POSTGAME: Rd 08 vs Brisbane

Well that was frustrating. They were a lot cleaner when the ball hit the turf until we started to click in the last quarter and really started to smash into the contests.  Fritta not handing the ball back really stuffed us at the end after Trac did so well to set up that one final chance. All those missed sitters in front of goal really cost us too. Viney was fantastic again and his kicking to a target has improved out of sight.

Season probably over now. Did it ever really start for us?

Time to see if Weid can take us anywhere.

Some decent signs but so many teams have passed us by.

Not totally his fault, dazzle.  Just went a moment too long as up till that point he held him up well.

I'm more disappointed in some of the easy shots we missed.  As titan pointed out above, we could have won by 2-3 goals.

Just hand the ball over. You're taught this right from auskick.

Have no idea why he needed to [censored] around with it when he was deep in the pocket. That then would have resulted in a kick down the line to a 50/50 contest for Brisbane.

Hope he gets his backside kicked hard.

Well, the Brions threw the kitchen sink at us. But the one thing MFC has over every other team ... the ONE THING ... is that we are the masters of frenetic chaos ball. So they tried to take us on at our own game. Credit where credit's due. They outdid us at that today.

Tried to rough up Gawn too. That's so 2019! But Max didn't have that much impact. So again, points to the Brions. They planned for this and it worked. What did our coaches plan for?

Brions are a well drilled team ... they have someone in position for every circumstance. In trouble? Kick wide, someone will be there.

It's understood that we have very little system. But taking that into consideration, ultimately, the difference between the teams? Ball handling. Ours just a bit off. Whether due to pressure, or we're simply not that skilled ... (I think I know which one to choose).

Sorry to say, Gus is now a liability. Is he a contributor? For every contribution, there are two [censored]ups. Either a fumble, a kick that's too high, a missed possession ... back to the twos, Gus.

Jackson kid ... knows where to go, what to do. With some experience, will be a weapon. Unless it's Goodwined out of him. Here's hoping.

Goddamn. The umps don't know what they're doing ... they are so lost ... "15" metre kicks ... incorrect disposal ... inexplicable decisions ... this is broken record stuff ... every week, every match. Is anyone in charge of the umpires department? AFL might like to consider putting someone in a role like that.

Seriously ... they are so bad, it should be a scandal ... every contest is a randomised outcome of free for, free against, or no decision, regardless of what actually takes place. In every match, not just MFC ones.

Congrats to the Brions, and if our coaches have any idea at all, they will learn from this and improve our side. I don't have much faith in them doing that.

That score review totally killed our momentum and the 50 was completely stupid on the part of that biased, corrupt individual.

It wasn’t two isolated incidents either, it was a shocking effort all night by the umpires for both teams. It’s getting to a point where there is too much interpretation and stuff changing week to week. notice as well how every Brisbane player looks for a free kick at every stoppage, literally they turn to the umpires to ask the question every time.

Tonight cut really deep.

We would have lost that by 10 goals last year.

We need to relax more when kicking for goal....

Max Viney supurb all night..

Bennell really wanted to kick that goal.....

We did well on away ground in the wet..

Sorry but there needs to be a Royal Commission into umpiring ....

Brisbane got the rub of the green on many things tonight, the Fritta 50m penalty was no different to 3-4 in the minutes prior that we’re ignored.

The stop of play on the Lever review was an absolute momentum killer. The commentators said we were lining up all the way past the wing ready to go.

Faaark! So frustrating.

Plenty of passengers tonight, just can’t afford that against the better sides

He stuffed around with it to make sure we could get set up behind the ball, but yes, he went a step too far and it hurt us in that situation.

No shame in losing to Brisbane but gee we were robbed. By the umps. By our goal kicking. By Hannan kicking OOB. We are our own worst enemy.

I thought that overall we did ok from the umpires. The last 50m against Fritsch was hard to digest, he was plainly confused .

Not the first time poor goal kicking cost us a game but this one hurts. We dominated the 3rd and butchered way too many opportunities.

Fritta should be dropped for that 50, inexcusable.

Plenty to like though,  we can match it with the best in the comp.

See ya Jetta. Its time you retire gracefully.

So many missed opportunities. Harley, Pickett, Harmes, Weideman.

The umpiring was dead set the worse ive seen it this year, and its been an absolute debacle.

I love Nev but have to agree here.  Time to bring Rivers in and while he might need managing on occasions he has to be played as much as possible from here on.

We are badly missing an in form Marty Hore for Oscar as well.  Oscar is ok if he doesn't get a 2nd tall forward that's both athletic and a strong overhead mark.  When he does he is cooked after about 2 quarters or so and the opp look to go through that player much of the time to take advantage.

Lots of mistakes, but Hannan's decision to kick to the pocket in that last play was beyond stupid.

Couldn't for the life of me figure the rationale behind this. But kicking to the pocket and out on the full definitely seemed like something our team would do when there was one more last ditch chance.

We shot ourselves in the foot what's new, but [censored] me why would you score review such a simple call clearly marked inside the field of play.

Did we want to play and kick for goal any worse, kicks smothered open goal misses, Bennell, Pickett, Langdon, Harmes and Weideman x2.

Oh and i haven't even unleashed on the umpiring a pack of ring holes the lot of them, no feel for the game whats so ever.

Thanks for letting the game continue Queensland here are a few frees to send our sincere gratitude from everyone at the AFL.

I'm shattered.  I'm worn out too, but shattered more than anything.

I felt like we deserved to win that game.  Apart from the second term where Brisbane played some scintillating footy, I thought we were the better side for most of the night.  I thought after half time our midfielders lifted superbly and our back line was absolutely fantastic.  They kept us in the game when we really needed it.

Viney was immense.  His ability to get out of traffic but weaving and fending off tacklers is sensational.  Oliver had another ripper game while Trac was fantastic yet again.  They are making a real difference for us.

Again, our back line was excellent.  They are setting up really well down there.  Cameron kicked a couple but outside of that he barely got a sniff, while Hipwood and McStay had little influence on the game.

Want to give a shout out to two players:

Melksham first.  Kicked three and is showing why we have persevered with him up to this point.  In these conditions he can be a classy player and it showed.

The second is for Jackson.  Tom Mac is going to find it hard to get back into the side with the kid playing the way he is.  Love his athleticism and you can see his confidence lifting.

And the umps can suck a big, fat one.  They sucked all night.

Onwards and upwards.  Go Dees.

We didn’t play the better Football

We missed 3-4 easy shots at goal

Good sides don’t miss them

Lots of hard work for nothing

Stafford and Goodwin have some serious work to do before Thursday

28 touches, 10 tackles, 15 contested possies and 5 clearances.

Might have missed a target or two in the conditions, but he worked his backside off for us all night.

And should’ve had several more score involvements had we kicked straight. He also noticeably went to another level in the second half. Had we won he would’ve been pivotal.

The last 30 seconds sums our game up, just smarts, the smarts to man up with a minute to go, the smarts to hit the top of the square instead of kicking out on the full, the smarts not to give away 50m.

Angus needs a spell, harmes the same.  Jones built into the game.  We need to play Tmac we need another tall option ad a hit up outside of Gawn.  Jackson and weiderman are playing well deep but we need another marking tall to present for that kick outside defensive 50

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
