umpire again

Don't bag the umpires Mr Mac, Gil and his cohorts will be after you.

Don’t know what to make of that. It was a training run.

We got out 8 points and from 2 crap sides and leave

well played boys

Move on

Gee that should of been an 80 point demolition tonight... No thanks to those Umpires (Umpire 31 really had it in for us tonight! a melbourne player must of slept with his wife). Fantastic effort by Oliver and Trac with Lever mopping everything up in defence.

Spargo's ball use inside 50 was fantastic, he was involved in several score chains and his side kick Kozzi looking just as dangerous.

How good is Jacko!!! looking forward to another decade with him dominating games for the Dees.

Any win against North is a good one, even when they (Norf) dont really want to win.

Bank it and pump the Eddies next week.

We are still in the season.

It didn't do them any good in terms of draft order for us to go up the ladder. They wanted to win alright. They had no proper way to score goals and their second tier players are not up to it.

How good is it to absolutely smash Norf?

My favorite thing about 2020. My wedding was good. But smashing Norf probably tops it ?

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
