Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I have no doubts that is true.

Given that why do you think goody said no injury problems in his post match presser as did burgess yesterday?

Clubs are very reluctant to talk about head & facial injuries. If possible and particularly if they can when a “high profile” player is not involved, they prefer to let those type of surgeries slip under the radar.

Because it can serve a purpose.

I'm struggling to see what the benefit here was. Maybe goody not wanting to bring the vibe down. But burgess?

At least it provides a very reasonable explanation, for his otherwise fairly average game on Sunday.  Given the circumstances we now know, his performance was nothing short of courageous and beyond the still very worthy on feild performance and physical presence he did provide, even the additional rotations he enabled for the team would have helped our performance.  What a great impact this kind of behavior would have on the team first culture of the club, littlerally bleeding for your mates attitude and morale the club that this bloke brings - priceless.

Just to further qualify my assessment of his performance a little further, it's not that I thought his game was that bad, but more that I was a little disappointed, because I was hoping to see something closer to Vanders at his best after some of the ferocious tackling and hard running he showed against the Suns.

Pleasantly surprised, I was fully expecting this to be a post bagging him.

A poster on another forum mentioned that vandenBerg’s tackles hurt more than any other player because they frequently cause turnovers.

I don’t reckon we’ve had a player like him at the MFC since I’ve been watching. A medium-tall with an extremely solid build whose greatest asset is defensive work. His tackles hurt in both the physical and footy sense. I’d be afraid if I was nearby.

Hopefully he is able to get a decent run at it - he was important in the finals in 2018 and has been so far this year.

Just to demur a little bit, Matthew Whelan, not quite as big as VDB but put the hurt on many, regardless of style, tidier disposal as well. What is excellent though is he puts the pressure on, but does not give away a lot of frees, and I can’t remember a report, very controlled aggression which is a fair skill.

Kozzies uncle when he played for us would nail a few blokes and always made our blokes stand tall. I was bit of an enforcer for Aaron Davey who would be targeted quite heavily during the 2006 year.

I don't get the secrecy here. Maybe from a tactical perspective.

Not taking anything away from AVB because he's tough as nails and would genuinely frighten opposition with him on your tail but tactically it's not like hiding an injury to a Max or Clarry or Trac or key position forward. I doubt it would change Brisbane's tactics one iota. Again no disrespect to vanders.

For me the omission from Burgess makes me doubt any of the information he gives out in the videos. Don't get me wrong Burgo could be the greatest thing that has happened to this club. Omissions like this have been a running theme from the club for years, probably all clubs but I only care about this one.

If injuries are so top secret why even provide these video updates and if they're not telling the whole truth which is evident here based on the intel in the OP how can we truly trust anything that is posted by the club.

Providing content is great but if you can't be honest for tactical reasons then don't release a clip saying we got through the match unscathed when a blokes had his cheek split in three places.

Thanks. That makes a lot of sense.

It has to come out at some point like it did today so whilst I understand that reasoning it's made redundant once the story comes out.

Why not mention it in Burgo's injury report yesterday considering they have it all over social media and their website today?

Some distance from the match in guessing.

People have watched the replays so not looking for how it happened.

The footy shows have done their reviews and not focused on his or his injury.

Only keen dee fans follow injury reports and it wouldn't register with other clubs fans a low profile player like avb got hurt.

Vanders is a dead set legend. Loved seeing him stick up for Weed after Stratton's deliberate elbow on his head. Somehow, the Weed got up after the hit, got the ball and set up a chain of play that resulted in a brilliant Pickett goal (2nd quarter about 4:20). Watch the attached footage - Weed only had eyes for the ball. Stratton only had eyes for his elbow on Weed's head. Surely Stratton should be reported for this. I would not want to be Stratton the next time Dorks play Dees...

Why on earth did they not confirm this in the injury update?

Burgess literally said “nothing to report out of the win against Hawthorn”

This is why they say lying is the second language of AFL!

Might have been because they didn't know if he'd miss any matches, so why broadcast a fractured cheek in case he was ok to play.

I would have thought that while they were assessing the injury and determining if he needed weeks off or could somehow get up to play, they are better telling nobody nothin'. Then they control the story and who knows what.

I would think they were somewhat disappointed there was a leak through to this website

Just read chookrats reply and I basically agree

AVB cannot seem to take a trick, but with so many games in such a short time , he would have missed a couple anyway. As will a third of the side.

But he was just running into a bit of form, after last few games , if you are open minded and not a hater you might see that. And we play so much better with his  hard at it attitude.

I hope someone can step up, not sure it will change Brisbane’s plans for the game. But I am not as confident now.

Two goals less. Will be a draw...

Then what's the point of Burgess doing a weekly injury report to the public when it's a personal matter??

You've contradicted yourself here Sat....

An aspect could be time to tell people who need to know ie family before publicising something that sounds as bad as fractured cheekbone.

He probably didn’t tell anybody he had a busted cheekbone with blood dripping down his throat till yesterday.

Agree with all the comments here saying how much psychological edge he brings to the team on game day.

He’s our modern day Rodney “Balls” Grinter, with a slightly better haircut.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
