Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Tomlinson is a seriously good KPD if given the opportunity. Will enable May to go forward and provide that "contest" the coaching staff are always after, in the air.

Also played a bit as a key forward with GWS with some success

If Tomlinson plays that lead up target I want to see him be aggressive in the contest

Not sure I see Jackson being that lead up target and I don't want Weed to be either

So Tomlinson playing Tmacs role and Weed deep?

Sounds good, but bizarre not to even have Brown in

I know it's not all about possessions but Lockhart must be doing some scintillating work off the ball that isn't evident on TV

I think he really goes in hard, chasing, throwing his body around etc.

He isn't playing a possession needing position, so it's very hard to judge on tv.

I'd like to see Jones in there somehow. Still think he has a bit to give.

I love Jones for what he has given over the past decade, but if he isn’t centre square material any more where does he play? He struggles to nail down another spot.

Hawks have named Ceglar in their starting 22 but "AFL.com.au understands Ceglar – who has led the ruck for the Hawks this season – broke his toe early in last week's loss to Collingwood and will miss at least one week"Ceglar's broken toe.

Clarkson playing mind games!  Either Ceglar's injury report was a furphy or a late change coming up!

We should thrash their team.  They are old or have players with recent injury issues.

They played short kick/mark, ring-a-ring-a-rosey in their back 50 last week like Cats vs us.  But unlike Geelong they didn't try to attack because they can't run/chase.  Too slow!

And do they have any recognised forwards other than Gunston?

Big question is will they come out all guns blazing after the blowtorch they received this week?

If we show last weeks composure and move the ball quickly we will win.  We have a much better team.

But they have a very very good tactical coach and that could make the difference on game day. The ground doesn’t suit their game style so it will be interesting to see how this match pans out.

Jones has played what 280 games I think he may have an idea how to play other positions. We need more on field leadership I hope he can provide some of that up forward.

Perfect Half forward or Pocket in his decline.

He has been a battering ram and a finisher for more than a decade.

We now need a sharp shooter.

I like the thought of playing Jackson as the deep forward. As we know he is tall and has a great leap. I feel he will be able to run and jump and cause a contest against frost, Frawley mcevoy etc. Then we can use our small forward line as it hits the ground. Also allows him to rotate into the ruck to give gawn a rest.

Weideman as the tall lead up forward will get him involved in the game and build confidence. Also he takes more marks when he is on the lead with space. I think that's more his game.

Could be the start of a great forward line partnership for years

Jackson, Smith or tomlinson in for TMAC

However my 4 interchange would be Fritch,Jackson,Tomlinson and Jones. That will not be the case though.

Just have this sneaky feeling Smith may be picked to play forward now.

It would be strange in so far as it would be reverting to the one big forward line surrounded by small and mediums again (even though Smith can play big, sort of with his leap). And that set up just wasn't working.

Yeah, I'm not keen on it. I thought Brown was almost a lock, but it's shaping up as a real Goody type selection with Smith should it happen.

Brown a lock? Really??

"Almost a lock" was what I said, and yes I thought Brown seemed the most sensible and obvious option. The most experienced and natural forward out of himself, Jackson and Smith, and has more onfield experience with Weid than the others as well.

I'm not a big fan, but I tend to try and think about selection from a realistic and practical point of view rather than just pure personal opinion.

If it's Jackson or Smith we're pretty inexperienced in the key forward positions.

Me too

Realistic and practical point of view leads directly to no Brown

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
