AVB has been cleared of bone damage, however, that head clash early in the first quarter required 15 stitches above the eye on the same side as the cheekbone damage.  Unbelievably tough.

Certainly won't miss then.

As regular posters might know i am partial to punt on the footy.

Whilst of course the odds do not always reflect the outcome they remain the most accurate predictor of outcomes.

So as dees fans how do we feel about the odds for the roos game, which at the time of writing have dees as raging favorites at $1.51 and the line at plus 10.5?

By the by for te sake of comparison the line in the crows game was plus 14.5?

Was he good? He didn’t win the ball back, he mostly just existed against Adelaide’s crappy forwards and got a few uncontested touches.

AFL player ratings had him worst on ground for us.

I don’t have any faith in Tomlinson as a key defender, it’s just not his go. Where as Oscar has done the job on Day and Mitch Lewis. When Oscar has the right match up and is running on top of the ground he looks and plays like a proper tall defender. I’d be proactive and put him back in rather than waiting for Tomlinson to fail.

The same player ratings which have Steven May in the bottom half of players on the ground, when he was arguably second best behind Oliver?

Does the measure of a defender playing Tomlinson's role come from player rating points?

You say you don't want to wait for Tomlinson to fail. That's fair, but unfortunately for OMac we're in the same boat. He hasn't done enough to warrant having the faith that he won't fail in the coming weeks any more so than Tomlinson.

I wasn't in favour of dropping him for the Adelaide game, but I'd be more than comfortable backing Tomlinson in again vs North.

I'm a bit of a punter too.

I reckon we are the harshest critics of the Demons.  Objectively, we are in better form: 3 wins from last five Vs 1 win from last 5. North have key players out, probably ~6 best 22 injured.

We have more talent.

but of course none of that means we will win!   but on a neutral ground, I'll back us

No, however the psychological barriers might. The bloke is trying to come back after serious injury interlaced with personal issues. The pressure on him would be immense.  I don’t tolerate soft players but believe Harley should be cut some slack given his history.

That’s if Preuss is not right to go.

May has been penalised harshly for his poor unforced turnovers in the first quarter and probably for not taking enough intercept marks. Take marks, don't turn the ball over and you get high scores as he did in a lot of the rest of the game.

I think we set Oscar up to fail playing him on a short break and without a suitable opponent, not to mention the way the team played.

They'll likely stick with Tomlinson so I hope I'm wrong. He does have a better tank and more experience to deal with the quick turnaround, but I could also see someone like big Majak getting hold of him and next week we're sitting back saying why didn't we just play a fresh and trained up Oscar who suits the match up.

A bit harsh on Bennell, he is the finisher.

Not by the coaches.  Scored 6 in the AFLCA votes.  Split 4/2.

Thankfully the coaches don't look at Player Ratings or stats.  They look at Impact and playing their role.

I have it on reasonable authority that Gawn and Viney won't play this week due to injury.

I also understand a couple of others are carrying injuries and may not get up in time.

Take this with whatever grain of salt you'd like.

Pity Chris Lamb still doesn't play for us. Then I could make a pithy comment about garlic salt being the one I like.

Well we have had a great injury run so far so cant complain too much.  Hopefully they just miss this game.

Viney out would mean Brayshaw will get unleashed in the midfield and he has momentum from last game.  More Harmes in the midfield too.

Tomorrow at 6.20pm. It's always the night before the game with these compressed fixture rounds.

I don't know, sorry. I don't even know what the injury is.

Viney took a pretty big hit to his strapped shoulder during the game and IMO played out the game hurt.

Could be that possibly.

Anyones guess this week with changes. There will be a fair few sore players. I noticed a lot more aggression with our attack and tackling especially this week. Luckily we have a bit of depth this year in these situations.

Backs: Rivers, Jetta, Omac

Mids: JJ and Preuss. Although would most likely be just changing the rotations. If no Viney say then more Brayshaw/Sparrow/Harmes in the middle.

Forwards: Kozzy, Brown, Spargo, Hunt

PLEASE don't persist with bringing Tmac in this week ?

Agree - I think we need to manage a number of players this week.  The roos have more injuries and are also dealing with short breaks - I'd make as many changes as we can.

I'd love to see JJ come in and spend more time in the middle with Sparrow Brayshaw and Harmes.

After reading the HUN this morning I cannot see why we do not rest Gawn.

if they don’t rest him I will do something serious like not watch the game.

There MFC take that!

Obviously the prices have not been framed by a Dees supporter I would have the betting at  even money.
I hope they are correct.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
